Seconded Plus is that a rep p.2002 movt? I spy some very distinctive bridge plates there. Wasn't aware that had been done.
-
Probably the most gorgeous vintage case/movt combo I've ever seen. The dial however is not to my taste.
-
Interesting. If you ever get divorced, you can frame the harpie at the scene of a bank job.....

A rose? Pffff, you big girl! p.s. is that one of Josh's 24mm 'fantasy 187 style' rubber straps?

How do you take a crystal out of a 1950 bezel
docblackrock replied to wan's topic in The Panerai Area
Did mine by hand I recall. Fairly easy as long as you're careful and are used to working with your hands and having a 'feel' for things. Pushed crystal 'outwards' using both thumbs at the periphery and covered with t-shirt/cloth. Apply pressure slowly but firmly and it should just pop out. Beofre reinstalling new crystal, check gasket is not out of place. Then just reverse procedure to install new one into the gasket/bezel assembly, keeping the crystal straight. With a sapphire crystal this delicate (shape, prone to shatter etc.) I preferred my 'feel' to that of a crystal press. -
Glad to be proven wrong Ken? Bidding was anonymised anyway, so you can't contact bidders directly. Seems to be getting more common as much to ward off second-chance scammers as anything else.

The Last Sub I will Ever Put On ~ Ubi Franken
docblackrock replied to lanikai's topic in The Rolex Area
*Homer Simpson moment* Mmmm, snowflake.... Congrats to both proud owner and generous maker - two top gents in my book. Lani, I agree it'll be hard to get this baby off your wrist for a good while. I'll therefore kindly offer my services to 'house' the rest of your collection in the meantime. No, honestly, no need to thank me -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=260410421159 Seller gives the usual excuses about authenticity - don't know where it's from, no B&P, gift from partner etc Right then, so that's why you post (tiny) gallery picture of a geniune reissue (note the Heuer only logo) followed by purposely blurry pics of your VERY nasty rep complete with TAG Heuer logo and nasty rep box C'mon, there's only a few hours of this left and the bidding (even if shill) is actually upto over

A masterpiece if ever I saw one. Congrats! p.s. I hope to be sporting a similar gorgeous strap soon, courtesy of our mutual friend M

refinished dials have come a looong way...the Double Red
docblackrock replied to BigCrown's topic in The Rolex Area
I'd be interested to know just how many "big bucks" your friend Oliver (interesting, there's two of those known to us vets) paid for it? Hopefully not more than a couple of hundred euros or so. Personally if I'm honest I'm sorry but I don't see anything that gets the pulse racing - better than the likes of say, NDT dials, but other than that, it doesn't quite do it for me. -
An offer from my wife.........Will you accept?
docblackrock replied to rckh's topic in General Discussion
Two ways of looking at it. Do you love your wife more than your reps? Assuming the answer is yes, then the fact she's willing to buy you a gen Daytona to help persuade you...well let's just say you'd be insane not to accept such an offer and quit the hobby. One the other hand, why is she so against something you so obviously enjoy? It's not the money obviously so what? The illegality? No lies going on is there, not like you have a mistress or two is it? The fact you're posting this makes me wonder. If you're happy with your wife, then no contest, accept the Daytona. If she's a shrew who makes your every waking hour a misery however, then just do what we'd all do....accept the Daytona anyway and continue rep collecting in secret -
You do realise this isn't exactly a "vintage" 5513 don't you? Dial indices and pearl (latter damaged so likely original to watch). Almost certainly a mid-to-late '80s 5513 - ask for the serial range to confirm. Not sure why he's selling a vintage '60s box with it though, apart from to give that veneer of "vintage" Personally I'd only ever buy a 5513 that was made between introduction in '62 and say '77 - the 'vintage' period for that particular vintage watch.

the quality of this aftermarket part?
docblackrock replied to highoeyazmuhudee's topic in The Rolex Area
Actually, it would be easier if one of the mods just enabled an auto-correction to this moniker every time his 'store' name or actual name is posted.... Whadda ya think Freddy? You with me? -
the quality of this aftermarket part?
docblackrock replied to highoeyazmuhudee's topic in The Rolex Area
I think we need to have an in-joke here - anytime some poor unsuspecting member asks about Mr Greaseball/Slimeball/Peddler of Overpriced Aftermarket Crap, there's just needs to be silence, an embargo until Freddy juices up sufficient foam at the corners of his mouth to give his opinion.....I know it's coming every time I scroll down -
Your use of English always makes me smile
-
Ok I'll let you off....DBR didn't see VDB's post, plus you didn't use the word "vitrine"
-
What's there to think about? The watch in the photos is 100% gen. complete with correct wooden box and paperwork. Happy sniping!

"Watchdog" is out, "The Zigmeister" is in...
docblackrock replied to RWG Technical's topic in General Discussion
So apart from myself and V, who else suggested you were going through (another) mid-life crisis then? -
Now I'm done being pedantic I have to say I actually prefer the ridiculously sized 60+mm gen Eggzy - something cartoonish and clown-like about it, makes you smile. The smaller DSN rep however just looks a bit stupid and pathetic.
-
To me it looks like a rep of the 63mm original but in the smaller 52mm homage size. Oh and the Mare Nostrum is a dog as well, woof woof!
-
Always interesting to see vintage projects, but honestly the Eggzy is fit for display only. Wearing it would invite only ridicule, that is, if it was actually wearable. Those crazy Egyptians.....
-
Well fair enough, but I'm still not getting it. Just looks like a dog's dinner crossed with a curly-ginger-haired stepchild to me. Won't win you any design points either. Aesthetically lame I'm afraid. A watch only its crazed mother could love. A highly polished turd. I'll stop now perhaps.... Good luck, I look forward (*cough*) to seeing the outcome in all its Riberyesque and Teveztastical glory
-
Well....hello!!! Never mind the Eggzy, seems to me someone ought to be getting on with a certain deux-zero-trois dial project eh?
-
Ok then I'll try, but please don't hate me for voicing my honest opinion... As a concept, you're dressing up a hard core 'dive' case with a downgraded (SD to Sub) dial, with movement functionality of a 'pilot' watch, to which the dial has been rather obviously colour-matched. Add to that you're using mostly modern components and then throwing that vintage 5517 hand (why the singular anyway?) into the mix. It's not a homage or a throwback, something you could explain with any degree of insight. It's really neither one thing or another, just an inbred bastard chimaera of a watch, the likes of which you'd only play around, bored one afternoon, using crappy Asian parts like the famous UbiMariner. As an execution, well it just shows the dodgy concept for what it is. Looks a real mess to be honest, nothing complementary going on (as opposed to me being less than complimentary ) and does not enhance any feature or present the collective parts in anything approaching a cohesive manner. A project like this should add up to greater than the sum of its constituent parts. This does the opposite. There, have I been cruel and nasty enough for you?
