Will The Real TWP Please Stand Up?
docblackrock replied to TWP's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Glad to hear this is looking postive for you TWP. Important to keep in mind that the autistic spectrum, like lots of disorders, both paediatric and adult, are syndromes - essentially a collection of symptoms, often characteristic but almost always never completely definitive. There is simply no pathology on which to conduct reliable diagnostic tests, which leaves just opinions, and like a*s*holes, every paed and developmental psychologist has one. Even where there is pathology present, it can't often be qualified, which is why Parkinson's is always diagnosed too late and even then misdiagnosis is rife. But to say it's down to "lazy doctors" as Pugs suggested is unfair and simplistic, as is the suggestion of clinicians being preoccupied with pigeon-holing Medical training in general relies upon the tenet of accurate diagnosis first and foremost. Bugger up the diagnosis, and the treatment will be at best ineffective, at worst, adversely affect manifest symptoms, which can further hamper diagnosis. It's hardwired, and more often than not for a very good reason. I'm not closing ranks here, indeed there are a lot of incompetent quacks out there, but don't tar everybody with the same brush when you have no understanding of the challenges clinicians face not just in terms of assessing symptoms, but in the inherent pressure from parents/patients demanding "answers". Moral? If there's no definitive test, then never accept one doctor's opinion. If number 2 doesn't agree with number 1, then go see a number 3 and 4 at least. -
It might have a Valj. 7750 in there but that ain't no standard ETA DW font - lacking in the serifs department
-
Actually that price is for an entire case, bezel assembly, caseback and crystal. Very reasonable IMO.

Not sure I buy the second variant of gen dial theory However it is feasible you could be looking at a very good franken, a gen movt in a old factory rep case - explains dial, pearl, decent AR etc. Alternatively, I'm still not 100% that isn't merely a good date overlay/new DW in there, alignment is a little iffy and the printing is not quite crisp/sharp/black enough IMO. CWe know Lello is working on this DW project, so very possible somebody else will have done this also? Another pic for comparison - same old gen dial
-
How does he workaround the subdial arrangement? You saying he will recreate the 12-to-3 transfer gearing? Really? Honestly I would be very surprised given his general (and logical) thoughts on these type of tinkered-with movts, although I admit I may not be up to speed on 7750 mods he has done recently.
-
An interesting development given the perceived value for money of the HBB. Why use the old 21.6k 7750 though? This version is what gave asian 7750s their bad reputation in the first place, which the newer 28.8k version has still not shaken off. So did they have a job lot lying around? Either way, it's still $300 for an even more unreliable movt The only way I'd overlook this, heart over mind, is if they actually made the most gorgeous HBB of all (and that's coming from someone who's not a fan of the HBB)....the Luna Rossa.

FWIW, authenticwatches despite their reputable status are not good value for money on certain items. $475 for a SM rubber strap? I have been quoted the equivalent of $180 by my AD

Elmo can you post some pics of the c.1570 and confirm what's wrong with it? Regardless, I would contact The Zigmeister for a fix quote, several members here have entrusted him with their gen vintage calibres

Gen and Rep Day Date Aquaracer

Was looking at the first pic only as apart from the colour, the ETA date font 7 is the clincher -
Just curious, did anybody go for the white dial version yet??? If so, please post some pics. Here I must admit an error, as the gen DOES exist in a white dial NOT silver as I previously stated. Tag Heuer changed it from the old 41mm Date Aquaracer, which was available in a silver dial, almost certainly due to legibility issues.

BT I'm sure it's the actual dial colour, same with the inner bezel ring - there's no crystal there after all -

One on the right, the slightly darker blue is the rep p.s. you know you stole my preferred avatar don't you? -

Thanks for the side-by-side From memory, I always suspected the blue dial would not be a 100% match to the gen, but I actually prefer the rep's slightly darker blue-grey hue. Having worn the gen last year, I went for the black dial (blue on it's way for my brother) - but regardless this watch is scarily close as your pics prove. I also recall the clasp engraving may be a little smaller/different on the rep vs. gen but only very slightly? And the caseback, again almost perfect - unfortunate you didn't take pics to compare though. But the only other thing I spot is the font on the inner bezel but again I prefer the crisper squared font of the rep - calendar wheel swapout and IMO the rep's the better watch! -
I trust b16a2 to have done his homework, although it would be useful to get them to provide the exact spec given their vague and spurious Rolex claim (coating perhaps but definitely not AR), and then share here for the likes of Chief to weigh in on.

Well well, I got lazy and skipped the payoff of this particular thread Ah well as suspected....
-
Wise words but even then, doing some homework on the paperwork/serial with Rolex will ensure you sleep easier at night.....there's lot's of Frankens out there

Hmmm, may be able to help although I too am in on k222's run PM me incl. some details of the firm

Ah so someone did actually buy the Watchboy's Diver Gimp! The first pic is good, like the way the background linen provides a nice dark contrasting texture. The second pic just looks like an airport's custom official's wet dream Oh and that gen Tag? Series 4000. Gent's size Quartz. I have the same one (my 18th birthday present) except I have the ivory dial. Love it to bits still, very understated.

Actually I was more impressed by Wilkins, a Nobel Laureate, and a legend - I remember even the stairwells of the lecture theatre were packed and rightly so. It was like breathing in history. Dawkins was more of a star performer granted, even back then, but really it's only in the last few years he's really taken off (and with it, yes his bank balance) and become renowned outside academia. A couple of years back, I actually met him one-on-one as part of a symposium on gene therapy in which he was providing a light-hearted evolutionary angle. Considering he was the star turn, he was still the same very down-to-earth guy, minimal ego.

I think two old lecturers of mine would happily disagree.... Richard Dawkins and Maurice Wilkins (latter another RIP)

Sorry hard to tell from pics but sounds good. That's what this hobby of ours is all about, a little tinkering here and there and the satisfaction that derives from that and of course the results. Just curious, what's the crystal like on these SM chronos - was looking at getting the retro Timeless Olympic version. I'd put it on rubber anyway so bracelet not an issue, but interested to know how the head is put together, case, dial etc. A proper review even?
