What tool to open a Breitling CA back?...
docblackrock replied to rower's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
JAXA hand wrench tool is your man, if the DIY method doesn't work. As an aside, do you feel like selling/trading that puppy yet? C'mon you've had it a month surely must be bored by now -
Genuine Vintage Tag Heuer w/ Leather Strap
docblackrock replied to UB7's topic in The Tag Heuer Area
Not my intention to argue otherwise especially with respect to your father but I've been collecting Heuers (pre-TAG to LVMH-era) for about 20 years and I'm afraid he may have had a fast one pulled on him on that cruise. It has a bad series 1000-esque bezel, but with a dial that suggest a possible TT S/EL but the dial has the wrong shaped indices and dodgy text ("QUARTZ"? ) and anyway the lugs are all wrong for that type of bracelet. No date is another giveaway. That and the quality is just all over the place. Sorry to break the news, no harm done at least and I bet it keeps on ticking -
Genuine Vintage Tag Heuer w/ Leather Strap
docblackrock replied to UB7's topic in The Tag Heuer Area
Actually now you mention it MVB, even that 'leather' has a touch of the distressed PVC about it BTW any news on those Tag hands I PM'd you about? -
Although you missed the "no soup for you"

I'll second that, I'd even go as far to suggest it is a vintage Omega bible - keep going back to it every few weeks or so.

Back OT then with some rambling and incoherent thoughts... I've done a few review type posts, mainly vintage Rollie projects, but recently having canvassed for a long time for the new Aquaracer, I was fortunate enough to be one of the first to receive it and so I posted a fairly detailed 'proper' review with pics. Must admit I was surprised by the number of views and replies (44 and over 1500 respectively, not that I'm boasting ). BT's own superior review of course took it to another level. Anyway, maybe it was because it was a new model, but whatever I didn't notice much apathy, just lots of "thanks nice review" and "made my mind up to buy now" type comments. To be honest, I wasn't expecting a frenzy of ego-stroking posts, that's not why I did it....but if reading my write-up someone decided to buy this watch and enjoy it then job done as far as I'm concerned. But of course the encouragement and appreciation helps if the opportunity to repeat comes up again. I also know there's some hidden talent out there, and would hope that some of these lurkers step up and share with the rest of us. I always keep an eye out for the excellent reviews from the usual suspects, but some fresh blood now and then would be very welcome. So don't be shy Maybe the old POM thread should be brought out of retirement as encouragement?

Review of Tag Heuer Aquaracer Day-Date Chronograph 7750
docblackrock replied to By-Tor's topic in By-Tor's Watch Reviews
Firstly welcome James and congrats on your new purchase Like all 7750-based chronos, the Chrono seconds hand is actually the big second hand that is stationary at 12. The normal time 'running' seconds hand is the subdial at 9, and it is this which exhibits the actual bph (or vph) of the movment, in this being 28,800, smooth as a [insert silk, snake, Guiness analogy of your choice] So your watch is perfectly normal, wear it well. p.s. word of caution, if you do use the chrono timer (although with these movements, best left alone IMO), make sure there is sufficient power reserve and if possible try to let it run beyond 15s when timing anything -
Two women friends had gone out for a Girls Night Out, and had been decidedly over-enthusiastic on the cocktails. Incredibly drunk and walking home they needed to pee. They were very near a graveyard and one of them suggested they do their business behind a headstone or something. The first woman had nothing to wipe with so she took off her panties, and used them and threw them away. Her friend however was wearing expensive underwear and didn't want to ruin hers, but was lucky enough to salvage a large ribbon from a wreath that was on a grave and proceeded to wipe herself with it. After finishing, they made their way home. The next day the first woman's husband phones the other husband... "These damn girls night out have got to stop. My wife came home last night without her panties." "That's nothing," said the other angrily. "Mine came back with a card stuck between the cheeks of her butt that said, 'From all of us at the Fire Station. We'll never forget you.'" Here all week

A final note if I may.... Giorgio, regardless of how it looked on your "side of the fence" (an interesting phrase by the way given your attitude) it was neither my intention or belief that certain features of this board should be a "perk", just that we ought to be careful given the rise in people drawing attention to this hobby of ours using video uploads. I said as much in my reply to Laz. How I read your comment was less "standing up for a stranger" as you oh so righteously claim, but more defensive and even a little paranoid about "VIP" membership, probably triggered by Admin's initial fundraising plea and Ryannon's "name and shame" thread. I notice you have during this thread, now chosen to support this board which I ackowledge although I also respect it was also your prerogative to choose not to do so in the past. For the record, I have no interest in being "a VIP", in fact if truth be told, if anyone is expecting so-called perks of the VIP forum etc. they will be sorely disappointed. I can't remember the last time I visited never mind posted there. It's fairly dead in there last time I looked. Check my profile, either GD, Repair or the brand forums mainly. If I sell, it never goes VIP first, not my style as I believe in this place as an all-encompassing community. So why anyone would think I give a rats ass about who "deserves" to use a bloody YouTube feature would be laughable, if I didn't resent the accusation of elitism so much. I like to think I contribute here in many ways, reviews, sharing info, helping new members etc. and if you and mkultra had checked that before jumping to conclusions and pointing the finger, I would have appreciated that. My sarcasm about "best sub" came from annoyance, given mkultra's similar sarcastic tone of communication. I was wrong to assume a 10-day old member was just looking for a new Sub and sharing his non-watch related videos with us all (although we do see these people all the time). But given his response, that was my assumption ok? It's not for you to judge who's right and wrong. My only regret is that I should not have stooped to the same level, but at least I won't make that mistake again. Honestly, the sooner Admin changes the name to 'Supporter' the better IMO, if this how some of you think. And as TT says, enough with this "us and them" mentality, time to get back OT Admin - all this grief thanks to your bloody Norwegian Blue parrot

Post #16 http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=47186 For the record, I'm not the one going round pulling up members to donate, far from it, but you obviously have some chip on your shoulder. Go buy your "best Sub" and move on

OK in one respect you're right, it was discussed in another post and in PMs, so I thought Admin had made that clear upfront in this post. But anyway my post wasn't aimed at you personally, just flagging up the issue, so I really don't know what your problem is? Great first impression you made there after, what 10 days as a member? Embedding YT clips IS a security issue which is why a lot of sites don't allow it. The VIP/Supporter thing is nothing to do with your assumptions of some pathetic schoolyard hierarchy, but everything to do with keeping this place safe. Ok?
-
Assuming you're being sarcastic here Laz Probably goes without saying Admin, but maybe worth spelling out for some new members who have paid up for VIP immediately, that it is NOT a good idea to upload rep watch stuff to YT to share with us here, so please don't!!!
-
Safari but no biggie.... Oh and I thought for security reasons, this was a VIP (sorry "Generous Benefactor") feature only? Not judging by the post above this one

I find this usually helps when trying to drop a hint

Button not working but manual input works! My first use, and most appropriate too
