Hell knows even the Slevin Aquatimer may be out sooner Aah the subtle nuances of marketing

Those do??? Sadly, it's not mine.....yet

1. Good luck finding a genuine ceramic bezel insert. Hen's tooth in a needle-filled haystack, to mix my metaphors 2. Even if you do, the 11670LN (ceramic GMTII in SS) uses a different size case to its predecessor, thicker and although not officially confirmed, having seen it in the flesh, slightly larger (check out those lugs). I doubt the bezel is the same diameter and like using the gen inserts on the GMT rep, it will also need some grinding down in thickness. Good luck with that on ceramic. 3. Notice some of the details may differ from the old 'fantasy' rep - namely the Triplock crown, black datefont (some reps had green), and Daytona bracelet. It's a pain I know, you're so close but yet so far. Maybe wait until the new version with rep insert is out, you may have better luck getting the insert alone?

Pulled but has been relisted with "better" pics. C'mon people you know what to do, three clicks is all it takes to stop some poor unsuspecting person being scammed. 110171932996

BT, when you say 'custom' what do you mean exactly? It looks identical to Josh's new "Retro" edition. http://www.pc-80108.com/rlgs10007-retro-ed...362-p-3425.html Better 24-hr hand (finally! would love to get hold of that) but dodgy bold datefont. Still a very nice piece.

I believe 'girth' is the correct term And just so we're clear, when I want an double entendre, I'll give you one...
-
Sorry are we talking about the original anatomical/computer parts analogy? Or confusing matters with your new (daily?) Mickey Mouse avatar? Aside from the obvious 'size matters' innuendo of course
-
You could almost draw a speech bubble for this from your 'comical' friendly avatar. It's uncanny!
-
What does that 'not' make your mouse then?

Firstly I don't see how I have insulted your family in any way? I recall on another thread that you made reference to you being a Forces 'brat' (meaning one who is dragged round ten different schools due their families nomadic postings), not easy at the time I'm sure but also in retrospect a interesting one. And yes I remain disappointed in your views in this thread which appear less than balanced or objective, considering your apparent intelligence. However, in the spirit of being decent, I am sorry if my reference however oblique, has hit a raw nerve. Naturally, I have absolutely no idea as to the relevance of "TODAY" or your "personal circumstances" which lead you to believe my comment is "disgusting beyond belief". That implies malicious intent which I refute. You have my condolences for those circumstances which lead you to think otherwise and 'demand' an apology - it is not appropriate to guess but I can imagine. :olivebranchextendedsmilie: regards DBR p.s. For the record, the minor GF comment was forgiven if not forgotten, as was the rather amusing if prejudiced North-South jibes. But to think I would fester on these comments is ridiculous. Oh and as for jealousy, I would be the worst type of hypocrite if I were to rail against a privileged and expensive education
-
How delightfully condescending of you to say so. In honour of that, I cannot resist one last response. To you, perhaps. Except to blow a hole in some of your biased comments and point out the repeated inaccuracies therein. But then I didn't expect you to acknowledge never mind accept that, not sure why, just an impression of the persona behind the moniker. For all your knowing observations about living in various countries, hitched up to the family wagon by all accounts, I am disappointed that such a privileged and likely expensive education seems largely lacking in application, beyond feeling unswervingly duty-bound to defend the apparent 'double standards' employed against your adopted country. At least I spend my time rationally defending my own profession against the pitch-fork brigade, whilst maintaining my belief that I am benefiting the greater good. Can you say the same? You should take a leaf out of Ry's measured and informative responses to this thread - after all I have no doubt he has far more reason and experience to debate these matters than you or I put together. And for the record, I have never said I am coldly uninvolved either to the original event in this thread or to others mentioned, even those alluded to you by yourself. Not for the first time, you assume an awful lot - just because I don't make reference to personal involvement doesn't mean I'm an apathetic shoulder-shrugging cold fish. I just prefer not to cloud my reasoning with emotion. Occupational hazard perhaps. I already said this in an earlier post, we have a responsibility to air such things if true, no matter how unpalatable the timing may be for some. As a historian (pro or am?), you'll also then appreciate that the US has somewhat of a history for failing to acknowledge past mistakes and events, from the civil rights movements in the 60s to the withdrawal from Kurdish Iraq in the First Gulf War as well as numerous friendly fire incidents in the Middle East. I cannot comment on France in this regard due to lack of insight but at least some of us hold our hands up (British Imperial Africa, the Cossack betrayal in WW2, apartheid South Africa) and admit "not our finest hour...". I just don't get that impression from the US. Carpet sweepers, up there with the best of them. It's almost a cultural thing, a default setting, the insurance companies' mantra "never admit blame!". I even see it clearly with otherwise-decent US colleagues of mine when it comes to 'issues management' and personal vs. collective responsibility - so quick they are to don their Teflon suits and go AWOL for the afternoon How noble of you. If you feel so strongly why not send a strongly-worded communication to that effect to the French TV channel? It is you who says we Brits like to do such things ("Yours, Miffed [formerly] of Wantage"). Make your opinion known where it matters most, if it grates so much. This is, after all, merely an off-topic section on a watch forum, hardly a worthy oulet for your indignant righteousness. Fine, whatever, as if we would dare stop you. Just remember sometimes less is more, as Samuel Johnson said "'Tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

Nope the white dial does indeed exist as a gen. Confusion stems from the previous model date-only 41mm 'Racer, which came in black, blue and silver dial versions. The silver dial was a poor seller probably due to bad legibility (see pic) so when they upgraded the model to the 45mm DayDate, they obviously changed that variant to a white dial. Your analogy about the South American programme is flawed as you watched/were subjected to it first hand (although I could point out you do have free will and presumably a remote control? ). In the same vein, Tintin in the Congo sold out last month here after complaints about its overt imperialistic racist tone, how do you explain that? Merely outrage? Until Ryannon brought it up, Im guessing Edd was blissfully unaware of the France 3 programme. Plus it's not his country, nor does he have any take on the political machinations going on there right now, disturbing though they may be. C'mon, here we all are arguing about perspectives and the festering accusations about each other's supposedly allied and friendly countries. Like attending a dinner party where the host suspects you are already 'acquainted' with his wife several times, behind the civility lies only resentment and anger. I tell you, those supporting/encouraging/responsible for this current source of attacks must be firing their AK47s off in delight at all this bitching going on. It's just more power to them. I'd be more outraged about THAT type of behaviour than some insidious but largely irrelevant media slants. Edd, 7/7 - tell me again how you differentiate and quantify that event NOT being "an attack on one of the world's greatest cities". And you talk about insults? VB (unfortunate initials given our other recent 'export' to the US ) - although I do not see why you felt it necessary to refer to it in this context (it's NOT terrorism of the same kind), how can you say we lack "school shootings experience"? My god how uninformed are you? Did you watch the US Open at Flushing Meadow? See a certain Andy Murray yet again fail to live up to his potential? Why not ask him for his opinion on your statement? (I can imagine you Googling it right now). Or are you going to team up with Edd and play the numbers game again. I really hope not. I don't mind rationale debate, but when someone tells me "I couldn't be more wrong" whilst spouting inaccuracies, that's the point where I bow out from continuing that dialogue before I say something I regret.
-
Which is the better version IYO? 207 or 201? I'm leaning towards the 207.
-
Against my better judgement (plus it's half time in Porto, Champions League).... Edd, what is your issue then? I can understand Ry as he's "behind enemy lines", an American living in France, but even he says there's more to it than that, even if he reserves the right not to divulge why. But I don't get your indignation as to why a programme shown on a French TV channel matters that much to YOU. You name several isolated incidents but the only one of which registered shock amongst the American nation as a whole was Oklahoma because of the symbolic nature of the target itself (the US Government) and the revelation that it was carried out by one of your own, maladjusted, neglected fellow Americans, with no real political or fanatical religious bent. I'm sorry but I don't agree that it isn't "inexperience". 9/11 was quite literally "too close to home" and the shock was amplified by the failures in security and the feeling of "how could it happen HERE?". Take a step back for a moment, and would you really deny that? What you don't seem to get it is in the UK, people of Pug's and my age (he has a few years on me ) literally grew up with the CONSTANT threat of terrorism, a concerted campaign dating back 30 years. Pug's list omits about 30 or 40 separate bombings almost all fatal and against civilian targets, far too many to list separately. Even a member of the Royal Family was assassinated. So you'll excuse us if it seems we're suffering from 'empathy fatigue' - it's not intentional nor is it malicious.
-
It clearly still is. I understand and sympathise but I cannot bring myself to agree that your perspective takes precedence. I'm with Pug on this one. Disappointed but not surprised given your choice of domicile, which you seem to have embraced with open arms, lips, and it seems, even a bit of tongue And therein lies the problem, zero-tolerance for anyone that dares raise an unpopular opinion or one that goes against the grain. Allis did not say this on-air it was a private meeting. He lost his temper due to some severe provocation namely disrespect and belittling of the traditions and executive power of the R&A. Sound familiar? I don't believe it was the most diplomatic thing to say even pre-9/11, but 'gratuitously insulting'? No, because unlike your hypothetical rejoinder on being always "helped out" by the US, it is based on fact. Don't forget in context the majority of Alliss' generation still firmly attest that had the US got involved in WW2 prior to being given no choice in 1941, things in Europe may have been different. Again, not my generation not my beliefs, but a common attitude which is perhaps unpalatable but certainly not insulting. I'm not quite sure exactly what you're referring to when you cry "j'accuse! in terms of bigotry, but that's a poor choice of phrase. You can't really be serious to suggest there was an element of schadenfraude about 9/11? We all watched in shock, horror and utmost sympathy. That's not to say a shrug of resignation of "welcome to the rest of the world" is bigoted or dispicable, merely a natural reaction of inevitability amongst those uninvolved who have experienced similar if not worse atrocities. Same comments were levelled at Sweden (even by the Swedes themselves) when Palme was assassinated walking home alone from the cinema. Of course, what did you expect? We are allies. We also shared some of the loss don't forget. And I assume you mean the speech QEII gave as opposed to wrote? I don't recall it. But then we do like our public outpourings of grief don't we - after all the BBC felt it "appropriate" to repeat the entire 6 hour funeral procession of Diana this summer to commemorate the 10 year anniversary. Hmmm. And THAT ladies and gentleman, is the belief/attitude that all this resentment stems from in a nutshell. Do we Brits really give a stuff about our long-forgotten Great Empire that we feel hurt that our one-time colony is now a superpower and treats us with the affection yet occasional disdain of a pet spaniel? No, I think it's more irritation at being needlessly and constantly reminded of 'our place'. Did you ever work for a boss who constantly reminds you he earns more money than you? No doubt he was given an appropriately anatomical nickname. Now I don't claim to have any knowledge or interest in the history of US presidents (see? I'm as indifferent as you claim otherwise), but the only post-Watergate legal challenge I can recall was Clinton's cigar games and dodgy property scam. Even with Nixon (before my time), outrage at personal corruption and sexual proclivities are not the same things as say, challenging the foreign policy of an entire government. And now I really WILL have to stop reading. Your take on history is grossly inaccurate. Neville Chamberlain ring any bells? Like Ry, I think the time has come for me to depart this thread, as I will only get more annoyed and frustrated. OT is such an effing drain sometimes, time to go back to talking to Ape about the design of his house, much more soothing for the soul DBR

Know Carl by (excellent) reputation only, and as a fellow countryman feel it would be rude not to finally pick one of these up from him Thanks for the nudge guys. p.s. love the "Real Astronauts Wear Rolex" label - funny because it's true
-
I believe that's a reference to the nickname of the iPhone aka 'Jesus phone' in view of the incredible anticipation and expectation experienced, almost cult-like. In the Aquatimer's case, I personally think it's more relevant in terms of "Jesus, how much LONGER do we suckers have to wait???"
-
I wish it were true but that pic above shows no clone. To compare: It's strange because twice Connie made a point of stressing movt was 3135 to me, don't know why? Also, price I was quoted was $2000 not $2500. Maybe she/watchmaker picked up a handful/small lot of beaten up DJs? Those rotors show signs of 'character' after all So $500-700 a piece, salvage the movt, clean and service, drop in rep case, and voila, very tasty profit!

Arrived yet? If so, care to share some pics?

Now THIS is an impulse I'd find hard to resist, like a big red button that says' 'DO NOT PRESS!' Must admit if I had the spare cash just burning a hole in my pocket right now (as opposed to being earmarked for other projects), I'd be tempted to go for the blue 42mm version possibly the chrono if exists in the smaller size, on rubber strap. Have a rare AD near me, and the design intrigues me even if it's got the look of a bedside alarm clock strapped to a belt But that's a reason not to buy gen, as I think this is one design (the Instrument series not B&R per se) that won't stand the test of time.

Well well, what is French for "how the worm turns"? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6998602.stm

Unless of course you use the 24 hr hand as your local time maybe?

Jesus, you guys STILL waiting???? Talk about self-flagellation. Glaciers have moved faster, no scratch that....asthmatic snails have moved faster! I really hope for your collective sanities' sake, it's worth it. Sometimes the anticipatory thrill of the chase is more exciting than the capture

So best give the hydrofluoric acid a miss then? Take the above advice, you're really best of leaving well enough alone. That is the unspoken art of modding IMO.If you're dial doesn't have what you want, get one that does. Tinkering with one is a recipe for disaster.
