what's happening with the new models?
docblackrock replied to yellomen's topic in General Discussion
Skyland - no info??? Not what Angus told me a few weeks back Wheels in motion, it's now in pre-production, on the factory's 'to do' list - both the standard and the PVD 'black steel' version. -
My UPO crystal is on it's way home!!!

Back OT then I'd also like to know, never mind all that 'best' dealer stuff, Eddie was merely my 'favourite'. Whether he's gone back to collecting (as opposed to being a 'collector' ), I wish him well, and would hope to see him pop his face round the door from time to time, if only to make some amusing comment.

Fake Sm300 Spotted In Antiquorum Omegamania Auction Catalog!
docblackrock replied to Danae.'s topic in Rep vs. Genuine
Thanks for that, to be honest, there were rumblings at the last sale in Geneva last May, about the presence of at least one suspect lot. It's not that uncommon suprisingly, but the lots are usually pulled at the last minute. But this one went all the way - jeez, 20,000 euros for a fake! What shocks me is not that AQ as an auction house verified this lot as genuine (auctioneer "experts" are anything but), but that the Omega archive did in the face of such overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I smell legal involvement here and a swift brush under the carpet - admit nothing and IF the buyer complains, offer a refund and all will be settled nice and quietly in-house. Those responsible will be dealt with, quietly, at another time. Reputations are everything, and to admit such a massive mistake would be a problem. Honesty doesn't pay it seems. -
Why can't all nations adapt to the metric system?
docblackrock replied to fitmic's topic in The looney bin
Ach I knew that, not quick enough though. From the Romans actually, was taught all about it in school (grew up by a Roman city). Similar reason why most castle/forts from Iron Age onwards have spiral staircases which ascend clockwise - exposes the body of the RH pursuer ascending up and forwards with his sword, whilst the central pillar protected the RH defender looking down. But that's an entirely different thread -

Drat, I've been rumbled (*hmmm, do I admit to a bit of gamesmanship here, preparing a convenient excuse, or use the old R&A rules thingie, which says only yardage is official?*) -

Ha! Says the Swede 1967 ring any bells? Think you'll stick with it this time? -
Somewhat old (July) but still one of the few bright moments in an otherwise wet and depressing British summer. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/north_east/6907994.stm

BE WARNED!!! Gen dial has a different shaped date window - you will need a new datewheel.

I'd be interested in taking at least 1 if not 2 - put me down. Great work Leo, and Tonton too

Jaw-dropping piece illustrated with stunning photos as usual. This one has been calling me for a while now, that damn bloody pearl though surely must be able to unscrew marker and find a replacement? Also, can anyone confirm if the brushed SS Pro bracelet (from the Steelfish) will fit the Blackbird?

Beg to differ, he is VERY different to Stewart. His individualistic streak is IMO inherent and genuine rather than contrived. It's a fine line, just look at the most obvious heir to Stewart's legacy, our very own Ian Poulter Garish, tasteless, and disrespectful or funky, refreshing, modern? Whatever your view, what's worse is that unlike major-winner and Ryder Cup stalwart Stewart, Poulter is rapidly becoming the Anna Kournikova of golf. All show very little substance. . Actually if you're interested, there's a very good article in same issue about golf's worst fashion crimes - even poor old Sergio Garcia gets a beating for his pastel 'suits' - the lemon curd one featured I witnessed in person at the Open in Hoylake last year (my 'home' course ) - and yes, it was truly horrific. Actually Lindeberg approached Parnevik to be his 'muse', not the other way round Why not judge for yourself, as I think he lives in your neck of the woods no? Florida, famously the home of pro golfers, tennis players and the elderly Ah well, I suppose if you can't beat 'em, eh? (*mental note....hmmm, sunny weather, communal pool with agency models lounging round all day, VB's PAM collection, ) *starts to type in "www.ba.com/flights/miami interna.....*

It is amazing how JP has gone from 'clown' with his 'zany' knitwear and stupid turned-up cap, to the man always voted the most stylish golfer of all time. Answer is of course, his 'partnership' with Johan Lindeberg. Whilst you've got to admit the style is not one every man can carry off (especially if you're not whippet-thin), there is something very cool and confident about that Rat Pack-era monochrome look, a nod back to the greats of the time, the Palmers, the Players (although Jack does not quite fit style-wise for some reason). The confidence rubs off apparently on the course. (OMG , just realized I'm have a discussion about fashion with VB - how metrosexual of me ) Anyway, you can't compare any of that to Stewarts 'buffoon' outfits. Without wishing to speak ill of the dead, the man did it for effect. JP on the other hand is naturally 'eccentric'. His choice of vintage Rollie speaks volumes. It was made for someone like that.

Ah, finally, Bob's graph paper pics, just what I was thinking about . Sorry to pee on your chips here Rosnik, but IMO that ain't no superdome. Assuming it's been fitted correctly, from the side profile shot, it looks like it sits too high above the bezel - much more like a flattie. Also the curvature does not have quite enough 'domeness', more partly elliptical than spherical, hard to explain. Of course, one thing which would help is if you could tell us what it came in? The superdomes come in an individual white opaque wax baggie with green Rolex logo. The flatties come in transparent plastic baggies with red logo. The rep generic superdomes typically come loose as they've been removed from their suspect fat rolls of 20+. They may get the distortion right, that's easy enough given trial and error and a knowledge of optics, but the physical appearance is different........considering all the evidence, I'm guessing that's actually what you have there, a rep superdome. And since I paid less than

Thinking of getting rubber strap for Aquaracer
docblackrock replied to World Traveller's topic in The Tag Heuer Area
Guys, swapping bracelet for strap? It's just a simple spring bar off-and-on, 30 second job. But yes resizing it is not for the faint-hearted or inexperienced. My advice? Pay a watchsmith. My own did a very clean job although it took a little while. At least you know, it's going to hold up, the bracelet quality is THAT good, on a par with gen IMO. Surely you blue diallers have seen dealer pics with rubber strap? If I were you i'd stick with the bracelet - personally, I think only one dial suits the rubber strap -

Gorgeous gorgeous piece, most people would be tempted to say 'enough', but I understand the desire to improve. An excellent 'base camp' then on the way to the Everest summit I'm about to start a similar journey, these photos just give me the extra nudge -
on both counts

Only the reputable dealers VB - always ask for antihistamines, some 'one-stop' anti-allergy products contain the decongestant pseudoephedrine, which is a constituent of crystal meth. That's why you got carded. Big big problem in the US. Never really taken off here, for some reason - thankfully. Different countries, different OTC restrictions - look at Vicodin, banned in the EU without Rx. And rightfully so. In fact, try buying anything containing the smallest dose of codeine OTC in parts of Europe. You can't. It's a mild opiate, metabolized into morphine in the body. In the UK, however, limited dosage codeine is still OTC even if these days more BTC (behind the counter). No ID required. If you're lucky some 18-year old assistant will pause from chewing her gum and reading Grazia, to remember her 'training' and ask "you 'ad this before like innit?". A nod, and the transaction is done.

That seller is NOTORIOUSLY expensive Ask at your local AD, you may be surprised. But IMO the rep is just as good. My spare rubber strap for my black Aquaracer is on its way back to me after a delay, but from photos (close-up photos), it's pretty much indistinguishable from gen. Anyway, gen Tag rubber straps generally do not have the silky smooth finish and soft feel that say, Omega straps do, which is why I bought gen for my UPO. Here's a pic of the 'Racer on rubber -
Celebs wearing Panerai? Pffff.... THIS is the ultimate watch-on-celeb shot IMO, a perfect match of quirky yet classic style..... Featured in this month's edition of (the great) Golf Punk magazine - very cool watch on a very cool bloke. Enjoy

Just because a patient says it has 'spread' over a course of time, does not necessarily mean it has After all, the chin rash (she admits touching it, clearly contact transmission) was probably just noticed later when she looked in a mirror (and screamed in horror). I must admit though that such non-localised urticaria (extending up to the upper arms) is a little unusual, but not uncommon. Exanthema is jumping the gun a little considering she has no other systemic symptoms. A friend of mine is a Harley St dermatologist (the 'easy route' specialty to make consultant/attending), and she tells me she remains constantly surprised by variations in individual response to immune challenges. VB already admitted she had childhood allergies anyway, so is more predisposed to turning into a blotchy seething mass of pustulous red welts anyway (don't feel too self-concious now Miss B ) VB - If the antihistamines and steroid cream have done their job within 24-36 hours or so, then fine. Neither of those will likely mask any other symptoms in such a small dose. If rash persists or worsens after then or you develop ANY other symptoms, then by all means get checked out asap (hospital not GP - full bloods etc.). As I said earlier, chemicals and skin just do not mix well sometimes, just because you've not had a problem with Cape Cod on naked hands before means nothing in itself - always possible you have developed an allergic hypersensitization to the product. Oh and the goggle warning using diamond paste? I'm fairly sure that's a physical barrier precaution due to its abrasive properties (i.e. ) In the meantime, if you do venture out, keep all body parts covered from the sun, daub your front door with black paint before you go, and don't forget to wear a bell around your neck cableguy - "DON'T PANIC!!!!" - that's a good one
