  1. Assume we're talking c.1570 wheel here not some mythical overlay? Actually I picked up a silver flat 3 DW for a steal last year, think I paid 30
  2. Keeps good time, chronos fine, all's well, except.... PR is only approx. 3 hours. even after being worn all day. Taken off the wrist before retiring for the night, in the morning I find the watch has run for a little while before falling asleep at 3-4am Likely issues suggestion and possible fix advice welcome.
  3. I think we're all agreed the MBK/MBW version is not a 100% accurate repro of an existing model....the seconds hand, the caseback etc. Not sure about the dial details you are referring to, but I'm sure one of the Nauty owners (Ubi perhaps) will step up and debate this with you. Whatever, by all accounts the MBK Nautilus is a VERY fine watch in terms of build quality.
  4. Still requires *major* machining work though, the 1675 is the only one that doesn't require the CGs removing (does that amount to castration? ), but all of those still need major profile work from Paul's Red Sub case....Saabin is a modder par excellence, as those of us who remember his 1665 know all too well.
  5. Wow, the advantages of having your own autoparts works/machining business I mean, that case is just jaw dropping, truly amazing work, almost makes me sick with envy looking at it Like Klingsor, I have also been working on my own little 6542 project (been dormant for a while - nowhere near yours yet) using an old Bond Sub case with coin edge bezel as a starting point, but having difficulty finding someone to adapt the case like yours All other bits accounted for, crown/tube, crystal, DW (needs ageing a little), movt etc. Have the MY bakelite insert and also a 'special' dial on the way... Some early pics...comments/advice on how to mod the case, most welcome
  6. BTW southcoast68, you do realise that Rolex in their infinite wisdom (read "blatant move to alienate their core sports model customers, raising two fingers in the face of their own heritage and the collector's market, the very presence of which is responsible for Rolex's continued success and.....blah blah blah")...sorry where was I? ....you do realise that Rolex Service Centres have now ceased servicing and repairing all c.15XX calibres??? Yes that's right, they won't touch your pointy GMT with a 10' bargepole However, the upside being you can now send it to The Zigmeister, which is ultimately an all-round more satisfactory experience for you and your watch anyway.
  7. Guess once again we assume that anything Rolex did in the 60s and 70s was any way planned or according to strict procedure "...hey Siegfried, I neet unt dial for zis GMT....vhat do you av in your drawer?....(*sounds of rummaging about, bits being discarded*)....oh ok, zat looks like it vill fit, who care novone vill know anyhows...danke mein heren." *apologies to any Swiss German here for that atrocious stereotypical accent, feel free to post a pic of top-hatted gent drinking tea, or a leprechaun with a pig uder his arm as payback *
  8. Hmm, interesting theory Bob, identical to the one I put forward for Pitmany's GMT dial HERE Only possible fly in ointment is that one of the transtional features of the 16750 was the switch from a matt to gloss dial. But then, who's not to say you have a prototype 16750 dial?
  9. Not my cup o' tea but here's what you can expect....
  10. Get in line, pal.... Chronus, this is getting a little weird....do you think I'm actually being 'haunted' by this watch???
  11. My mistake, got confused with that messed up dial Hmm, I wonder if Cousins will supply the crystal at an equivalent price as I resent paying import tax on something like this - coughing up
  12. Yikes, for a second I thought that last pic was your finished product congrats though on putting that donor watch out of its misery, eeuw Not quite sure what GMT model you're trying to recreate here -1675? - but your case is way off. Since it has spring bezel and the usual half-hearted lugholes I'm assuming it's a TW 16710 right? Whatever, those modern cases are positively obese compared with their predecessors. Early GMTs had a case profile more akin to a bulimic supermodel, which like most women's waistlines, got gradually thicker with age. The case is always the fly in the ointment with franken GMTs. Does your T116 even fit on that modern sapphire assembly? I doubt it.... As for the dial - 'fraid that is a sorry sight, I hope you didn't pay too much - looks like a late '80s 1675 although it's in ratty condition and looks like it has a gloss finish in one of the pics, strange, as only matte dials were used from '68 to 'late 80s by which time the 1675 had given way to the transitional 16750. Aha!!! That's it.... in fact, I think your dial may well be a 16750 but with the white gold indices removed. Would explain the lume appearance, gloss lacquer and those nasty feet marks where the indices were. Sorry if I seem like I'm pulling your project to pieces, not my intention at all. Just strange that you admit to not being an expert yet proceed with a project like this full steam ahead buying gen parts without much apparent sense of direction. I'm sure you know the usual members here such as Nanuq, Euno and Ubi who know vintage GMTs inside out, and By-Tor who can advise re. GMTIIs - together with myself, all would be happy to help I'm sure, you just have to ask If I were you I'd try to put together a nice 16710 using the gen insert, much easier route given your parts than a decent 1675, which would require case, another dial, hard-to-find correct-GMT hand and a Watchmeister overlay. Good luck whatever you decide.
  13. Hmmm, Ms Doc will tell you I don't respond well to being nagged! Actually I'm away from home right now, will try to get round to it next week ok. Patience.
  14. ...complete with the required bottle of scotch, valium caps and a brown paper bag in which to hyperventilate into, at each stage in the process
  15. That's a security symbol Omega uses on the casebacks of some of the newer SM models, in particular limited editions like the Casino Royale PO. Lookie here...gen version. Unfortunately for you it has been repped, on the aforementioned model for one, but maybe elsewhere also, so I wouldn't take its presence as confirmation of authenticity. Aside, why would you buy used gen Omega from ebay let alone ebay seller in foreign country (Japan in this case)? If you don't know exactly what you're looking at and are unsure of certain details, then you really would be well advised not to purchase in this way. Instead, go to a local or regional AD or reputable jewellers who carry pre-owned....your service issues will be taken care of, and most importantly you can sleep at night without giving yourself an ulcer wondering what strange marks on a caseback mean and if you are going to get ripped off or not.
  16. Good grief, it's not possible...even uglier than the gen!!! God knows why they bothered (that goes for Rolex AND rep makers), waste of time especially when most of us are waiting for a ceramic-insert 116710.
  17. No, a bummer is when you get stung for duty on a watch strap from a US supplier that was $3 over the $35 import limit....and end up having to pay 60% on top to HMRC and Royal Mail Never again do I buy from US. Anyone else have the feeling someone "up there" is trying to tell us something? Maybe PO project is cursed?
  18. Quite right! I've been preaching this for ages....how some watches look great in pics but are a big disappointment on the wrist......and how the Aquaracer is the polar opposite of this rule.
  19. Quartz? You are joking right? If you have other 'issues' with the movt (such as?) then the best way to solve them is a Valjoux 7750.....a much better investment than a cheaper quartz rep. If you want a quartz, you may as well buy a gen Aquaracer quartz.....plenty to be had at barely more than super-rep prices.
  20. What happened to the rest then? Garage sale? Nice to see Anonimo at last, hope there's more to come
  21. Very quick update before I disappear off for the weekend... Just to clear up the datewheel alignment issue, as I said before my pics show the watch as received, the gen day/date wheels shown have not been installed yet. Confusion stems from my saying the alignment is quite bad....yet ironically when I took the pics on Tue 7 the wheels lined up quite well. That's not the norm, as today's date will attest, as crooked as....no, I'm not going to go there Alignment aside, the font difference is quite apparent, another reason to swapout DDWs FYI, like most daydate movts.....date snaps over right on midnight but daywheel doesn't kick in till 1.30am.
