I'll find the ad. Crystal was pretty damaged and seller estimated 2-4 hundred to be fixed by OEM. However, as some have speculated, they may not touch a modified watch.....
I'll see if I can dig up the ad again.
I appreciate the inputs. Very valuable insights. For me, I want a watch that not only has some "original" feel, but as most of us, I will get bored eventually, and trying to sell it will be difficult... It was the best price I had seen though....
Thanks again!
You could ask if anyone has one to donate to you and one of us, potentially me would say yes. Welding is probably not a good option. Your strap might be too thick...
Been communicating with a seller about a Pam 000. He's had it bead blasted. First, it does not seem that the 000 get much love and second, it would seem that the bead blasting would lower the value. What are your thoughts? I am currently Pam-less and need to buy another before the money burns a hole in my pocket and dissappears....
Your thoughts please.
Thanks in advance.
So, do I need to get a specific version of the watch before I start the transplant? I do not know what version I have and whether or not the hands will need to be staked, or broached or...
Experts chime in please....
Will do. Need to know if I need a different version of the rep first. Not sure which version I bought here. I see a few frankens but most are just a dial change. I need hands and dial at a minimum since I have a spare movement....
Anyone have parts?
Agree completely, but I love chrono divers. Even if I buy, it will be a chrono. I wont be diving, just swimming....But you are correct....If I can find a diver WITHOUT the helium relief, it would be easier, but I dont think they are large enough and I love the S/A.
Cool R. Thanks for replying. I was just thinking about a nice brush finish to make it different. I'll keep you in the loop on my quest for the perfect diver....
If you run across anything interesting, ping me as always....
BTW, I'll shoot pics for our other convo.
I have a S/A and am considering a dive watch. I've looked at Oris, Breitlings and some other mid level brands but I keep coming to the point that I need a franken Breitling or a Gen for a tool watch.
My choice is to build the S/A into a super Franken, with Gen Dial, Swiss movement and then go through the effort of water proofing. I love the size of larger divers and really like the S/A.
What is your opinion? Build the franken or buy a gen?
Thanks in advance!
BTW, I have donor watches with Swiss 7750's and like the cheaper small wings white dials off ebay for gen dials......
Completely agree. Most shy away because they do not know the model or do not want to tackle the issues that come up. However, this particular part of the mod is NOT hard....
According to the valjoux guide, its seems that a ETA datewheel fits the 7750 and 7753. I have 7753 including a famous maker's on this site.... date wheels if you ever get to that point. 7750 wheels are available many places....
I would say its simply drilling the ring in the area required for the date pusher. Both my 7753 powered pieces had this done and a brass pusher was installed in the ring to enable the function. I would say based on my pieces, this is NOT hard to do with a proper drill bit and support for the ring while drilling. You DO want it to be straight though for ease of movement. Drill press would be best....
