  1. Go for the Oris.
  2. Sorry it's late, but here are my promised pictures.
  3. A while back, I promised to post some pictures of my new Connolly leather strap, as found on a Ferrari seat. The strap was hand-made by our resident expert, V. It's a thick yet supple strap, very comfortable and wearable. But who am I kidding, nobody wants to read my words, you want to see my pictures. These were taken in the kitchen just before I made myself a cup of tea. No studio lighting, just a window. The watch is a cheap PAM111h from Silix Prime. Yes, it's got 'light AR' which some people take to mean 'no AR' but you can see clearly that this watch does have an AR crystal. Nice strap, eh readers?
  4. Not without defending himself. Calls for banning are too common and in most cases not warranted, but this ultimatum would warrant it if it were deemed a contrived scam.
  5. In the morning, when you put a watch on, it's cold and you've been lying down for 8 hours or so. A watch will be loose at this point. At the end of the day, that same watch will have warmed up and your arms will be slightly wider. On some watches, this doesn't change much, but on others, say an Omega Seamaster, this can make a difference between a wearable watch and tradebait. Most of my watches end up on leather straps for this reason. Watches that don't have this problem are my Planet Ocean and Subs/SD. Oh, and Breitlings have fine-tuners in the clasps so they can be set right.
  6. Um, that's a bit harsh. Let's say he's right, and you did get in over your head, a full refund should have been the best he could expect. You did this so his response should have been an agreement to part ways. This 48 hours ultimatum is taking the p1ss.
  7. This must be a new definition of the word "Easily" that I've not come across before.
  8. Today, I am wearing my Panerai 111h on the famous Ferrari strap hand-made by V.
  9. My MWB 1665: Please show pictures.
  10. Wow, way to revive a seven-month old thread. Yes, all the accusations made in the first post have been proven time and time again to be true. It's not biased garbage, unfortunately. The fact that this is the longest thread in General Discussion, and possibly the most read thread on the forum, stands as a testament to its validity. Read the thread safe in the knowledge that truths do get outed, it's not all biased garbage and changes do happen because of it. Its some read.
  11. Here? As long as you like as long as no-one complains about their length.
  12. After the resounding apathy we had as a result of the mind-bendingly long white lies thread, I doubt anything will come of it.
  13. Nah, I bought it. It's the watch that spawned Josh'd "Dun be a pug" comment, so I had to buy it from the first non-cartel dealer to get it.
  14. I don't remember the price. Ask Precious Time. ps. Look to the left of this post. You'll see a "From" field. Fill yours in, it helps a lot when answering questions.
  15. I found this photo from my Mahjongg shoot and realised with a bit of work it'd make a nice widescreen wallpaper, so here's a 1920x1200 shot. Comments, as always, appreciated: click for a 1920px wide version
  16. Edge is absent for personal reasons.
  17. $220 over the counter in Thailand. All that has changed between 2004 and 2007 is the dollar has tanked.
  18. They are known to the stall in the MBK Centre as "Vintage Rolex" or similar. The name of the stall itself is known to members here, but it's preferred nomenclature is "The stall across from the KFC".
  19. He who spells the worst.
  20. Precious Time, Swiss.
  21. No debate. The Daytona is the only option.
  22. Isn't 913 aka Flavor-Flav here? Modded watches seem to be demanding high prices today, but that seems to be a recent concerted effort from a group of modders. I don't know if they're selling at those prices, however. I've noticed that some of this is due to the fact that the main two dealers no longer quote with postage/packing, meaning their prices are lower than what you'd actually have to pay. Even then, some prices are still a little silly. Still, some watches are now worth more than their original price. While this is not the norm, it's not surprising in as volatile a hobby as this. I usually aim watches at 25% off their retail and if there's no interest, I'll entertain offers. No-one should be expecting to be profiteering off second-hand watches, but there are a lot of gullible noobs out there we're supposed to be protecting that simply don't know the value of a replica. Imagine coming from Bluefakes to this site and seeing a private sale for a newish Sub for $400. Sure it's a rip-off by our terms, but they're going to see a half-price replica. The worst is, they'll be happy with that price if they don't stick around and read.
  23. Maybe I should Tolkienify it. Mariethiel, of the dark forest of Germanthia, Forged thus a watch so mighty he could rule all the other watches. Georgeo, wielding Geneva's Bane, lusted for the power that only the mythical title Ahaem-Bae-Daenebulael could bring. (Interlude for a song about beer) Young Neil Stoutfoot from near Lanarkshire, a proud people with strange accents, set out on the quest to rid the world of nasty prices and to bury the myth of Ahaem-Bae-Daenebulael in Pattayanatha, by way of Uae-Eillem-Essesse. (diatribe on the language of Pattayanatha) etc.
  24. Oh, and I'm sure you'll have seen these pictures before, but even a new Seiko may not be as waterproof as advertised. Make sure you get a warranty if you want a tool watch.
