  1. More of the same, I'm afraid.
  2. So, the consensus is that I should get one? http://stores.ebay.com/Clark-Watch-Parts only seems to have the superdome and not the flat T-39 for the great white. Maybe I should go for a Superdome and pretend my single-red dial was swapped out for a white dial during a service, like another user suggested. Ideas?
  3. "On the ball" pre-dates wristwatches as a phrase. What you heard is called advertising.
  4. TTK is more like those old hardware stores than a supermarket. One guy behind the counter, knows exactly what he has. Everything he has is on here.
  5. Thanks Bill. I can afford $60. I may well join you in getting one.
  6. Does he do the flat ones for great whites?
  7. Let's do her a favour and remember the good.
  8. Oh yeah, the mods ... I got an aftermarket insert with a genuine pearl from Sherrington. It'll be going in the 1665 over the weekend, probably. I want to keep it standard for at least a couple of days.
  9. To be honest, once you take the time and delivery into account, you don't save that much, especially if you factor in the risk and the falling dollar. If you imagine an MBW from George was $450 when the dollar and the euro were around 1:1, you can undercut George by a fair margin. However, now the dollar sucks cheese, you're not able to save that much. I was considering selling the Sub at immense profit to fund the parts for the 1665, but when you do the maths, the profits aren't that great, especially when most of the people that would be interested are in the US where the dollar sucks right now. Sure, I saved some cash, and I'd do it again, but it's not the huge savings you'd all expect.
  10. My brother lives in Bangkok. The stall that sells these doesn't deliver or accept returns, so I don't see how anyone but TTK or someone with contacts in BKK, like George, can get them.
  11. Yes, they are. In case my lack of using the letters MBW distracted people, these are the same as MBWs and WMs. I'm referring to them as Bangkok Best as I don't want to imply that I bought them off either Maria, George or Neil (TTK being the only source on this forum for these). Mmm ... takes genuine parts ...
  12. wtf! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6344725.stm "She was found unconscious in a hotel room and could not be resuscitated. No cause of death has been announced." Damn.
  13. I have no idea. I very specifically wanted these two so I sent my brother, who lives in Bangkok, to the stall with pictures and descriptions. Apparently, they completely denied the existence of white-text dials first time he went, offering a single-red as what they thought I meant. Needless to say, my brother isn't that daft and understands Thai shopping. He returned later and they indeed had these two MBW/WM/WBM quality Bangkok Best watches. I'm very happy by the way.
  14. Yeah, you know by now. It's this one:
  15. Can I change my wristcheck shot for today? It seems like lots of people are sporting MBWs today, so it's only fair that I parade my own Bangkok Best. I think I'll wear ... ...the one on the right.
  16. Two new watches arrived today. 18 photos follow. They arrived in this bag, from Thailand. If you're trying to guess what they are and you think you know, you're probably right. Please note, I couldn't contain my excitement any more so these photos are straight off the camera, no dust removal, no noise reduction, no Photoshop of any kind. I will of course be producing a few wallpapers of these beauties over the next few days, but for now, just soak in the raw beauty. [re-edit: image host back up, photos pointed at the right server once more]
  17. I'm convinced. If you're not allowed 'historical' watches, this one would make the shortlist. I wonder what it'd look like on a NATO strap.
  18. Nice, cos I want to win, and I can't win if I can't buy tickets.
  19. Just FYI. If you want us non-Americans to enter (and you have a country drop-down, so I assume you do), you need to tell your webmasters that US STATE cannot be a compulsory option and neither can PHONE in US FORMAT. Either remove the country option and state it's for CONUS only or make the site work for us furriners. Having worked in the web for about a decade now, the one lesson I hope everyone can learn is to remove as many barriers between the user and their target. Less truly is more. I thought that I could have lied on teh form and put a US state and bogus number in but wondered what would happen if I won then, so I decided to find out. Couldn't see anything obvious and decided to give up and return to my usual web duties. You lost a sale right there, I'm afraid. Simplify the address form and you will sell more tickets: It really is that simple.
  20. You mean before Boner disappeared up his own erse? Sure, Boy, War, Blood Red Sky, all amazing albums by a very angry bunch of passionate young men. Amazing stuff back then. It's such a shame they grew up to be U2. ps. Yes, it's a lovely watch.
  21. I think I would too.
  22. I like the U2, apart from it reminds me of that sanctimonious snot-rag Bono. Truly a gorgeous watch, but every non-WIS is going to ask you if you prefer Achtung Baby or The Joshua Tree, much like the SlyTech makes you kinda homo-erotic. I wonder if it's available without the U2 text on it ps. Totally amazing, gorgeous watch. I really, really want one,a part from that bloody text.
  23. Like I said, it'd have to be the Sub straight out of the Broccoli's safe. The most famous Sub in the world isn't just a no-date Sub. It's historic. I could say about your choices ... given all the choice of all the historic timepieces offered in the world and you'd go for one that's merely worth money? Your car analogy would be like selecting a Veyron straight from the showroom over Bullitt's Mustang. No imagination or soul in your choice.
  24. It's ugly, but not ugly enough for me to want it, unlike the 187, which hit every branch of the ugly tree, breaking them with its sheer uglymass.
  25. The other dream watch would, of course, be Cubby's Sub. Imagine the arguments you could end with that! "In Goldfinger, Sean Connery wore ... THIS one."
