  1. It was the bag Mrs Pugwash gave me a set of rapidographs and some sweeties for my birthday in. It's been lying around and rather than throw it out, I thought I'd use it for something.
  2. The other problem with the 172 is that it's made of Tantalum. I believe the replica is made of Titanium, which is close but not the same.
  3. It's basically the answer to "Who has the best Sub" question. I wub dat sub.
  4. That is a Silix-Prime $110 replica with a Toscana strap on it. If you are unsure what gen to get, get a handful of the $110 reps (a 111, a 183 and a 127, for instance) for the price of a Swiss rep. That way, you can spend a few weeks trying them out, working out what's best for you and then offload them on the forum and get the one you want in either fancy swiss with all the bells and whistles or get a Gen. Th fact that you looked at my $110 rep and asked if it were a rep or a gen means you'll be happy to learn on the cheapoes as they're amazing value for money. I never got round to trading them in for a pricier one.
  5. If all you're doing is replacing the bezel insert, you may be able to pop it off with a thumbnail. If not, you might be better off sacrificing it to the Gods of Mods by removing it destructively (break off the pearl, put a screwdriver in the pearl hole and lever out) as long as you're careful.
  6. This is basically a copy of By-Tor's photo of the Ultimate 45mm PO and the Noobmariner Sub. I added a Fiddy, just so people can get some idea of the scale of these watches. Last year, I got the Noobmariner and thought it was huge. Really obvious and blatantly heavy. Even Mrs Pugwash accused it of being too big. Since then, she wears a Radiomir 183 and I wear anything up to the Fiddy. I even tried on a 187 (possibly the biggest watch I've tried apart from a genuine Big Pilot or Railmaster XXL) on Sunday and found I could wear it without looking too silly. Click for 1280x960 version ps. I don't know where this post should go. It's not a brand shot and it's not a collection shot. Mods, feel free to move it where you think it should go.
  7. Damn, you're making my wallet cry.
  8. Friends don't let friends use Hotmail ...
  9. Remember, this guy was asking if he could do it himself ...
  10. Yup, 45mm PO on rubber. Hamster and Captain Slow may also have been sporting new watches, but I couldn't make out what. I know Captain Slow recently (in the last year) bought an IWC, but I don't know which one. I love that show, even though Clarkson is [censored]ular.
  11. Well, I was watching the new episode of Top Gear and felt they put in a section just for me. It was a Jaguar XK vs an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, and in it, Clarkson was sporting a new black Planet Ocean with rubber strap, power-sliding an Aston and a Jag while they played not one but two songs by Mogwai. Fantastic stuff. Yes, Clarkson is a [censored], but he's our [censored].
  12. Not any more he doesn't. I believe he's been suspended. ps. Nice shot of Gare St Lazare in your sig.
  13. Gen if you can afford it, Rep if you can't.
  14. And I need to start saving up now ... for a new pair of eyes.
  15. Without the glare, there's no other way of showing it. Go take a photo of wind and just show us the actual wind, or take an underwater shot of water ...
  16. Does your friend make many watch movements? What he's talking about is CNC manufacturing, and he's not taking into account springs, rubies, several different materials, etc., let alone the sheer scale. These are tiny, tiny precision parts. Yes, in theory it's dead easy, just like swimming the English channel: Just point yourself at France and swim. The reality is a lot different, though.
  17. I'm not that talented, but I truly believe that for watch photography, I've now hit the limits of my camera. Sure, I can improve on composition, lighting, etc., but technically, the only way I'm going to improve (remember I'm just talking watch photography) is to get a DSLR. I'm not sure I'll get one just yet, though.
  18. You forgot to mention you also need to do it in a country less serious about trademark infringement than the US, anywhere in Europe, Australia, etc.
  19. wtf. You cannot be serious.
  20. No. I left the camera in the bag. You've seen photos from the last one so there didn't seem to be a need for more photos of the same people.

  22. Oh, I'm sure he means someone whose name rhymes with Go-Bart.
  23. Weird, that link doesn't work ...
  24. Yes, I suppose I can, especially when what I consider a throwaway comment is now scrutinised for motive. It's getting harder to post here without being judged on my tone, and I believe that's part of the price for actually standing up and saying something. Should I continue to post the way I feel or should I censor myself so as not to offend? It's a tough choice and I think I'd rather be right than loved (I don't come on the internet to be liked - that way lies madness) so I'm going to have to continue coming off as high and mighty, I'm afraid. Just assume I'm not actually like that in real life.
  25. You'd need a precision factory to make a perfect replica of a Rolex movement. No-one does it because it's hard. Like invest-in-a-factory hard.
