  1. Most tourbillons are hand-wind. I'd get a gen from Homer instead of a rep.
  2. If history had allowed? It did and the ancient culture you're talking about gave us civilisation. Not a hope. The escapement is considerably more advanced than this mechanism. The Antikythera Mechanism is to the Astrolabe what a ship's chronometer is to a clock tower. Yes, it's very, very clever indeed, but it's nowhere near as advanced as the Turing-Welchman bombe or the Difference Engine.
  3. That's as much the truth as "I got this watch from my uncle. No box or papers." Yes, by that I mean it's a standard lie.
  4. v2.0 crapped out at around 64 apps. This was fixed.
  5. If wishes were horses we'd all be eating steak.
  6. This happened to a friend of mine on a 1st gen iPhone. It's not as rare as you'd think. http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2007/08/30/no-i...o-a-simple-fix/ http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?t...&tstart=120 http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-78288.html
  7. If it works with the headphones in, it's the headphone socket that's been bashed. If you plug in/pull out the headphones a few times, see if that makes a difference.
  8. No chance. It's a different Breitling, though. 2008 was definitely the year of the Breitling.
  9. Applecare can be worth it, but you don't need to buy it when you buy the iMac. As for saving $300 by buying it on eBay, seeing as it costs $169 for an iMac, I'd take that price with a pinch of salt. RAM used to be hideously expensive from Apple, but is now about the same price as from elsewhere. Get it from Apple if you don't like opening your computers. As for the mouse, you may like the Apple one, but this is something you can decide after you've tried it for a week. Software? Get Launchbar. If you're doing Web work, get Coda. Try the iWork trials on the Mac and if you like them, buy them. Text editor? BBEdit. You will need VLC and Handbrake if you're ripping DVDs and to round out the video playmack experience, get Perian. On top of that lot, the professional software you should get depends on what you want to do with it. Spec? That depends on what you can afford. You need the 24" though.
  10. luxury-mall.com will be a card broker for the Chinese dealers. I very much doubt the Cartel boys will be running their own card processors with SSL certs and secure bank API back-ends. It's not worth their while when there are so many brokers offering their services for a guaranteed percentage.
  11. Dealers don't carry it because it's a 2894-based watch. It'd not look anything like that one in the photo.
  12. I always thought giving counterfeiters your credit card details was a bad idea. It's not whether or not you trust your dealer; it's whether or not you trust their part-time help not to get trojans on their computers, or have a nice little earner on the side selling gwailo credit card numbers.
  13. An entire industry has been consistently wrong for two years; of course they're going to have to try some radical stuff. What's more, they may still be wrong. At least we get to call the 'experts' on their BS now. "Hey, Mister TV Pundit. You suck. You provably know nothing!"
  14. Today, I decided to wear my signature piece. ... and to go with a retro theme, here's the first wristshot I took of it, before I sent it off to The Zigmeister to get the gen dial fitted. March, 2006.
  15. No, don't as that may actually make him turn up and turn it into his day. Just walk away from it. He's out of your life; don't get sucked into whatever issues he has. It simply isn't your problem any more.
  16. Yeah, I agree. Your single strong source is working against what are otherwise technically excellent pictures.
  17. Excellent stuff. It reminds me of when I joined.
  18. My brother has a 45.5mm Orange gen and he never takes it off. It's his 24/7 watch. On stainless steel, it is a lot more versatile than you'd think
  19. What's your budget? I say a Sanrio "Hello Kitty" watch or a pink Baby-G.
