  1. Superb! If anyone has a black 42 for sale, drop me a line.
  2. I've been a FreeBSD user since 4.nn, but I have to use Linux (Fedora and Centos) at work. Centos is my second favourite server OS just behind FreeBSD. Obviously, it's MacOSX on the desktop, as its BSD-ness just feels right to me. ... and I've had fault-free BSD upgrades (upgrading from source is the only way) from 4 to 6. I've not got a BSD server currently, so I've not upgraded to 7 yet. ps. Nice watch.
  3. You're complaining because some get through? Would you prefer they got it right every time? Our hobby would be dead if customs was 100% efficient.
  4. The watch that always made me drool as a kid in the 70s was this one: Since then, I've grown out of digital, although I did recently repair a vintage Pulsar for a friend at work. It brought back great memories.
  5. You're complaining because you're not always lucky. Carry on though; It sounds really funny and reminds me of my childhood days in primary school when Mark got a larger slice of pie than Joe and the tears about injustice started. Ah, good times.
  6. I bet Alan Moore is turning in his ... um, beard.
  7. Well, today is upon us and I decided on this big, ugly beast.
  8. You're missing one point: Tax is due on the item. You can reclaim it later, but it is due now. It's more like the hobo paying your toll fee across a bridge for you then claiming it off you, if you insist on the hobo analogy. If you're hoping it sneaks through customs, you're gaming the system and as such should expect to have to pay what you owe once in a while.
  9. I had a coin-toss between Linux and BSD, and I got it wrong. Damn. I knew it wasn't OSX as they removed Sendmail for Postfix, and Solaris's top is different. You upgraded to FreeBSD7? Ok, I have to get out of bed and pick a watch for today.
  10. Here's my brace of Monsters. White datewheels are for the Orange Monster.
  11. It's not a scam. Tax exemption means you can claim it back.
  12. Doesn't matter. If it's a real gift, they'll not tax it if it's below a certain value. If it's not really a gift or if it's over a certain value, you'll get taxed.
  13. A man's got to dream. This will never happen.
  14. I'm not sure that's the best advice, to be honest. A Canon EOS (or any DSLR) is the sort of thing I'd recommend to someone with a bit of experience. A decent SLR and decent lens is distinctly not cheap. You're better off with any of the big-brand point-and-shoot cameras or one of the decent bridge cameras if you want to learn more. Starting on a DSLR is like learning to drive in a tuned race car with adjustable suspension and gearing.
  15. What do you call reasonably priced? http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp
  16. Running "top" on Linux, I see. I don't know why, but this one called out to me this morning - or rather afternoon as last night was the work's christmas bash. Apologies for the old photos ...
  17. I prefer watermarking in Photoshop as you can control where the image/text goes. However, on a Mac, you can accomplish all this with an Automator action. http://www.yvs.eu.com/downloading.html
  18. Customs fees apply on all imports.

  20. It's a harmless idea, but a dangerous reality.
  21. I suffered from the hit-and-runs a lot. Impolite and demanding, most of the time. It got so bad at one point that I had to add a disclaimer to my signature. People were asking me stuff about watches I've never even posted about, or asking me which dealer that has blacklisted me would be best for them. Still, if I get a PM from someone whose name I've seen in a post or with a VIP tag, they'll get a proper reply. If they're a no-post-noddy with the stock signature, they now get Toady's Noobie guide instead of a reply as it usually answers everything they were asking and going to ask. Seriously, why would anyone ever ask me if Davidsen's PAM012345 was better than Trusty's? I've never professed to be a Panerai expert, I've never bought from Davidsen and Trusty dislikes me. Post-count and rep can be a burden.
  22. Sure you can. You just won't be carrying as many videos as you'd like.
