  1. I agree. If someone is going to rip me off, I'd rather it were a small watch dealer than a large corporation. ... not that any of our trusted dealers would ever rip us off, obviously. I'd still chance the cash-in-envelope with any of the dealers I have already done business with.
  2. I'm happy with pp, no matter how risky. I'm even ok with bills-stuffed-in-an-envelope-pal. At a pinch, if the dealer gave me discount, I'd use WU. I've even used propay with Silix once. However, I will never buy from a dealer using e-gold.
  3. Here's one I took earlier ...
  4. I'm no TTK, but I try my best.
  5. I'll be getting a Palbundi fairly soon, with any luck. In fact, the PO is up for sale on RWI and if there are no takers, it'll be advertised here. It's for sale so I can buy a cheap Black Seal or similar. Hey, it's on offer for a straight trade against a decent vintage-style PAM. Offer up a 111h or similar and the PO is yours. You will never see a modern Palbundi in my collection, however. No fugly hockey-pucks for me.
  6. As seen on RWI and TRC, here's my current collection, apart from the IWC GST Chrono that's between Royal Mail and La Poste at the moment. I thought it only fair to post it here too, for whatever reason. When my IWC arrives, I'll edit it in to this post. (edit. GST Added)
  7. Genuine SMPs are domed, but thet have AR coating so they look flat in photos due to the lack of reflections.
  8. How does that make any sense? Airbags go off even when nobody is in the car ...
  9. All the info you want on this case is being chronicled on The Register. The guy is a [censored], yes, and it is indeed difficult to buy guns if you're a foreigner or a felon. He was, of course, both.
  10. ... or even something like an IWC GST Chrono. People who know I wear reps seem to take an interest in what I have on each day. People who don't, probably haven't even noticed I wear more than watch. I work in a job where I can conceivably afford one decent Gen around $2000-$4000 and no-one would even find it that unusual (UNIX Sysadmin) even if people knew how much they cost. They think either $300 or $15000 usually. The time one of my pals pointed out my fake Sub to another friend with a real 18k President, it was to compare the sweep and point and laugh at the guy with the pres because I got a bargain and he didn't. The guy with the gen didn't even question the fact mine could have been fake. He just said a simple "Oh, you've got one too" until my pal pointed out mine wasn't real. We tried each others' watches out, then got back to the matter at hand, which was beer and catching up on old times. Let's face it, most people want to believe it's real.
  11. ... and neither is the evil despot that anthrax-bombed all the geniuses working on abolishing cancer of the puppy and kittenpox. Can you tell I hate that argument? edit for spellink
  12. I'm prejudiced against flash sites though. I can't link to any particular watch in Homer's site to show to a friend, for instance. If I need to ask about any model here, I'd need to say "Click in the button at the top, no, left a bit and ... yes, there ... click ... CLICK THERE, yes, got it ... and now, drop down to Breitling, and choose, yes, you can turn off the music. Let's start again..."
  13. Narikaa and Precious Time are active on TRC and especially RWI, links to both of which should be available in the FAQ section here. I've dealt with both of them and they are amongst the best dealers around, and they're both in the UK. Cannot recommend them highly enough. If you can't find the other forums, feel free to PM me as I don't feel comfortable openly spamming this place.
  14. C'mahn, Ahdoomah Pighey, Datch. Pushink der too many pencil? Two snehks facing each ahdah!
  15. B&O are very overpriced. You can get significantly better for a lot less, but it won't look as good.
  16. I now have this vision in my head of Ahnahld trying to pronounce Audemars Piguet. It's quite worrying.
  17. As my brother, who bought a gen 45mm after getting a rep, told me, the most visible thing, especially when photographing, is the AR coating on the gen. Your photos show that too.
  18. You have got to be kidding me. I mean I like my willy, but I don't need to see a gold model of one every hour to remind me I have it. This seems like someone has issues, in gold and filigree.
  19. That's because they're bricking it over the fact the bottom is going to fall out of the Palbundi market. The whole Panerai craze is like the tulipomania of the 17th century. The reason they have value is that they have value. The watches themselves have nothing going for them, apart from nice typography and ... um, they're big. Panerai is a brand based on smoke and mirrors and the tears in the seams are showing. Their new watches are, to be frank, low-end hockey-pucks made of off-the-shelf components. Once the emperor has been deemed naked, and that's at the end of this diatribe, the value of vintage models will be taken down along with the crumbling realisation that nothing new has come out of the factory since they turned a pocket watch on its side and put it underwater. Oh, sorry, they have a technical innovation. I forgot. That crown guard, which really is too big and serves no purpose, apart from covering up an ability to add a threaded crown to a bought-in movement. You might as well get a Graham Cockfighter OVORKOMPENSATOR watch, at that point. The upside is that the prices on the vintages will stabilise and once the hollywood non-girly men move to something more cucumber-down-pants, you'll be able to buy pre-vendome models for realistic money instead of house-and-car money. Bad news for investors, good news for proper collectors. Anyway, so as to be a harbinger, I'm saying it here and now. The Emperor Has No Clothes: New Panerai watches are as good as Tag Hauers, and that's it. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but them's the facts. Big Tag Hauers, sure.
  20. In the UK, Precious Time stocks it. He's active on RWI and TRC (links available in the links section or the faq, I believe) or at Precioustime-UK Gorgeous watch, but with all the usual Asian 7750 woes. Worth the risk, IMO.
  21. I'm sure the peanut gallery will be crying out for pics of your girlfriend, as usual, but we generally keep our identities a little obscured as this hobby is not necessarily legal. If your showing your face won't get you in legal trouble, then it'd be intriguing to put names to faces.
  22. Lightboxes are good. You may need more light, though.
