  1. I just took delivery of The Legend, my Panerai PAM111h, and I read on the Silix website that they claim it's waterproof. After a brief discussion with Edge, whereby he said "I'll run it under the tap. Wait there ... MINE IS 100% watertight", I felt that I was confident that mine too would be water-resistant. Now, how do you do a safe test for watertightness? Here's the trick: Hot water. Air escapes before water enters, in theory. Here's what we'll do. Take that strap off that watch with that screwdriver, and dunk that watch in that glass. Elliot asked if we have big balls, and I reckon Edge and myself have proven we do, by testing our PAMs so you don't have to. I'm removing the strap because we know it's waterproof, right? Note TTK lens cloth. Test it all fits, with help from Yoda. "mmMMmm, full it is, the glass, yes yes?" Thank you Yoda. Here goes. New watch, arrived today, how big are those balls? Just do it, click of a pic and whip it out, yes? "Do or do not, there is no dry." Oh, ha ha ha. At this point, I was a little nervous. I left it in for a while and saw no bubbles at all. None, zero, nada. Oh, apart from that one at the top of the crystal. Oh, well, it doesn't seem to be getting any bigger ... Pull the watch out, it still ticks. We have a winner. Just like Edge said, in his own inimitable style "caution to the wind, and it passed with fluing colours" whatever fluing means. I presume it's something edinburghese for something or other. These Palnoobai cheap 111h reps are totally amazing value for money. A solid watch that is waterproof and cool-looking. The next time anyone asks what PAM they should get for their first Panerai, just send them to this article.
  2. 3) Recessed cannon pin. 4) It's missing the sales guy sniffing round for commission on another $3000 watch. Actually, I can live with point 4.
  3. As this is my first day taking pics of my Panerai, I've not even started warming up yet. I promise you a lot more pics of much higher quality once I've got to grips with the subject.
  4. I still hate the modern designs. Even more so now I can see what Panerai can do when they get it right.
  5. Is this an attempt at humour?
  6. I have not seen a swiss one. The 7750@28, with the cost of a The Zigmeister service thrown in, is as reliable as an ETA, and probably still cheaper.
  7. The first ever Pugwash Panerai wristcheck.
  8. For those who don't read RWI, I've finally got a Panerai. Supplied by Silix Prime, this is the cheap-ass $110 PAM111h. What can I say that ... um, Edge hasn't said before. It's superb. This is it on the the "big balls #4" strap. It's a Toscana Marina "Il Mupetto" Cappricio or something. Inadvertently named by Moggio, it is The Legend.
  9. I get this, but uncredited 'borrowed' photos? I'm going to bow out of this one as I don't know Richard, and don't want to be seen as picking on one of your friends ... unless it's Asspire Paul, of course.
  10. I just bought a watch off Halley. Maybe I should just pop over and get it instead of having him post it.
  11. I think I need to organise a Paris get-together. Anyone interested? (this has been a cleverly disguised bump)
  12. Just to repeat what I said on TRC, I hope you got permission to use his photos. And once more, I do not give you permission to use any of mine, just in case you were trawling the boards for free pics.
  13. Yeah, but to keep on topic, fake fake straps are not going to hurt either.
  14. I'll add my vote purely out of curiosity. You know if you get her to do it with RWI written on her, you win a watch over on the Dark Side, right?
  15. And Fake Watches? Seriously, look around. See those walls? They're glass.
  16. By that, you mean at Blade. If it's not a board sploit, it's someone with ftp access, either through authorised or unauthorised access. Either way, the fault falls at the admin's feet. By the way, people, in no way does this hint at a vulnerability in Paypal. What would be worse is that if the fake dealer sent you WU details and you sent cash that way. I agree with you in principle, but I'd take that bet.
  17. Whose name is on the front of your watch?
  18. Yeahh, but with crack, you'd neither know what time it was nor care.
  19. If it was at the old RWG, it's bad. Elsewhere, it's fine. (edit to add ... just change your passwords anyway. What harm can it do?)
  20. You were just a victim of opportunistic proto-hackers that got lucky on a board-sploit. I don't think we're honestly under some sort of concerted attack. In other words, the blame for this can be firmly put at anyone responsible for administering RWG1. Anyone not patching their codebase on something they made money off is a fecktard of the highest order. It's blatantly irresponsible to let something like that get to the point where a couple of eastern-european kids with a set of cheap-ass sploit scripts can get into people's paypal accounts and trade off reputations of valued members without any real effort. The lesson to be learned is when the board Admin sets sail with a suitcase of everyone else's money, get the [censored] out.
  21. We're just victims of opportunistic skr1pt k1dd13s: It doesn't look particularly organised to me. However, that advice is good advice, regardless of RWG1's fall. You need to start implementing a few best practices, like encouraging people to post the board name on their for-sale pics, like RWI does. We can, however, just hope that these rat-farts just decide to cut their losses and give up now before they're caught.
  22. Andrew, can you confirm that you did in fact login to RWG1 after it was compromised? If this is the case, we can be one step closer to knowing that it was in fact a password sniffer installed on the site. If this is the case, anyone that didn't type their name/password into the old RWG can worry about other stuff instead.
