They put some sort of catnip in them. I don't get it, personally. The vintage Palbundis have a certain charm (and wonderful typography) but everything after Sly Stallone got signed up is pretty crappy, in my opinion. They had something before they went all gentrified or macho. Still, a lot of people, mostly rep hounds, like them, so there most be something, right? I don't own one but I could be tempted by an old-school Militare or Black Seal one if I feel a gap in my Rep collection that only a big square watch can fill.

I'd not bother. The big deal about the Daytona is that it's a stopwatch, and this one doesn't do that. The main second hand shouldn't be going around and that's a dead giveaway from 6 feet. The fact that this is a rep of a $10,000 watch needs considering too.

Three subdials. Which one is the second hand? None of them? Then it's not a gen, or even a good rep. The 9-o-clock is showing the day? The 6 is showing the date? These are all signs that this is a cheap rep. Oh, and the hologram? 116610 is a Submariner.

They're known as Crackberry in the IT business. You'll be checking your mail every 30 seconds and won't be able to be away from it for more than a few minutes at a time. Before long, you realise sleep is for the weak that don't get mail and you're looking for the waterproof version so you can start taking showers again. Intrusive technology, I have one on my desk at work I refuse to get hooked into.

This is easier to see at the N. The problem isn't the text position, though. The problem is actually that the date box is too far to the right on a Rep. It's still one of the finest reps out there.

"A dream to some, a nightmare to others!" After what happened last time, are you sure you want to go down that same disasterous path? With hindsight, which is all I have as it happened way before my time, it's obvious the project was doomed. Now we know why it failed and the pitfalls along the way. Why risk it all again for what is basically a watch only made interesting by the story of its failure? Gran, what did this watch cost you personally? Reputation, sanity, mod_privs, cash, happiness ... and you would consider it again? They make 'em out of stern stuff up north, I'll tell you. Rather you than me.
