Thank you all for the feedback . I didn't know about this holiday in China. Still, I haven't heard from Angus. I better resend the message, as the one sent before is probably burried with dozens of other unread messages in his mailbox. I'll keep you posted. Jaime

Hi all: I sent Angus an e mail the night before last explaining the situation. No reply so far. If I don'tt hear from him by tomorrow night, I'll contact the Moderator, so as to see if he can do something to help me sort this out. Best Jaime

Thank you all for your comments. I?m sorry, I meant PURETIME, NOT Precious time. I'll edit the post so as not to blame another dealer for this episode. It is my impression that there was some degree of selfrighteousness and discrimination in their asking for money to "solve" the problem. Can someone tell me how to get in touch with Angus directly ? Thank you again for your support.

Hi fellow members. I hope you can give some advise regarding an unfulfilled order from a respectable dealer who adverstises on the forum. About three months ago I ordered a Brgeuet Aeronavale type XX from this dealer. I paid in excess of $ 300 including EMS postage. I asked the watch be sent EMS so as to expdite delivery. Since the seller charged my credit card, around JUly 15, I have been waiting for the watch. When after two weeks the parcel did not arrive I contacted Nikki (Precioustime customer support) asking him if there was a problem with the shipment. He admitted, the watch had not been sent vi EMS, butby Registered Mail. So I asked him for the postal number, so as to track the parcel. He gave me a number starting with JR and .. ending with GB which told me the watch must have been on its way by Royal Mail. I tracked the number given to me and I found the parcel had been delivered in England. I contacted Nikki again and he excused himself saying the number he had given me corresponded to another delivery. So he gave me a new JR number, which showed the parcel was in trasit. I waited for another two weeks to no avail. Finally, after about month's wait, the number is reprted as non existent in the local postal service data base. So, I assume the watch was stolen while in transit. I explained this to Nikki at Customer Support, asking him what he would do about it. The answer I received shocked me. He suggested I should send additional $ 190 to cover half of the replacement watch cost, which he would refund if the lost item is ventually deliverd and if I returned it to him. My questio is: I s that it ? What is the dealer's responsibility in this case ? when he did not ship the watch accoding instructions from the buyer (EMS) whcih was paid for, sending it economy mail instead ? Is it fair that I am asked to share the cost of sending a new watch, when all this episode was due to the dealer's poor shipping management ? I wonder if this is the way it is in this business. The dealer goofs and you lose your money. I think not Your comments are very welcome. Jaime

Are All The Forums Charging To Sell Now?...
alterego replied to Dave123's topic in General Discussion
I very much agree. The older format was a lot more friendly. There was a sense of a community. I did not sell any watch under that format but a bought a few from fellow members. Now it's like reading the ad section of a paper. Cold, impersonal and boring. It's a petty, it's not as much fun as it used to be when reading watch trade forum. -
Sorry, for some reason my reply came out twice.

I always think of myself a a liberal (innovation wise) but I must admit I don't like changing things around. "If it aint broke, why fixing it, " as thet say." I knoiw the new design for the site will be good for improvement and more options, but I'll miss the older format and its protocoles. Hope things work out and bugs are fixed gradually. Cheers !!! Hey: Six watches coming in the next two weeks!!! That's what I'd call enthusiasm. Good for you sir. I've been waiting for a Breguet Type XX, for two months now and I'm almost running out of patience. I can't wait. Enjoy the watches in good health.

Hi all: I'm an avid collector of replica watches and I just realized I lost one of my Chronomnat's big date riders, as I got off the car this morning. It's the "N" rider and the watch looks like crap without it. Can someone kindly give me any ideas where I could get a replacement (rider) ? Thnk you in advance for your eventual help.

I wrote a full explanation of how I found the parts and the text disapeaared. To make the story short. I asked my watchmaker what he parts would look like and run a search on Rolex ove wiment wnding parts. They are called the winding pinion and the cluthch. There are few for sale in ebay, so I'll order them so as to complete one more step in the restoration of the 1500 Oyster Perpetual. Next, a silver dial. Thank you for your sggestions. Alter

Hi all: As you probably know I'm an enthusiastic Rolex rep collctor, which includes modifying and restoring rep and gen pieces. One of my friends has a Rolex 1500 Perpetual Date for sale. The watch is in good shape but this is after going through major surgery. The watch works, and keeps time within a decent range. Originally this watch belonged to someone who left the watch in a tin box in the basement, whre the watch took some water during years. The movement was in pretty bad shape and the watchmaster who overhauled modified some Mido parts that he fit in the Rolex movement to make it run. As I said, tye watch runs fine. The only problem is that I cannot wind it. The watch maker says two wheels in the movement having to do with the winding function are in such a bad shape that need to be replaced. In Spanish they are called the "carretilla" wheel and the other is the "canto" (side/edge) wheel. I have looked in the internet for these parts with Spanglish names to no avail. My question has to do with finding out the English name for the parts (wheels) that enable the movement's winding systeem. Can someone tell me "what" I must look for in Shakespeare's language ???? Sorry for such a long post, but I really had to be this quite generous in the description of the situation. Gratefully. Alter PS. Attached are somepics of the watch.

Thnk you all for the nice comments about this, my first project. I have found a new dimension in collecting reps here in this forum. I'll keep you posted about future projects. Soon I'll start working in the restauration of a gen Datejust, inherited by a fmale cousin. It's a real challenge because the watch is in terrible shape. But that's the fun of bringing near dead watchs back to life. I'll post pics as soon as I receive the watch for a "before and after" photo gallery sometime in the near future. Cheers !!! Alter

Hi Richard: That's a very attractive 33 year old gen you posted. How many times have you sent it for service ? and, if may ask you, have you had it running constantly for such long time ? My questions stem from some comments among friends on how they have the quartz movements replaced by dealers, because of movement parts tear and wear or quartz oscilator/coil malfunctioning. Thank you for your comments Richard.

Thank you for the suggestion MG. I never thought about the Tuning Fork option for movement. I own a old Bulova that has the kind of movement and I wonder if all tuning fork movements make the same sound. It's a (what is the English word for it)like the mosquito buzzing. I'll jeck the link. Cheers !!! Alter

Thank you Dutchguy (and all) for your kind comments. I really enjoy the watch. I'm amazed at the accuracy of the cheap movement. I think Miyota is a very good option in this case, when aa Rolex movement would sell for several hundred dollars, if you are lucky to find one. The cost of the project is as follows. gen case and braceelet $ 250 gen dial 160 crystal 25 gen crown and tube 75 Miyota movement 20 sterling silver links 50 hands came with the movement clasp taken from a derelict rep bracelet watchmker's labor 50 ----------- Total $ 630 I was planning on spending around $ 500, but the extra $ 130 are worth the fun of having a rare and cool watch.

Hi all: I just wanted to share with you some pics of my almost finished OQ project. This has been in progress for about a year and today, I decided to keep a low end Miyota 2115 movement in it for the time being, as it's hard to find a higher end movement that would fit physically and aesthetically. The case and bracelet are gen, and so are the dial, crown and tube. Rep components include the bezel, (Datejust), clasp and crystal,(the same) and hands (Miyota). As the bracelet was three links short, I had these made of stirling silver, which will do until I hopefully find the gen. Let me know what you think. Cheers !!! Alter

In my humble opinion people who celebrate destruction of "fake" watches are psychologically unbalanced individuals. Hey, would you go around burning the replicas of Leonardo's masterpiece Mona Lisa, that are for sale in the Louvre's giftshop ??? Replica haters are dangerous people who are not able to see that - functionally - the only difference between a genuine watch and the copy is the sign value, as intrinsically both are just metal turned into time measuring devices.

Thank you for your comments. I followed your advise and after quite a bit of emailing to different dealers and other web sites I settled for Nikki Chen. It took a lot of time to complete the deal, ( I was told that the watch was not available)but after much correspondence with Nikki, it turned out there was a watch available for me and last thing I heard is that the watch is s on its way now. Thank you again for responding to my call. I'll post some pics whent the watcht surfaces here. Cheers !!!

Hi Richard: My birthday present surfaced today. It was a long voyage that sometimes kept me from a good sleep. I'm as happy as I can be.
Sorry about having you go through this ordeal.
Cheers !!

What a wealth of inforrmation in the the link you include in your answer. I guess if that post with the details about what case was used for building the Montecarlos with Rusian engines, It may be worth trying. I saw several Poljot chrono adds for sale in internet and most of them were quite affordable, commpared to the $ 350/$600 range for a Valjoux 7734 powered watch availoable in the net. Thank you again for the great information you shared. Best regards. Jaime What a wealth of information in the post you W

I guess I pretty much asked my question in the topic description above. I'm working in a Motecarlo project and I don't want to canivalize the Zodiac chrono that was originaally going to be the movement donor. I wonder if someone would know if the Poljoyt chrono movement that powered the Rusdian cosmonauts' watches would fit a Montecarlo DW case. Hope someone kwnows. Otherwise I'll have to try and see ...
