Hi: Never heard about someone buying a strap first and then going for the watch, but that's absolutely legitimate. In my opinion if you want something different (not Panerai) I'd go gen. If you look with patience in the internet you re going to run into pretty interesting vintage 1930's and 40's rebuilds and restored pilot watches from WW II. They are gen, Swiss or German made pieces actually isued to the Luftwaffe and other branches of the German armed foces during those times. If you are concerned about price, think of $300 to $700 dollars, which is what you'd pay for an asian powered rep or a modded (so trendy these days) classic. Look for brands like Doxa, Eterna and Longines. Hope this helps you in your quest. Cheers.

I was called out once, a few years back. But not exactly wearing a rep, but a franken. I own an Oysterquartz, about 50% gen (but the movement) and this guy says I was wearing rep since the second hand jumped and did not swept. I told him that it was a franken OQ, the only quartz watch ever made by Rolex. He did not believe me as - he said- Rolex would never make a a cheap quartz watch. I told him he was wrong, because Rolex produced the OQ for decades. So he argued that it was unfair that I was making up this story, to cover my "unathic" practice. What can you do if he was half right ? I hope he later realized I was being "honest" to some degree in my explanation. Here is a pic of the frankenstein Oysterquartz, which I wear as I write this post.

I'd say you repair or service that watch you really love. I can see the point of not spending a fortune if you can buy a new rep watch for alittle more, but sometimes that watch is not available anymore. On the other hand, I think spending $ 100 servicing an ETA iwatch s not that out of consideration, since the same service would cost you $ 200 or more if the watch is a gen like a Longines, Omega or the like.

Superb. Besides great pics on the rolexes, I have to say the music pace and rhythm matched so well with the images that this made me accept the short takes on each watch . Great work Freddy

Try a vintage Doxa, Longines or Eberhard. 60 years old watches that you can buy for the price of super replica, or even less than that. -
Well, In my opinion, there are several reasons to buy a replica. I guess among these, there is the fact that not many will spend 5,10 or 20 K in a watch, just to "feel" the sensation of wearing a "real" Patek, Rolex or Panerai. Then there are others, who will buy replicas for "passing" as rich" duds, so as to satisfy the socio economic preassure/principle of "being what yuo own," as marxists would say. I myself belong to a third group, in chich people buy replicas because they simply love watches !!! Let's face it, this is the simplest and most affordable way to fulfill our "dreams. "

Thank you gentlemen for your tips and coments. I'll check with the RWG approved dealers and see if they carry the watch. I want a white dialed watch with black sub dials. Freddy's idea of buying a standard 65x and swap the bezel sounds good, the question is will a standard Daytona take a bezel that I can source in the internet ? and will the same case take the white dial i'm looking for ? I'll keep you posted about my (re)search.

Hi Freddie: Thank you for your time and advice. Here is the URL to the watch I found in the net. The pics are not very good but one can get an idea. I'm not very picky about details in a replica. My only concern is the dial quality and the rehaut, hopefully as close to the gen as possible. Here's the link- http://www.timercart.com/goods-543-Rolex+Daytona+6265+OYSTER+White+Dial+Swiss+ETA+Replica+Watch.html Cheers.

I've seen this iconic Rolex in so many threads for such a long time and I never felt much for it. Small, and obviously overrated as far as price and looks. I thought. But that has changed. The more I see it on books, mags and internet articles the more I like it. The white dial and black subdials make the trick, I think. I've looked in the net and a few dealers (are they to be trusted is the question) offer it from $ 89 to $ 600 dollars. There is this dealer timecart, that has what seems to be a decent copy. The problem is he wants $499, with what is advertised as SWiss ETA 7750 movement, kind of too good to be true I guess. I'd appreciete your advise on this before I take the plunge. I can't resist the urge to have this sucker on my wrist. Thank you for your help.

I was reading the thread asking "where was I ?" somewhere below, with the big clock in the backgroundand I thougt about asking if there is something like this whwre you live. Here is a pic of an old clock the front of the old custom house built by Gustave Eiffel, in my home town. As the picture shows, the French clock (I asume dating back to late 1800s, is in derelict condition, deserving a badly needed restauration.
