It's ok. I recently visited a Irish pub and said hey. What cool whiskey do you have. They had this import tullamore dew. Apparently some kids from Ireland were in town and that's what they wanted so they put it in stock. It was the smoothest drink I've ever had. I mean like on the scale of a good wine smooth. I do know that 7 yrs ago had I seen my collection I'd have flipped out. Only makes sense right? Clearly I fulfilled my own tastes. But, it took years of trial and error and many many advancements of rep building. I'm soooo close. I'm finishing my custom build guitar amp I'm close to finishing the wood you see for display and photos Got a proper lens for cam to take close ups Got my donated watch mvt parts cleaned (thanks man) Got new marble surfaces for photo Light box completed New pen models (not for sale, for me and gifts) picked out (place I'm living has a woodshop) And, my bad ass 5 yr old, in the last 2 months stole the show at the hard rock by jammin with my band on drums during sound check. And, unbeknownst to me is a natural QB. He literally has perfect technique. I had no idea. Although, I ran into Daunte Culpepper a few months back and out 5+6 yr olds were playing around. His comment was nice release. I guess I should have listened. When I taped us playing catch and slowed it down, I have it lined up to tom Brady and he is literally dead on, eyes, hips, shoulders feet even his left hand was exactly where Brady's was. I'm not shittin ya. He is throwing 10-12 yards, perfect spiral and good accuracy. Before we moved up to the official ball (heavy) he was scary accurate, hitting a 12 inch hoop from 15 feet. After checking YouTube, where tons of 5 yr olds are more talented than you. I only found a handful throwing. Our pee wee team last year won the superbowl and went 6 for 6 passing in the superbowl. No one in this flag league passes. My kid is throwing twice as far and much more accurate. I'm not saying we will Peyton manning up the peewee league this year, being 5 he doesn't have the focus or interest enough to develop yet. But, this should be a fun year. Just wish we had our star wr back from last year. He is the kid of a 9 yr pro football linebacker. He was fast and had great hands. We would have no doubt tore it up. Anyone got a 5/6 yr old w good hands?

So, I know I said I had some cool things to show off. Unfortunately, I had some straps on order and they are currently lost in the mail. In the meantime I got busy, all good things. Finally, looks like I'm back in the saddle again. I still have all the stuff minus straps, and some wood projects and the watch parts. Very close to getting back to a realistic routine and work in hobby things. But, I pass this shelf everyday and I'm sad it is only half ready. So I snapped a blackberry photo (blackberry blows at photos) but, I don't have room to setup the box and get stuff going. So here is the last tease before I get some real work done.

Tired of this "game"? (constantly need parts..)

Ya yes yes In general I do not send $$ to china for anything if I'm not willing to lose it -
First - to clarify they are all Asian, eta parts possibly, but Asian hands. Get the high beat. Small seconds it's ok, large seconds always go highbeat no mater what the label is

Well I promised a lightbox show some time ago. The box was easy. Updating the collection was more challenging, mostly because of $$ both selling used and acquiring new. The most challenging part which grew and became the most ambitious was the natural wood scenery. I acquired some very nice but inexpensive pieces and have been refining my polishing technique on the lesser pieces and sides. I think I found the right combo. It takes time and a lot of hand work sanding and polishing. Its really kicking now. The donated dead movements and parts are cleaned by the sonic cleaner, my watchmaker is trying to fix the [censored] ups he did to my pieces. Screwed up a movt and scratched the rep AR (gonna send it out anyway) But I promise it will be worth the useless posts and time . I hope that you will enjoy the photos and possibly become inspired to find your own photographic adventure. I found the same from members here, TTK, pugwash, and others. Thank you for reading. That will be all for now.

It's not, its not controversial. It's called fighting the last war. Don't spend money checking shoes, spend money figuring out what the NEXT terrorist is going to do. If your a frequent flier you can get on a pre approved list to get faster screenings -

I always carry a backpack and throw all metal in there. And have my shoes off. If you don't. You WILL have to, so stop holding me up. Also if your in line at a fast food restaurant. 1. You will be required to order. 2. You will be required to pay. DO NOT wait till you get to the counter to thik about your order and take the damn credit card OUT of your purse. I don't want to see you digging for 5 minutes then calling the bank to inquire and consulting your grandmother on interest rates. All of this happens 100% of the time so do us all a favor and pay the F attention the the world occurring around you. -

Well since I go through that airport constantly, and I am friends with the sheriff, and I know about the cameras, I think I would pass. -

Even cooler, I was totally sold on this brand my last trip. This is a good video to see their signature "turbine" movement. This first vid gives a pretty good view of in person POV http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uy90qc7WWwk&feature=youtube_gdata_player Construction and understanding of the movement which is nearly impossible to understand without this video They are ok, neat but not to die for. Many of the designs are straight up distracting and annoying. Only in the darker low contrast colors does it look cool and viewable. However, this limited edition, is awesome in person. It's a unique piece, that could easily be repped, but won't. And as opposed to the same old crap with diff names in the dial this is actually unique and everyday wear. Official- doesn't do in person justice www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A3LNx_06sw&feature=youtube_gdata_player Been wanting to write up my observations but have gotten totally swamped.

If your gonna build a micro rotor, then use it - yes that's. Micro rotor on the dial!!! Just discovered these guys, watches are bad ass

Anyone swapped crystals from the 2 "factories" on basically identical models? I wanna swap my AR'd one.
-
Well it was in Jamaica And it was pretty big and there were 4 of them one on each side.

I don't care what it is, I'm broker than broke. Literally But the head person in charge, for lack of a better term, speaks my language and she needs someone like me in the office. I'm pretty sure she is workin it for me to get as much as she can. She knows I'm actually "worth" more based on my resume. But, we both agree, we are driven by things other than $$ I don't think I could have drawn up a better scenario.

That is not a finite concept its relative. Some people think Double AR on panerai is an issue, i think not having it is an issue The lower your expectations the easier it is to satisfy them - that is a constant in all things life has -

I think the issue underlying your frustration is the realization that perfection will never be achieved - rep or gen Screws fall out - NOTE always check screws they often are loose, that is standard operating procedure its a hobby, by definition, it means there is always work to be done. It never ends. If you stop enjoying it, take a break - most of us do. A few months and you will be back again. If you fly model planes, they crash and you fix them. If you play music you get new guitars and tweak your sound. IF you collect watches you buy, change straps upgrade, sell, trade buy new. Don't buy cheap stuff 1:1 is not 1:1 don't build up the expectations. they are just watches its just $$. there are no guarontees in life your brand new HDTV could blow up (or just get fried) some jackass can scratch your new beamer - such is life Many times we have discussed the topic of a perfect collection : ) when is enough enough and the answer is always, a perfect collection is one that is changing with your tastes and mood. -
Steinhart Watches - What's your Opinion of them?
fotoman replied to sgtguk's topic in General Discussion
2 thoughts, 1, experimenting is fun, but expensive. If you mean you personally go for it, if you mean you, pay for it, I recommend getting your feet wet before diving into the deep end. You may learn something about your tastes first. 2. I want to be positive, but seriously, I know to much. If I didn't have a kid, I'd take off to the vast wasteland in Australia and drink beer. The worst are charities. Most are just there to pay the salaries of the employees. I don't give $$ to [censored]. I did however recently cook a meal for a homeless dude. To be honest I couldn't figure out if it was a man or woman. But he was sleeping near the building with my office. -

fotoman replied to sgtguk's topic in General Discussion
Good points all. My opinion in life is everything is a scam until you prove to me it's not. I only think that because, under the hood, my domain, you learn that, pretty much everything is a scam. -
And I have a job interview tomorrow. This could be the return of things going well

upon recount - we got in !!!! Competition continues in March, Stay Tuned.

Steinhart Watches - What's your Opinion of them?
fotoman replied to sgtguk's topic in General Discussion
Ok, I need to be less brief and more specific. First, note on the following, this is just my observation research and opinion, I'm not an expert on these subjects. Note 2 these discussions are some of the best info as it gets hashed out Ok. What I was trying to say 1. From what I read, the Christopher ward watches are produced by the same (swiss?) subcontractor that also produces fossile, and a dozen other brands. I'm not saying they are owned by fossil. We have to get real, most watch brands are either subbed out for production or use a mass market parts base eta for ex.... Only a handful of brands (read expensive) have their own corporately owned and vertically integrated brand, design, manufacture corporation. It just doesn't make business sense to make a start up OR what has happened in the last 20 yrs, purchase rights to an existing but dead brand (panerai for ex) and turn it into a luxury brand. Or like swatch group buy several brands, produce essentially the same watch across brands at different prices. Like, cars used to be. For every ford model there was a Chrysler or whatever same car, same chassis different suspension, engine and in cabin decor. As Christopher ward sells many sub 1k watches there is way they own their own operation. Most likely it's a corporate entity that does design, licensing of retail outlets, and marketing. They would then sub out actual manufacturing and probably logistics and order fulfillment. That's all I was saying. Note those comments were on the c ward forum. I have to believe if they were inaccurate they would not be permitted to stand. It's a tacit or passive approval. If I were Rolex and some idiot said, rolex's are made by Chinese slaves, I'd kill the thread or correct and close it. IMHO Bremont - price wise in the breitling range, 5-15k on average. The reason I interjected them into the discussion was because ward is a UK co and I said if you want to see a real uk brand - bremont I have no intel on them other than their specs are so crazy specialized they are not likely simply farmed out to your average shop. Maybe some models are. Steinhart - I was thinking of a different but similarly named brand that was in the range of invicta. -
