  1. agree, the expanse of crystal at the front makes the watch look bigger than one that has the external bezel. That said I have the gen split minute which is a 44mm, the same as the CD, but it doesn't have the additional hour chapter ring around the very edge, consequently it appears smaller than the CD My rep Breitling SOH looks HUGE next to nearly every other watch including my rep Pam 187 which at 47mm is 1mm bigger..think it's something to do with the lack of clutter breaking up the visual continuity of the lines...or something....
  2. not my cup o tea, but the movement and rotor visible through the back look rather well done... Is this a fantasy watch, or does a gen exist ?
  3. the numbers on the old sandwhich might be a little fatter, but proportionally, they look closer to gen to me...looking at the comparo photo between the 2 reps and the gen, the inner rehaut engraving hasn't changed, you can see that the "x" stars to wander out past the 2 oclock hour marker instead of aligning exactly to it
  4. http://cgi.ebay.com/IWC-Spitfire-Automatic...A1%7C240%3A1318 the only full frontal pic has the date font obscured, the movement looks like an asian 7750 with the blue painted screws and the chrono hand look to be the same length as the running seconds....
  5. yup what he said ^^^^ here's my thread on Ruby Vs Angus Cousteaus...his is a Ruby's...same serial, same greyer subdials with more obvious ring pattern, tall dashes instead of dots on the bezel, rounded day/date font..... I have that same box, warranty credit card and the book that explains the warranty from Angus for about $40...the bit that's missing is the watch specific instructions...and the correct large presentation box and the hardbacked Cousteau photo book that you'd expect with the gen... the sticker on the outside of the white box ( wrong size and placement, but if you have a label maker, why not ) and the dealer name show that someone's put a bit of extra love into this deception...I emailed the seller politely asking if they were aware, but no reply and the auction is still up ...
  6. http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-IWC-COUSTEAU-DIVE...id=p3286.c0.m14 nice sticker on the outside of the box..but the dots on the inner (not very well working) bezel are the wrong shape and the serial # 3179487is curiously identical to the one I got from Ruby...wow..... reported....
  7. poor rep ? more like a cheeky p i s s take i'd say... thanks for the heads up, I'll steer clear
  8. ok , so you're all saying that the subdial in the picture at "9", that only goes up to 30, is the seconds counter ? And the lowered subdial at "12" that goes all the way up to 60 is, in fact, not the seconds counter, but something else ? Am I reading that right ? Now, I'll be the first to admit that I know bugger all about the ROO, but looking at the unquestionably "secs at 9" 7750 on my wrist at this moment, the sub dial at 9 is contentedly counting away the seconds, on a dial that in fact goes up to "60" and not the twice as efficient "30" ...so you see how I might be confused by your assertions
  9. erm...the running seconds looks to be pretty much between the "11" and the "1" on the pics I'm looking at....
  10. looking at this on Ruby's site, the price seems right and I can't see anything different from the ones that are in the $568 zone from other dealers...the date window is black, the secs are at 12 and a bit lower...am i missing something ? cheers !
  11. i have a V1 and a V2, i don't mind the extra lume on the V2 as the dial printing is a bit whiter and crisper and the subdials are nicely recessed..BUT....a bigger problem for me is the hands, the minute hand is too short, and both it and the second hand don't have the signature bent tips...
  12. nice ! But i like the one on the right best...
  13. there's socaltimers and supermirrors, they both have forums in the dealer section over on repgeek....Sead at supermirrors has a good reputation
  14. So I find myself in the oddly fortunate position of having a couple of gen IWC's kicking around at the mo...I've had a couple of the rep 06 cousteau's and they really sold me on the styling.... I had my heart set on a Split Minute Aquatimer and found one on ebay that had "make an offer" on it. So I did, but didn't get it then i bid on a bnib stainless Aquatimer with a bracelet and a rubber strap...which I won... So then of course the guy with the Split Minute comes back at me with a great offer so.....I'm only going to keep one of them and I don't know which here's a bunch of fairly average pics.... both of them .... the "Slevin" very elegant for a sports watch, the indices sparkle expensively and it feels much dressier than the Split. But...could I just get this as a rep and feel 95% as happy ? ( and many $$$ better off ?) The rep looks really good, nice case, well executed bracelet and an excellent dial... Well, the mechanical quality of this feels waaaaaay way above that of the Cousteau, The chrono pushers are crisp, everything lines up perfectly, the inner bezel clicks round with crispness, as I suppose they all should do. Then there's the way the lume is applied next to the indices, neat little rectangles, whereas on the rep, it's rather blobby looking, but have a lume job and sub in some eta datewheels from Cousins and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.... the split minute... this 2 mm bigger and a fair bit thicker than the slevin, it' about the same size as the Cousteau. the finish is very fine blasted titanium. it's very grey, much darker in person then it appears in the pics here it is next to my SMP ti chrono for size comparison. I hope the ti finish is better than that of the Omega, which gets scratched to crap by the merest featheriest brush of a baby bunnies tail... not inpressed by that. At all. Here it is showing the split minute feature (the 1/2 yellow hand at 9 minutes) there's a rocker switch at 7 that locks a secondary minute hand, normally hidden behind the main minute hand, in place, giving a very easy to read, elapsed minute count. Press the "off" side of he rocker and it disappears back behind the main minute hand. Now this is clearly a very sporting watch, only slightly more elegant than strapping a short length of 2X4 to ones wrist. But it does look rather balls out good. The dark grey, black and white with the pop of vivid yellow looks as cool as something you'd use in a metaphor. And the snobby part of me is quite happy that it's not been repped (yet). but I'm torn...classic elegance or throbbing utility ?? which to keep, which to say good by to ? a couple of quick wristies (which actually means something rude where I come from) Both have all the boxes and papers and bracelet tools, but the Split comes in an extra stupidly lovely box with a well tasty hardbacked instruction manual... what say y' all? oh and if anyone ones a pic of something specific, let me know...
  15. Uhhh...some of them are... and nearly all are better than most reps....
  16. I'll post more detailed picks in a separate post later...
  17. hi, I got an 06 from Ruby (nice replica) and another from Angus (Puretime), there's a comparison posted here somewhere...ah here ya go but in a nutshell: Both dials are the same base color, it is a very blue black. Ruby's had nicer subdials and much better aligned indices. Angus's had a more accurate day/date font and (very faint) lume on the inner bezel, whereas Rubies did not. Angus's strap was a very grey shade of blue and very stiff, Ruby's was very dark blue and is more accurate to gen in feel ( and I'm now the proud owner of not one, but 2 gen aquatimers, a Slevin and a Split Minute...pics to follow ). Angus's had a slightly better mechanical feel in the chrono dept, Rubies was a good bit cheaper esp. if you figure in shipping...
  18. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=230294393487 "Unfortunately I lost the display box and paperwork in the last house move which is why I've set a low reserve" reported....
  19. maybe it's a superrep of the incredibly rare, seldom seen 5003 ......
  20. er, well i guess that was a short wait...what's it been, 10 days ? http://www.puretimewatch.com/index.php?productID=491 I know it's still a 5002, but, seems like rather bad form to even put out the V1 when this was so close behind....
  21. cool, but should it not be a Walther P99 with the Omega, PPK with Rolex or one of these gems:
  22. I have a masters in civil engineering and a doctorate in theology, but I follow my one true passion.... ironically, I work for a large Beaverton based corporation that is forever trying to stamp out Chinese made "replicas" of it's products.... Rhymes with "bikee"
  23. I didn't like the chrono version, i much preferred the simple looks of the regular SOH...until now ! Your photos are making me rethink my own brain and that can't possibly end well..... it looks spot on to the gen a super duper rep ?
