I had been watching a Vibrograf timer on ebay, and whilst I didn't really need it,(as I already have a B200a), I thought I would place a snipe on it for interest. It's an older model 390, but supposedly working. Just see I won it for $20.50 As it happens, it is in Sydney, (1000kms from here) and it is pickup only. Just rang a mate who is down there, who is coming home on Monday. He tells me he is 5 minutes drive from the seller, and will collect tomorrow. So not only a cheap tester, but personal courier service as well. Hope it is a goer! Ya win some......sometimes! Offshore

Gotcha! Polywatch will certainly do the job on acrylic. O/S

Hmmmm, I've only had joy with Polywatch on Acrylic crystals. Works just great on them. Sure you have a glass crystal? Offshore

Thought I'd bake him a cake. (Click to supersize) I know!, the fonts are off. But the lume looks sweet! Didn't have time to get it to the master in Canada!

Am I correct in saying that this has been reported, specifically on this watch, a few times previously? If so, it may be that the selection of crystal size, to marry into the case, is where the real issue lies. We know that there are many issues in the manufacturing process, so any poor engineering, in tolerances, and selection of a suitable crystal, could create this situation. My guess is that the process may be back to front..ie The manufacturer selected a crystal which was close in general specs to the Omega one, and then built a case around the crystal. So any marginal mistake in tolerance could easily lead to what we are seeing here. I could be way of line on this, but somehow feel it is a plausible scenario. Which, if correct, means it will continue to be a problem, as it isn't a crystal problem, but an ill fitting case. My $0.02c FWIW. Offshore

Prophetic words indeed Freddy! I don't think there is so much incredible about what transpired yesterday, except some truly amazing coincidences. When I saw Brightight chasing Seiko bits, I thought I may be able to help a bit, as I have a few contacts. (Normally I don't make a habit of posting PMs' BTW, but will post here some bits of what I told Brightight yesterday as this is a story of unbelievable coincidence) So the watch gods were certainly looking down, when they delivered the parts, or in this case a complete working watch, within just a few hours of a request for parts going out. Can only wish all my parts searches were this easy and eventful. It was obviously meant to be, so now this little Japanese born, Aussie raised treasure, will find a new loving and caring family in England. I suspect Bt will interbreed the two cousins, to come up with a more perfect specimen! (And have a bunch of replacement parts for its ongoing health!) He has said it is to become an heirloom for his boy, so it certainly will have a great history, and accompanying story to be told over the years. And I am just happy to be of service to this great RWG community. Offshore

Dear Admin, I know you are busy!

Firstly, Try using your email address, and use the forgotten password link, to have a new PW issued. If that doesn't work, then there is a problem with your email addy. For all those who have logged in and come back to the login page....just press "cancel" Works for me! Offshore -
Col is talking about me, Brightlight. Give me a PM with the Model and case numbers, which are stamped on the caseback. And let me know what parts you are chasing. I have been doing quite a few Seiko restorations, and have developed some contacts for both aftermarket, and obsolete genuine parts. You would be surprised what is laying around on some AD's and repairers shelves. I would be reasonably confident the crystal can be found, either as a gen or as aftermarket. In fact I have a fairly extensive range on my shelf now. Offshore

Do you know what glue was used, or is this how it came from the factory? Some glues can be literally "scratched" away (very carefully), eg GS Hypo cement. Sometimes Rodico may lift it away, although it is more likely to lift out the markers! There have been reports of using a bubbling denture cleaner on dials to clean them, although I think this may be more for ceramic style dials. Any dial which is printed, and has a paper base, would be affected by immersion in water. In a lot of cases a solvent may be needed (such as Acetone), and this can have disastrous consequences. Think solvent use, as only a final solution, when all else fails, and knowing you can source a replacement if needed. Cleaning and "redialing" is a grey area, with no clear set of rules. Offshore

I would advise Seiko head office. I'm sure they would have an alternate view Offshore

@paneristi, All sapphire is synthetic, so there is not "fake" sapphire. It is sapphire, or it is mineral, (or it is one of the composites, like "Saphlex" from Seiko.) If there is ever a problem with sapphire "exploding", it is more likely due to incorrect selection of the correct size glass, than a flawed product. If the glass is not correctly specified for the case, then problems may occur. Offshore

Great post Gio! Were the pusher seals on the SMP fitted with O Rings, and only required greasing, or did you have to add/modify? A little point re the Deep Sea case back. Bergeon do put out a caseback tool which will work on it. It is the 5338 2F, which is a T bar, with a range of interchangeable tips, including fluted for Rolex. It is adjustable to varying diameters. Unfortunately they are as dear as poison to buy retail... I was fortunate enough to score one in a "Job lot" I picked up! A wonderful tool, but obviously a choice normally, only for the VERY serious watch maker. We will let this run for a while in GD, so all can see it and comment, but definetly sticky material here! Thanks for the input. Offshore. PS Do I recognise that Presidential?

In fact I think that whatever squabble has taken place really has no place here. We have enough issues in our own home, without getting involved in a domestic from elsewhere. So for the benefit of all. CLOSED
