Finally a shot of my small & modest collection...
longshot replied to TwoTone's topic in My Collection
I really don't know. I asked once if an ETA could be dropped in it, but didn't get a firm answer either. Glad you like it! I waiting on a white Aquatimer that might be here today -

Vintage Omegas Replicas Have To Be Made!!
longshot replied to marrickvilleboy's topic in The Omega Area
I would soooooooooooooo be all over an SM300 rep -
I've decided I don'y really need a Sub as I'm pretty happy with my TW/Best SD. But ever since another member pointed ouit that the 12:00 marker does not line up with the minute track it's been bugging me I was also told that this is very common with Taiwan dials? Does anyone have any ideas for a source for a better dial I can drop in (it's ETA of course) and maybe a better/more accurate insert that will fit?? Thanks in advance for any help!

I ended up getting a Fiddy I bought for a friend (from Joshua) back so I'm giving it a try. I originally thought they were too big, but now maybe not

I took my GMT II in to a local watch guy today for the first time ever to see hisreaction and have a liittle work done. He was blown away by the reps in my watch box. He is fairly young and Russian and does work on the odd Rolex/Omega etc. But did not have a problem at all in working on the rep once he took the back off and saw the ETA. He's installing a Swiss red/black insert to replace the back and cleaning and oiling the dry movement and said he will replace any gaskets necessary and tighten up the bezel and polish the inside of the crystal and make sure the cyclops is aligned. Pretty good price too! But he was must impressed with the vintage Seiko 6309 and 6105 divers in my watch box

Joe I’m not buying in to the drama. But I’ve sent you 2-3 emails and 2-3 PM’s from dfferent boards explaining that I’ve decided to not mod the No-Date Sub and asking you to just send it back and offering to pay postage. No replies. If you send me your Paypal ID and how much you want for Priority mail I’ll Paypal asap
-
I do not want to pile on, but what about those who sent in pre-payment with their watches? I didn't as I was willing to let Joe tell me what he thought the Sub needed and pay him then, but at this point if Joe had my watch and my money I would be worried.

Not that's funny!!!!

I agree totally with Doc... I called Joe about modding my no-date Sub April 7th and he said to go ahead and send it right away. So I did and it arrived April 10th. I waited thru all the posts and all the flaming and figured I would hear from him when I did. But in the meantime I bought an SD and Joshua came out with his 'Ultimate Subs' and I've decided to sell the no-date and possibly the SD and get a re-worked modern Sub from Joshua. So I emailed Joe and explained I'd like my watch back and even offered to Paypal him $$ for Priority Mail (I realize he has not been working and money may be tight) and told him he could keep the spare non-SEL Sub bracelet with one stuck link that I sent in with the Sub for parts. Then last night I got the same self aggrandizing email that some others have probably gotten and a promise to call me Thursday. In the email he bashed The Zigmeister and Palp and claimed that they were hacks and had stolen everything from him and he would not post any more 'how to' articles as all they do is rip him off. That seems strange to me as (AFAIK) The Zigmeister is a true watchmaker and Joe has to send his watches out for movement services? Nothing turns me off more than someone flaming another craftsman. That's the quickest way to lose my business :yucky: Now I hear about this $25 crap? What a scam. You have people send in watches, then you just sit on em, then you ransom them for $25 to get them back when Priority Mail is $4.05. $20 profit for doing nothing times 100 watches If I have to I'll pay Priority to get my watch back but I won't be happy about it. For $25 I'll call the Postal Inspectors...

A agree on the AR coating, if it gets a couple scratches in it I may attack it with Flitz and remove the AR! My biggest issue is the flimsy feel of the crown, but I think I read somewhere that it's possible to drop an ETA in it and with a little higher beat/smoother sweep and some tweaking by The Zigmeister I think it could be a very sweet rep. I have the same strap on mine that's posted for sale and it's far nicer than the rep strap BTW
-
I think this is the best you can do Asian automatic that does not hack or handwind, but mine is running great. Incorrect display back, date wheel is in the wrong place and too small and wrong shape, power reserve does not work and the crown does not screw down. But on a good strap it's pretty impressive on the wrist and that huge crystal does have AR coating! I'm 99% sure Joshua can get one in black or white dial.

In Search Of The Ultimate Replica.........

I bow to the god of whichever it is! -
It's certainly not inexpensive, but I'm going to sell my TW Best SD and my ETA No-Date Sub and get one http://perfect-clones.com/product_info.php...roducts_id=1045

You would have much better luck posting here, these guys are the experts: http://www.mwrforum.net/cgi-bin/mwr.pl Just don't mention reps!!!!!!
-
I'm far from an expert, but my experience with watches that have run that fast has been that they have somehow gotten magnetized. My watches that are fast when new and eventually settle down have never been more tha 15-20 seconds fast a day, not an hour? Most watchmakers have a machine that will de-magnetize a watch that's been magnetized and will do it pretty cheaply

The question for me is: Do I just want a watch to wear, or do I want a fun hobby? For a long time I have been into vintage Seiko dive watches. The act of finding a nice version of a particular model and then deciding to 'franken' it or to restore it to like new or to service it and do gaskets etc but to leave some 'wabi' was part of the fun. As was dealing with the experts who do the work, and the waiting, and the pleasure of getting that box back in the post and opening it up! Then starting the whole process again with a different model To me just having one nice gen watch is not really a hobby, rep collecting is! Here's two examples of the same watch after the whole hobby process

I offered to buy one for my wife when I got the men's 2892 silver dial version for myself. But she sticks with her G-Shocks But she makes up for it in ti bicycle parts and vet bills for her/our weird pets!

Congratulations! May 30th will be my 10th wedding anniversary, and my wife and I were together 7 years before marrying too

Why the factories would rep that and not a Sinn 656 I guess I'll never know

I agree on the 111h, but I am jonesing for a sandwich dial base now too, sigh

Seiko Diver Auto/Manual Wind that Hacks???
longshot replied to TJGladeRaider's topic in General Discussion
Bill I got mine used off the trading area at the Seiko/Citizen Forum but most everyone who buys new gets theirs from Katsu Higuchi or k-seiya. Prices are good the the service is superb. I've bought a number of Japan market only watches from both http://www.higuchi-inc.com/index-e.html http://kseiya.zoovy.com/ -

longshot replied to TJGladeRaider's topic in General Discussion
There is no Grand Seiko diver (or Credor or Prospex auto) and GS's are $3000US and up. But the Marine Master does use a non decorated version of the 8L movement used in some GS models and is an awesome watch. I sold my gen SMP auto to buy an MM and never looked back. IMHO it's a far better watch than a gen Sub at less than half the price!
