  1. i know a guy here in town who is both not very bright and a social retard besides. he owns two small coffee houses here and one in chico. he drives a 2004 M5 and a 2003 carrera. has a great house in a lovely old neighborhood that's just been completely remodeled with the best of everything and just built a 4 car garage in back that's completely finished and heated and air conditioned. oh, and picked up a 2003 M3 yesterday... i am in the wrong business!!!
  2. i'm sure the guy that owns starbucks is making a lot of money too ;p does not mean i don't enjoy stopping there for a mocha in the morning...
  3. morgan you can't really go wrong with josh, or andrew there has also been some talk about having a get together in SF sometime in jan or feb and that would be a great opportunity to meet fellow forumers and see lots and lots of reps
  4. wow, your hotel room pics are better than mine taken at home and set up!!! beautiful pam and that dial is stunning. either that or davidsen's new blue dial 082 will be my next pam
  5. uh, you have been here a month and you're yelling? plus you are wrong. period. most (99%+) people don't even notice what watch anyone is wearing. i have worn my fm conquistador into an ad that stocks 5-6 high end brands (but not fm) and taken it off and handed it around and no one knew. i also accidentally wore my iwc ingenieur into an ad that had started stocking iwc since my last visit (oops...) and on my wrist no one called it and they showed me a number of watches and gave me the 2006 iwc catalog. so the next time you feel the need" to make blanket statements filled with absolutes at the top of your lungs, maybe go with your first instinct instead and stay out of it. if you are so down on reps there are lots of nice gen forums to visit...
  6. i don't think you have done nearly enough reading here everyone is not a scammer. far from it. there are a number of great dealers here!!! first join (i don't think you can see the dealers sections until you are a member). then read the reviews of the models you are interested in. our own by-tor has produced magazine quality reviews of all the omega and the tag link chronos. and you can use the search function to find others opinions and photos of the same watches from the various dealers. then read the dealer feedback sections. then buy what you like. unfortunately there is no one in northern california except those craigslist rip off artists selling reps.
  7. i think we don't talk as much about rolex anymore because all the members who want one, have what they want and have for a while. i have a modded tw sub (gen insert and sel's and clasp and re-done cg's and drilled and fitted with gen springbars) and a GMII and even though by-tor hates the newest GMTII i wanted one that worked like a gen and had the correct hand stack and with a replacement insert it's of my favorites! we are a tiny fraction of the rep buyers and i'm betting that most anyone who gets the same reps we get from our dealers, who is not a WIS, is overjoyed with the product. i would love to see a really excellent seadweller and would buy one in a minute. but since they seem to have no problem selling the seadwellers and subs and daytonas etc they are making now i don't see it happening
  8. interestingly enough when tokunaga-san designed the 300m and 600 and 1000m meter seiko 'tuna can' professional divers he patented an 'l-shaped gasket' that prevents he from entering the case and eliminates the need for the valve all together of course seiko is also the watch company that has for decades produced the scuba master line of professional dive computers for real divers too! http://www.tokunaga.ne.jp/en/museum/list.html
  9. the sub has a nick on the 5:00 lug and another on the lower crown guard and another on the case side at 9:00. i would guess the case has been polished at some point. and those red stripes get put on all kinds of watches. i have bought used/serviced vintage chronos with that same stripe. but everything that would mark that sub as a rep screams gen... easy call really
  10. i have found myself doing just that a few times in my life and never regretted it. on december 4th a good friend and co-worker suddenly did not show up for work. not like her at all. sadly it turned out she had passed away in her sleep on that sunday night of an aneurysm. she would have turned 40 on december 16th and was very much looking forward to that milestone and the future... that actually started me thinking again. for most people work is just a matter of trading time for money. but you really never know how much time you will have, and are money and the things it buys really that valuable? i get decent satisfaction from my job but could probably make a lot more somewhere else. except i only work 37 hours a week and my job is a 15 minute walk or a 10 minute bike ride from home and i don't do overtime and when my day is over, my time is mine good luck Admin!
  11. i reported it to ebay a couple days ago and now the auction is gone
  12. there is much talk on some of the watch blogs about what swatch is doing with omega and the quality going downhill rapidly. the new rattrapante chrono movements in the deville and other chronos keep failing, bad clasps, hands falling off etc. i guess tissot also introduced the new nascar chrono with a tachy bezel designed to 'maybe' convert mph to kph (uh, i'm sure nascar fans really want to know how fast the cars are going in kilometers per hour???). no one noticed the problem until a clerk in a watch store did. so it has now been corrected, but the flash animation on tissot's site still shows the screwy bezel!
  13. I check out a number of watch blogs occasionally and while catching up today found this. An official Omega press release photo of the Railmaster chrono. Yup gens are always perfect and identical
  14. it's my hobby and i do it for fun and enjoy it if i had taken all the money i've spent on hunting for and buying and restoring vintage seiko's and on gens and on buying ad modding and trading and selling reps and put it in a mutual fund i would have more money. duh... i could say the same about knives and motorcycles and art too. it's not an investment, it's supposed to be fun!
  15. And Walt is another great guy to deal with
  16. damn you by-tor i've mailed josh, just need to decide on color. guess the pam082 will have to wait! and for new years, remember: safety third!!!
  17. I used to have a Chronissimo in a buffalo grain black with red stitching that could look awesome on a P.O. Even better with an Omega deployent
  18. Bob straps has made a few very thick 22X22mm black buffalo straps with orange stitching that would look awesome on an orange P.O. You can contact him thru his sub-forum here.
  19. Thanks for the input so far guys I do like orange a lot and have quite a few orange shirts and jackets and even some Puma Speed Cats in orange. But... I don't have very good color vision and just got my first laptop with an LCD screen and am having a hard time telling just how accurate the orange on the bezel of the newest P.O. is to the genuine? The 3rd gen P.O. I had seemed off quite a bit and if the bezel color is not right I might end up just going with black if I go for the P.O.?
  20. Well the new has worn off my davidsen 201a and it's time for a new toy and I'm stumped Here's what I have: Modern Sub ETA modded pretty thoroughly LV Noobmariner on the way from Neil/TTK Pam 036 one of the old good ones davidsen 5218.201a GMT II red/black ETA Breitling SS Seawolf ETA FM Conquistador 2892 IWC Ingy, new version Plus 10 or so gen Seiko's mostly vintage 6309 and 6105 divers and both 40th Anniv divers (ss and ti) and a 300m Marine master. And it would take to long to list all the reps I've had and sold I've narrowed it down (I think) to three: Pam 120 from Joshua Pros:cool blue dial i like bracelets don't have a 40mm pam least expensive asian moment crown and cg don't seem great date font and cyclops issue Pam 082 ti from davidsen Pros:cool blue dial again davidsen accuracy and quality great lume Cons: [*]probably the most expensive [*]very similar to the 036 [*]need to go strap shopping again Omega P.O. Ultimate 45mm Pros: [*]very accurate rep [*]eta [*]sapphire with ar [*]don't have an omega rep anymore [*]great bracelet [*]if i get orange i can sell the LV as my 'funky color diver' niche would be filled Cons: [*]had three planet oceans and sold them [*]can't decide which color [*]not sure it's not 'too' big The next rep after this will most likely be a Big Bang, but I'm willing to wait and hope the price drops as that much for a rep with a dodgy movement worries me? So any suggestion or input to push me over the edge
  21. i wish it's a 5218-201a from davidsen. so far the nicest pam rep i've owned (out of 9). the only flaw i've found is that, i think aged dial lume is maybe a bit too bright/yellow? not really sure but i might send it to someone for some aging at some point. here's a quick wrist shot
  22. actually i had a gen 656 on strap i sold it because it was just not 'that' special to buy a gen pam001! then decided the pam was not that special either i do agree; i get 95% or more of the enjoyment i got out of my pam001 from my 036 or davidsen 5218-201a for 10% of the price but i still think the most popular reps are of watches in the $1500 to $4000 max range. most people (at least those who know what they are **grin**) can pull them off. the only rep i ever worry about carrying off is the fm conquistador 2892, and it's such a good rep it should be the easiest to pull off!!! but i still really believe that a sinn 656 or U1 or 756 rep would be a great seller.
  23. surprisingly they are really good pets! they are naturally a social animal and will bond with you. they are also very clean animals and they can be potty trained and trained to come when you call. ruby (and her predecessors...) have ridden with my ex on centuries and other long bike rides and she often in-line skates with ruby on her shoulder the only downside is you do get attached to them and they only live 2-3 years
  24. Uh, it's on the wrong wrist? As in not mine
  25. Woo-hoo Now I just need to decide what I want done first! Have a happy and safe New Years Rob and thanks for your awesome work this year and your contributions to the forum
