  1. me too, since yesterday afternoon?
  2. wow... someone is seriously getting screwed on that one. but the seller has only three feedbacks; selling psychedelic mushrooms and buying a cheap straight razor. and hidden bidder id's, shill city anyone who bids on that deserves what they get i suppose.
  3. i'm reasonably sure that artisan is the company that re-plated a rare seiko 6138 chrono for one friend and a bulova accutron for another and i can say the results were stunning the seiko in particular came out awesome.
  4. that's an omega ploprof. one of the coolest and most iconic dive watches ever made. i had one once the red button is not an he valve. it unlocks the dive bezel so it can be turned. this prevents it from turning unintentionally. the ploprof does not need an he valve. it's that well built. the crystal actually screws into the ss case machined from a sold block of steel here's a cool review: http://www.geardiary.com/2007/01/18/the-om...e-watch-review/
  5. rob when i took my 5218-201 out to put it on friday night the crown was no longer attached to the stem and just spins loose, held on by the CG. i'm guessing i should be contacting david san about a new crown?
  6. when i saw them in sf and berkley in 1975 and 1976 they were a hair band... of course i had much more hair then too
  7. 'cause you are too busy writing reviews and listening to some obscure hair band
  8. ditto a great guy and an asset to the forum!
  9. i am almost ready to conclude i was never meant to own a 5218 it took three tries and a couple months to finally get a good one from davidsen. the one i have runs a but fast but didn't have any of the other qc issues and the 5201 and 036 are my favorite pams. then last night i took it out of my watch box to put it on and noticed the crown just spun? it looks like it's no longer attached to the stem and if i took the crown guard off it would just fall off. the crown on this one never did have as good a feel as my 036 but it did wind and set ok. my question is; how hard is it to re-attach it? while i am mechanical i honestly leave a lot to be desired in the manual dexterity and vision departments i am assuming it just screws on to the stem (reverse thread?) and if that's all it is i could probably do it myself. if it's more than that i do have a local watchmaker who will work on reps but he is closed weekends, and across town and dropping it off would eat up an entire lunch hour. any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated
  10. i suppose i'm just one of those people who never got klink. frankly i never cared to. don't get me wrong, i like strange. i've gone to burningman for 10 years. my friends are artists and fire performers and tech geeks and as many live in warehouses and live work lofts and on houseboats as live in homes. but they are cool/fun strange. klink is just pointless. his posts are gibberish and add nothing in the way of heat or light to any discussion. i am probably closer to a buddhist in my beliefs then anything else and can assure you that; incomprehensible is not zen, it's just incomprehensible there is more good information and contribution to the forums in pug's signature than in the sum total of all of klink's posts... i've been a paid member of the darkside since i discovered it but because of klink and s few others probably only visit once or twice a week.
  11. thanks rob!! i'm really tempted by the 'cheap' steelfish and the movement was an issue with me. i've had a few watches from zeno and citizen with miyota movements and been very happy with them
  12. early seiko kinetics had very very short power reserves (as low as 24 hours) and unreliable capacitors. but not even the new ones have i week power reserves
  13. kent does awesome work. but i have no idea how he feels about reps. some will work on them, some won't
  14. I've been really wanting something new to hold me over till chinese new years is over. i have a nice eta red/black gmt master II and like it a lot i but i also really like the way rolex gmt's look on a bond nato strap. so when this one popped up for $75 shipped from that new dealer on the darkside i figured i would give it a try. it's an asian auto and i expect that the gmt hand will simply follow the hour hand, but since that's how i set my real gmt watches anyway that's no big deal. it's also just a mineral glass crystal instead of sapphire (or is acrylic correct?). plus the watch is in the us and the seller says it will ship tuesday so i should have it by thursday. btw, this is not the first time i've ever bought a watch just because i have the perfect strap for it... thought i would share some pics here and let the those who know more about rolex than me (that would be about everyone ) pick it apart
  15. what's the use of my having 15 divers watches i hate swimming and oceans and rivers and am not even particularly fond of creeks, pools or hot tubs...
  16. that rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. i'll bite i bought this from a modder and this is what was supposedly done to it. i can't verify any of it. but i am happy with the watch and it does get a surprising amount of wrist time. of course i've only been waiting 5 months for the LV noob i ordered from neil to keep it company. but that's another story ETA 2836 Swiss newest 1:1 case fully polished bezel OEM bezel insert correct crown guards modded 3 step satin finished 93250 bracelet hollow midlinks 3pc fused SEL's like OEM 93250 clasp OEM spring bars perfect 2.5X date mag sapphire crystal aligned date wheel and mag perfect dial w/ awesome lume re-sealed and lubed w/ Teflon grease waterproof for swimming (tested to 5M)
  18. snow dog??? where did that come from btw, in case any of you guys don't know mr 'powder puppy' is a very talented custom knifemaker
  19. joshua told me just after march 1st. expect pricing similar to the new steelfish and bce etc. he did say the movement is fully decorated just like the gen, not just the bits you can see and the quality should be equal to the new higher end reps even the strap is scented like the gen i'm waiting too!
  20. i'm most likely in i need to be in sf that weekend for a burningman even anyway so... a bunch of the seiko guys and the dive wach lagoon guys and some knife forum crossovers all got together last sping at a place in sf called the '21st amendment'. beer was good and the food was surprisingly good for a brew pub and they have an upstairs loft in the back that they let us use so leaving lot's of watches and knives laying about was not a worry!
  21. my experience has been that small independent watchmakers are more than willing to service eta reps between quartz watches and mall kiosks full of ham handed teenagers installing batteries and straps they generally are happy to have the work. watchmaker/jewelers in very nice areas that possibly sell higher end brands (new or used) are a totally different story. the secret seems to be talking to them, letting them know you are in to mechanical watches and appreciate what a watchmaker does and that there is the potential for repeat business...
  22. WOW!!! so if i ever decide to build a teeny tiny bicycle... thanks for sharing rob!
  23. what an idiot it's not even a really good rep and he did not even put it on a good strap???? sigh...
  24. he ended it early, then re-listed it with no movement pic... a**hole
  25. are the end links the same? if so i'll just see if i can get a speedy bracelet from joshua
