I wouldn't wear any of those, but if I had to choose i'm with pug on this one. IWC. Simple understated and a nice every day watch. Sounds like your taste if you think the EVO is to brash for you.
Anywhere on 5th ave there will be guys carrying briefcases or watch cases full of reps. Sometimes they set the cases on top of a cardboard box. They see a cop, they close it up and they're gone in the blink of an eye. They mostly have junk for tourists. $15 to $50 and you can haggle. The knock off mecca in NYC is Canal St. Lots of watches, louis V. and gucci. Sometimes you can ask them for the good stuff and they will show a few high end pieces, but these are way over priced. You will have no problem filling up a shopping bag with $20 crap.
I've had one watch stolen by a girl about 10 years ago. Bring her home from the bar, next morning she leaves and a couple hours later I realize my Piaget is gone too. Dumb [censored] stole a $30 canal st knock off. Love to see the look on her face at the pawn shop.
Found this link while browsing. The new home theater on the wrist. They also have a gps watch and some other cool goodies.
Tech Watches
Who will be the first to buy one?
Most use blurry pictures taken from ebay. They start out with a hockey puck and a vice. Then file down solid steel to the desired shape. Silicone and epoxy to assemble the finished parts and a little mop and glo for the perfect shine.
It all depends on the alloy and mixture they use. Some white gold even has a yellow tinge to it. Rolex has a patented system and mixes all of their gold themselves. Their white gold comes out flawless, shiny and white. They even have a special process for Rose gold. The best on the market.
These prices aren't definate. Many of the auctions have several days left. On no reserve auctions alot of bidding goes on in the final seconds driving up the price. Sellers like this also use software to end the auction if it doesn't reach their price. In asia alot of luxury brands are less expensive. Most of them start out as grey market and get pawned or traded. This guy is legit.
I don't understand this comment. The SS on my daytonas is great quality. Unless you are talking about the 116519 Which is supposed to be white gold. The plating may make it look worse if it is not done properly. Rolex uses a very special alloy of gold so their white gold always looks bright, like SS. The difference is negligible so the average layman wouldn't know the difference anyway. If you are so worried about it buy one that is supposed to be SS.
It isn't accurate anyway. Bond didn't have 007 on his watch in the movie. This whole thing is very Disneyesque. You don't see Rolex screwing up their watches do you? Not what you should expect from a high end watch. What's next, a Batman Panerai?
I would wait for the next generation. If they made such a good replica with sub par materials they are bound to have the "Ok this is the final ultimate ultimate version" in a month or two.
Then again if the girl in Oakland's avatar was selling a piece of crap that said polodex on the dial for $200 I would buy two. :smilie3:
You learn something new every day. I thought for sure he was talking about an Oysterquartz.
True, but only for the die hard collector. The Seiko kinetics act similiar to this movement although sometimes they jump several seconds at one time but never sweep smooth. Maybe take a seiko kinetic movement and put it in an oyster case, you have a nice tru beat rep.
I owned the opposite of this watch the Cartier chronoflex. This has an autoquartz movement that is quartz but sweeps like an automatic.
Funny how the quality of luxury brands differs so much between items. The Birkin bags can go for $20,000 and a nice men's Hermes shirt is well over $1,000. This watch retails for $1,295. Hermes needs to get their priorities straight. Even Armani has some high end watches available now, when a couple years ago you wouldn't catch me wearing one with my Armani suit.
