  2. TT -- Vancouver is one of my all-time favorite cities...and i live in NY...after one business trip i was hooked...took my wife there with frequent flyer points for a 4 day getaway years ago...great people, great food, great "entertainment", great value... enjoy - R
  3. nice work, Murph - in moderating one of the forums hotter topics...but totally agree with you - the intent of the thread is recommendations on "good" or "best" quartz models...and as we alllllllll know - these are subjective words... well done and thanks for keeping this on track... R-
  4. Zig - thanks...as i figured... Once again, thanks for teaching us how to fish!... R-
  5. hey - the value of this community is its diversity...everyone's opinion is different, everyone's circumstances are different, everyone's "world" is different, everyone's taste is different... i proudly owned and wore AP, Ebel and Hublot quartz reps...in my "world", not a damn person i come in contact with knows anything about these brands...these are value reps in my collection - as i don't want to shell out higher dollars for ones that are automatic and replimanically more accurate...i wear them because i like their looks/style...i wear/own them because i want to "test drive" whether i like their look and feel...at the end of the day, i only need to "impress" me... i sold the AP and Hublot because i tired of them...no big loss...i sold the Ebel because i knew if i had the quartz one, i wouldn't be tempted to buy the 'panda' automatic i definitely want...i 'test-drove' these quartz models...the Ebel is one i want to upgrade, the others not...that's just one of my strategies - and it works for me... 6. agreed, Val... ...cmon guys - let's keep up this thread... @OSRep --> thanks, man!...this thread isn't about rareness, frankennness, repliamanicalness...it's about favorites...and those 2 you got are a really nice start to a collection...wear them well and thanks for sharing... R-
  7. Looks fantastic, Z...those indices are masterfully filled!... Zig, a couple others and I have discussed that one of the great things about this hobby is customization and the ability to make a watch unique!...The Blackbird is one of my most favorite pieces...So instead of the same old, same old - I thought how cool this would look with blue lume...Z did the same to my PAM Northpole 252...Creates a unique and cool piece... I wear my watches for me -- and am damn glad that some of my pieces have this terrific Z-touch!... Go for it guys!... R-
  8. murph - from the looks of by-tor's and silix's pix, i would say they are the same watches...you have to remember 2 things: 1) by-tor's pix are exceptional!... 2) dealer pix are generally horrible!... R-
  9. Looks great, Z!... can't wait to see it in person!!... great info and pix!... question - kinda off topic - some watches are said to have a large quantity of lume with multiple applications of superlume applied...does this increase luminosity or duration?... thanks!... R-
  10. Rima is an outstanding member of the forum...I posted a WTB for a rare watch that i've always loved...Rima responded with a generous offer...Prior to completing the transaction, pix of the watch and details were shared via email...Excellent timely communication and sales process...Watch was absolutely perfect - packed well and prompt shipment...I really value the relationship formed with Ri...

  15. nice work, Val...appreciate the assist with keeping this thread alive... R-
  16. hmmmm, thanks andreww...i'll have to hunt that down...
  17. great discussion, guys... ...the bezel on the CA is simpler and draws out the dial better, IMO...i like the Skyland, a lot...but find that grey skyland dial in my ti CA case looks really sharp... i WILL be putting the gen blue dial "asssembly" into the v1 ti CA case to see how i like it - and to take some pix...but i have to say, the hesitancy to keep it that way comes from exactly what was discussed - the grey Skyland dial in the ti case looks great - especially on dark leather, too...a unique, rugged look...and as A mentioned, who really is going to be able to know if the look is real or fantasy...so far, it sure gets a lot more compliments and notice than it did with the rep black CA dial... i actually discussed and am still considering finding someone with the talent and patience to deeply brush the polished ss CA case; marrying it with a deeply brushed Pro 2 bracelet...a killer looking combination - sort of like an Avenger Blackbird setup!...much less blingy brushed than polished... what do you think?!... R
  18. a change of pace...my Tourby 'Navigator' dial pilot watch...

  20. "honey...let's watch the figure skating tonight"... "but you don't like figure skating"... "yes, i know, dear...but you do"... "how nice of you...i love you"... "love you, too"...
  21. thanks, DL... but i'm finding that some of my swiss click loudly and some of my asian click softly...and vice versa...it's almost random... not worried about it really - but just wondering if it has something to do with components or whether it is related to the level of "service" in the movement...more a curiousity than an issue... R-
  22. There's NOTHING like going to the Olympics...if anyone ever has the chance to do so, don't miss it... I spent 2 days in Lake Placid in 1980 and it was a lifetime memory...I played hockey in college...My left wing lived in Lake Placid...As a resident, he had a special pass that allowed us to drive into the village - which was not open to anyone but local residents...Everyone else was bused in...A couple of us piled in a car and went - armed with limited cash and no tix...we were able to score hockey tix - seeing Canada play Russia and USA play W. Germany...we had an absolute blast... R-
  23. hey... just wondering if someone knows the answer to this question: why is it that some 6497 movements make a louder clicking sound when winding than others? i find there's no rhyme or reason as to eta, swinese or asian movements and whether the winding sound is loud, semi-loud, or whisper quiet...there's also a "smoothness" factor when you wind that is correlated to the sound... i have no movements - to my knowledge - that have been watchsmithed serviced, too...but i realize that each movement may be lubed differently...is it the lubrication?!... if you have a few 6497 movement watches - you probably know what i mean... i have (10) 6497 movement watches - and find the sound varies whether the movement is eta, swinese or asian... any insights would be appreciated... thanks - R
  24. this is all really cool info...and very helpful... gotta say - it sure would be nice if there was a way to create a list by pam model number of the various crown guard characteristics and good/better/best aftermarket crown guard options (LH, Seadbo, V, DSN, Angus, etc, etc...) i realize this is a lot of work for someone, but boy would it be handy for all those looking to mod...
