Is this a Vipmariner? (bought it off the streets in Kuala Lumpur)
cht replied to simzger's topic in The Rolex Area
+2 But did you guys notice how nicely those SEL's fit? And the pearl looks pretty good too! -
What I would do would depend on how much I paid for it and what movement is in it. You paid $250 for a $169 watch. I would be [censored]. Who did you buy it from? A nice and easy tell that it is a noob is the huge rolex crown on the glass. The euromariner's use a clark's crystal that has no such engraving. Look at the font on the bezel insert on yours compared to the euro...Those numbers are fatter than Rosie O'Donnell's fingers. Also look at how narrow the teeth on the coin bezel are on the noob compared to the euro. Then look at a gen. I would not be happy.
-
Sorry to disagree guys, but everything about that is noob. Especially the standard noob crown tube which would not accept a gen crown. Here is a euromariner tube. You can see how much wider it is. eurotimez also has a nice comparison between the two. This would be a nice brush up. http://www.rwg.cc/members/Euromariner-t806...hat+euromariner V2 euromariner tube and crown.

Very nice! can we get a movement shot?

watchmaker9 has a great sel oyster bracelet.

If you don't want to be ousted with the rep, the $500 wm9 is probably your best bet as far as subs go. It may sound like a lot in comparison to the noobmariner, but you are getting a great looking watch that looks like it is worth $5000, not $500. The noob doesn't quite pull that off. The noob is great, but near a gen...not so great. Also, consider getting a rep that no one has, prehaps a milgauss or gmt II with the pepsi bezel. This solves the problem of having aside by side comparison. This is where you want to be for bk's stuff. He is extremely knowledgeable on the modern subs. http://www.rwg.cc/members/BK-s-Watch-Garage-f196.html Here is wm9's site. http://www.watchmaker9.tv/ good luck and welcome to the site!

^^^agreed, use it to practice taking apart and putting back together. It looks like a $20 canal street rep. Good luck on your next purchase and welcome to the forum! I'm sure you will find some great two tones on here!

Also, it is missing the maxi minute hand. Agreed, a $100 noobmariner would be a nice step in the right direction. Pretty much all the sellers(collectors) offer them. Trustytime.com, pam111.com, etc

well, after FIGHTING to get a gen insert into the mariner with a slight recess, the problem BK noticed a LOOOOOOOOOONG time ago is very apparent. The clark's crystal that comes outfitted with the euro is obscenely to0 tall with the gen insert modded to fit. I read this a long time ago and didn't think it would be that noticable....wrong! So, does anyone know which clark's crystal eurotimez is using? So, with the gen insert in place and the retaining ring filed, what crystal should I get to reduce the height? The clark's 25-295-c has a 2.5mm height. The correct clarks for a sub 25-295-c2 has a 3.00 mm height. Any input would be great! thank so much in advance!

I don't think bling is wrong freddy.... I can understand about the situation you described, but i think it is HOW you wear your watch. I am confident that you can wear a daytona in jeans and a t shirt, but your attitude and demeanor will always influence how other people see you regardless of what you are wearing (including a watch) You seem to have the appreciation of these things more so than MANY others, so I feel confident as well that you would not look like you are trying to show off the watch. The attitude of the person in the situation you described may appear just as that...TRYING to show off. But, if your attitude shows you are NOT trying to show off, I think you can pull it off just fine and no one would be bothered. Personally, I like the idea of wearing a bling watch (such as a daytona) with a suit or at least with long sleeves. When it's time for short sleeves, I feel a tool watch compliments the style much better. But, we all have our own fashion sense and that's what helps make us unique in our admiration of style and our display in taste.

I would def look into buying a noob instead of trying to fix one of those up. They are (no offense ) pretty ugly! good luck!

^^^awesome! You lucked out, because my euro has a different tube where the thread is completely different from a gen or gen style tube. Also, my euro won't except a gen insert at all. It just falls out, it will have to be glued and milled as well. Anyways, yours is awesome! Pics came out great, mind sharing your camera setup?
-
^^^probably the case... My euro has been a disappointment from the day I opened it unfortunately...so the need to glue my insert doesn't surprise me. Other members have had superior quality tubes and crowns compared to my euro that were sent out in the same batch. Mine missed qc, maybe has something to do with all the problems... Though it would have been nice to get a euro where things worked as they should, I have learned a lot!
-
^^^^wow, nice useless post. Well, I tried to put a gen insert on my euro bezel and it does not come close to snapping in. It needs to be glued.
-
wow, looks great! couple questions if I may... did you have to tap the case to accept the gen tube? And, did your gen insert snap in? Did you sand down the gen insert to get it to sit properly? thanks and wear it well!
-
I have no concern with someone asking. I am not worried if they think the gen is a fake, or vice versa, especially if they are someone I don't know. I recently received an older gen 16610 that was my grandfather;s (loooong story!) and have been interested in replicating it ever since. I find it fun trying to make a similar watch, it's my hobby. I wear both and enjoy both for different reasons. No one else can tell the difference but me. I like my rep better because I helped build it. It was a lot of research (thanks rwg!) and help from people I met on this board. I enjoy their passion as well and sharing mine. I get inspired by their projects and find enjoyment in building a modded watch. (just the one ss sub at this moment!) The project is a representation of my time, knowledge, and passion. I have pride in it and that makes it enjoyable to me, and no one can change that no matter what they say or ask.

Looks great! Nice work bk! Was any polishing done to the bracelet? It looks great for a noob! Is it me, or is the cyclops off to the right too much?
-
Hey, That looks great Tribal! However, I'm not following you on your method. Are you saying to take the bezel insert, set it on the table, and flatten it a little with something? What are you grinding the insert with? Which edge, the inner one? Thanks!
-
Does anyone know if the the noob dial has gen specs on the date window? If so, I want one!
-
So, with a gen insert, sanding down the retaining ring should be enough to make the insert fit? But the gen bezel will not.... Is the only solution to purchase a gen retaining ring?
-
^^^Eurotimez claims QC on their products. I was however unfortunate and ended being one of the FEW who got a drop shipped junky euromariner.
-
here's the part you want to sand may I offer another possible solution? couldn't you just sand down the inner portion of the bezel insert that is touching the retaining ring? and anyone know the thickness of the clark crystal 295c2? The euromariner's clark crystal that it comes with is looking mighty tall as BK had pointed out a loooooooong time ago.

^^^^^very interesting viewpoint indeed! lmao, painting hq! If there was such a thing, you know I'd be down to help out!
