  1. Besides, higheoy, there's nothing wrong w/ the lughole position on the PT case. Here's a gen I saw last week Compares favorably w/ the PT, IMO!
  2. There's a good chance it won't work. In the past a gen or decent aftermarket 1680 dial wouldn't fit in an MBW case w/o some mods- dial is too big. Gen/aftermarket dial 26.5mm MBW 1680 dial 26.2mm Trim the dial or enlarge the case, neither is a decent option, IMO. Hands for a 1570 movt won't fit an eta. Go to Clark's Watch supply for 'tudor' hands for eta. They'll fit.
  3. Nice job on the MBW insert with Ofrei pearl, Shawn!
  4. Ok, uncased the movement and dial- looks like a nice Swiss eta to me- silver, fit and finish appears Swiss- running strong A gen crown (24-703)screws onto the tube w/ only a very slight gap at the base of the case- just like my gens. Dial is 26.40mm, opening in the case is 27.27mm I don't know what an MBW GWSD dial diameter is.... The HE valve is surface only- nothing on the inside of the case. The PT crystal is 28.01 ID, 30.03 OD PA462-67A G&S crystal- T-39 aftermarket, is 28mm ID and 30.28mm OD. This is a high dome replacement. Unfortunately I can't press it on because it's too tall for my Harbor Freight press- the dies need to be deeper. Also, this crystal is probably more appropriate for a DRSD, as I recall, GW's take a flatter crystal. But it looks like a gen/aftermarket crystal will fit. But it is interesting to note that there is a nylon gasket inside the tension ring- if you remove it, the tension ring swims around the crystal! It must reduce ID of the tension ring by a good mm. Now I've got to find a better crystal press!
  5. Seafoam, it's a given that the flat white pearl on an MBW insert isn't any good and I don't know if you can pop it out or not- my guess is you can't. Otherwise everyone would have already done it! The WO990 insert has possibilities- you could possibly put an Ofrei pearl in there and end up with a decent insert for a little over $50. Certainly worth a try. The other option might be to try to vintagize it with some paint or something... The PMWF insert at $65 + $7 s&h is a little pricey and $20 for the Ofrei pearl and you're up to $92- damn, if you could get a gen, it wouldn't cost that much! I saw a 5513 insert from Clark's the other day and I can't tell if it's an all acrylic pearl or not: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230429181301&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT This might be worth checking into. A shot of the back of your WO990 insert would be nice- looking for the pearl to go all the way thru the insert.
  6. Beautiful! And I'm w/ Red, another shot of the dial w/ the flat 'S'.
  7. Damn, the next oldest CN case! I've seen D320's that weren't very wokky and others that suck. Like I say, it's like trying to hit a moving target! And of course, not to open a can of worms, but I wonder if you got a swiss eta, or an asian clone. Heck, I wonder if the 2846-2 in my new GWSD from Puretime is a clone for that matter! Where to go? Well, what about a noobmariner GMT case and swap over the guts from Josh's watch- oh shoot, date window probably won't line up. Come to think of it, I've seen D320's w/ the date window too far right and some where it appears ok. But I tried to swap a sub dial and movt (a21j) from a D320 case into a noob this week and the DW was off- too far right! I guess Josh won't let you return the watch??? Heck, even a store credit would be better than a watch you're not gonna wear. Take another stab a choosing a watch w/ a no-wok rehaut.
  8. It would be impossible to get them to point straight up! You'd be installing the tube just so, then the crown would only screw so far onto the tube and like the whole friggin thing would leak cause you didn't tighten it enough! And like kbh says, "don't compress the o-ings!"
  9. OK, quick and dirty Chinese DRSD from Paul on left Puretime's GWSD on the right 6 and 9 markers on PT's are too long and narrow, other hour markers are too big, triangular marker at 12 seems too long also. 'L' in ROLEX is a tad too far left. Paul's crown is maybe a little too big, PT's is way too big Overall size of PT's seems better (and is slightly bigger) than Paul's. The chinese old DRSDs and GWSDs are just a little small sizewise (Paul, Andrew, Josh maybe) Next pic- with my Watchmaster 1680 on the left, PT's on the right. The 1680 has a gen insert- original crappy pearl! Also a gen T-127 which got pretty scratched one day at the shooting range. Hour markers look better, IMO. Size of the two watches is very close. I don't think PT's insert looks too bad next to my gen insert in the 1680- a little fatter font but it's really pretty good considering the other crap we get for 5513 inserts! The acid test will come in a few days when I see if I can swap in an aftermarket T-39 which I have laying around. I'll also measure the dial w/ my high dollar CN calipers to see if an MBW GWSD dial will fit.
  10. Well my GW arrived today! A few quick observations, yes the crown is too big but the case tube is fat also- gen crown might be an easy swap. Crown guards need trimming. Bezel insert looks ok- best pearl I've seen. My chinese $5 calipers say OD 36.4mm, ID 30.0mm on the insert. PMWF lists their replacement insert at 36.5 and 30.3, so I'm not too far off and it could be the chinese calipers- better set at home- $15 CN calipers w/ new battery! Case is around 38+mm wide- which matches my gen 1680. Bracelet and end pieces look good, sound tinny! Will have to oil/lubricate. Lug holes look good, will compare w/ gen tonite. And finally, the dial sucks, but since I can't handle a DRSD- too rich for me, I'll check diameter tonite and work on the MBW GWSD replacement. Also looking forward to uncasing the 2846-2 movement and checking out the crystal- I'm not keen on the domed shape- may try out a spare Ofrei T-39 if possible. Also, want to check for a working HE valve. I do like the DW and date window- looks good to me. Overall, I'm fairly pleased. I'm not sure the case is of the quality of the MBW, but it is an improvement over the old CN DRSD and at a great price w/ lots of neat extras 2846-2 Correct DW 93150/580 ends/fat springbars and good lugholes nice pearl/decent insert Pics tonite!
  11. If you ordered this watch from Josh http://www.perfect-hour.com/rlgs10001-master-blackred-bezel-swiss-28362-p-2552.html who is now perfect-hour.com, morphing from perfect clones, you might check the SN on the case- R863693- this is what's shown in the pic, this is the oldest CN cased SN out there. But typically not too wokky. Maybe they're using a different case now. The problem w/ the rep market is it's anything but static- it's changing all the time. But the only thing you can do is get back w/ Josh and tell him you're unhappy w/ the rehaut. I don't know if he can swap it out for a more correct case or not- they may not be available. Too bad you didn't order a GMTII from BK- with the noob case.
  12. I agree with highoey, you need to age the pearl so it looks the same age as the insert and the lume job. Otherwise it looks very nice.
  13. Mr. Slimeball can be a challenge, but luckily I've done ok w/ him lately. I actually like his 24-7030-0 tubes. I did fine with this guy for my $10 bracelet for my MKII Explorer bracelet http://cgi.ebay.com/20MM-OYSTER-BAND-BRACELET-FOR-ROLEX-MEN-EXPLORER-WATCH_W0QQitemZ350312165589QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item51903b70d5 I realize the numbers aren't right on the back, but it should work til you track down something better. here's my exploder w/ the CN bracelet I prefer a bracelet when I'm shittin and gittin.
  14. You might keep your eye on this bracelet: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-ROLEX-20mm-78360-Bracelet-1600-1016-1675-1655_W0QQitemZ280459788553QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item414cb4c109
  15. Here's my biggest pet peeve w/ Rolex TT's the damn gold doesn't wrap down the side of the SEL center links- a dead giveaway! Like ciborgman says, WM9 It used to be the noobmariners also had decent SEL center links.
  16. Well, they are out there because I ended up with one. But I don't know where it came from. It has nice hollow mid-links, but it does have a flip lock safety clasp with wetsuit extension, not the older and maybe more appropriate single clasp. I bought this watch from Paul (not Silix!) about 4-5 years ago, but it has a 93150 in the Silix pic w/ the 580 rep end links. http://www.silix-prime.com/rols145-p-1881.html The problem is bracelets are an after thought for the dealers- $5-10 or less just put on the watch as it goes out the door. Some like Chris at ETZ and Angus @ Puretime are paying a little more attention to bracelets these days, but mainly the 93150. Wholesaleoutlet990 might have the correct 580 ends- but they were out a few weeks ago. Not sure how good they are, I bought some but haven't used them yet.
  17. It's my understanding that the cases for the WM9V3 and WM9LV are the same and take the 2824-2 movement.
  18. Here's a 7924 for 27K Euros! I don't know what the diff is between a 7922 and a 7924, but it certainly looks like marc got a great deal on his! Hope you don't mind my comparing the two, marc.
  19. Thanks for the info, Dean. I guess that means the Ofrei illumines dot for $20 + s&h- cost of poker keeps going up!
  20. You can refer to that as the 'early fat font' bezel. It's still the best 5513 insert pearl we've seen to date. I priced up a 5513 insert from PMWF earlier this week- $65 + s&h- was it $7 or so and maybe a $14 pearl from Clark's- still around $86 total or so. A gen insert should be cheaper if you can find one! I paid $65 for one 4 years ago for my gen 1680.
  21. I'm with you on that freddy, I've always questioned Jose and Sister. But I was looking at the 390 movement, which would be correct for an early Tudor. And I didn't look at the dial much, other than that it is similar- the rose below Tudor. And what I liked about marc's 7922 is just the clean look of the dial and how great everything looked together. Granted it's too pristine and maybe not historically accurate, but it certainly makes for a fun piece- a great watch to wear around and see if you get any comments!
  22. I love your math, freddy! $400 for an MBW plus shipping- $20. w/ a Swiss eta- is it a 2846? Drill the lugholes! does it come w/ a hollow mid link bracelet? +$90 decent 580 end links- no notches? +$20 2mm springbars- +$10 Does the current adulterated MBW 1665 take anything? crystal? How's the bezel? Add a decent insert- $65 + s&h from PMWF and a pearl, another $20- over $90 Remember Cat's 1680? Crown and tube is a push- both need them, maybe the Puretime will take a gen crown w/o a new tube??? Trim the cg's same deal, both need it. I've figured a Puretime GWSD- $223 w/ shipping, and an MBW GWSD dial- $65+ $20 s&h. So an MBW could easily total over $600, I'm at $308 on the PT w/ an MBW GWSD. Oh, does the MBW come w/ a 2846?
  23. I ran across this 7928 looking for something else- 390 movement in it: http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-ROLEX-TUDOR-SUBMARINER-7928-AUTO-POINTED-GUARD_W0QQitemZ250569453161QQcmdZViewItemQQptZWristwatches?hash=item3a571a6e69
