  1. I can't say clean, but it is a 1570. No rust, etc. but really would take a watchmaker to examine it- something you can't do w/ a pic.
  2. Very nice, Marty! At the Houston GTG, one of the guys had a 6263 from Spin. I really liked it because of the 37mm case and assymetrical pushers- same set-up with the 7750. It certanly makes for a very nice and dependable watch. Looking good!
  3. I had the 3,6,9 Submariner dial in a cheap 5513 CN rep- came from Paul 3-4 years ago with a swiss eta for $169. Swapped out a better aftermarket 5513 dial because I could never figure out how to get rid of the greenish dial print- it was supposed to be gold. I still have the watch, movement runs fine. I have thought about putting it in an MBW 5513 case..... all it takes is more money.
  4. Let me see, was that River who won't ship to Texas? I ordered from him a few years ago, had it shipped to my sister in Mass. But I've had no problems, and yes, it looks like everything clears thru SF, CA.
  5. It is really tough figuring out all of the correct details- especially since Rolex keeps their cards so close to their chest! But I do know the T-16 fits the 5508 also. And the 5508 takes either the 1530 or the 1520 movt. The 1520 is readily available in the Air Kings. I agree with putting in a 24-602 crown and tube, it is much more readily available. Also, I think the bezel insert for the 5508 is the same size as the 5513, etc. Of course, the original inserts had different printing, but I've seen 5508's w/ the more modern inserts. The old ones aren't around, unless you go to Michael Young in HK, and those are aftermarket. Or pay an outrageous price on the bay or VFR.
  6. Nice pics and very nice watch. I certainly like the idea of buying the inexpensive rep first to see if you like it. I bought a watch a few months ago from Reg- it was a delightful transaction, smooth as silk. I was a little hesitant because he's in EU and I'm here in the states, but it wasn't a problem. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but I need to quit buying watches for a while!
  7. Very nice kin tama and kent2. I love those vintage Explorers- Magnifique!
  8. I thought the movement was the same, the 1030. Later 5508's and 5510's used the 1530. The cases are different between the two- can't remember, but maybe the 6536 is thicker. Diffferent Tropics- 6536 takes a T-17 and 6536-1 takes a T-16 Crown tube would be 6mm. The 6mm crown with the Brevet cross would be earlier. Basically it's a 24-600 crown and tube assembly (old!). Dials vary- but both were rated 100m=330ft, may or may not had Submariner on the dial??? The 6538 was rated to 200m=660ft. Since Rolex no longer services or supports these 50 year old models, parts is an issue- what else can you do but buy old parts or aftermarket to keep the watch together. And then there's the franken builders out there like us, competing for parts!
  9. 29.5mm ID maybe, 30.3mm OD From the Sternkruz catalog
  10. My notes show a PA462-67A from G-S Supplies fits a 1665- T-39. Don't know if it's flat or domed. www.gssupplies.com/ Don't know if a T-19 or T-21 would work- Sternkreuz has some dimensions that I found on Cousins website- XS 294-310 Round special Forms Plastic Topglass. Also might check Gary Clark over at Clark's and see if he could get you a flat T-39
  11. I like to think of it as: 1570- no date 1575- date 1575GMT- date w/ GMT hand All are decended from the 1530 which first appeared around 1957- followed by the 1565, 1520, etc. 1570 is a chronomter movt. as is the 1565, others typically aren't, but like the James Bond movie, w/ Rolex, 'Never say never!
  12. I ran across TMG's dial from Indonesia today: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...bayphotohosting DVS, what you have to realize is that all of these aftermarket dials have shortcomings and would never fool a WIS. So you pretty much just have to make a decision and go with it. Your dial isn't too bad, maybe TMG's is a little better, but there's not that much difference, IMO. An MBK dial should fit in a Yuki case, it's slightly smaller (c.26.5mm) than a gen dial (c.27mm) but shouldn't be a problem. Even tho I have an MBW red sub, the dial is not my favorite. But I can't fit a gen dial in an MBW, so I'm stuck.
  13. OK, here's a budget 1680: http://cgi.ebay.com/Free-Shipment-Submarin...%3A1%7C294%3A50 dial and hands from Yuki for $129 add a Yuki case for $400- he has them, just have to ask, maybe a crown and tube, trim the cg's, another $100 Rolex movt- $1000-1200 MBW 93150 and wholesaleoutlet990 580 ends. Around $100+ So for under $2K you've got a budget sub. But I'm kinda like freddy, I'm not sure it's worth it. Although now days a gen 1680 would probably run $4K. And the 1500 series date movts aren't my favorite, I prefer the quickset movts.
  14. Congratulations Stephane. You certainly are a Sub Cannibal, no doubt. Ironically, my first gen Sub was a 5.4million 1680 white w/ silver date wheel and pristine dial just like yours, but with a 93150/580 bracelet. Alas, I kept beating it up and scratching the crystal, so now I'm mostly wearing my 16800 w/ a late tritium dial that still glows- it's my 'beater' these days. Great write-up, its cool to see how people's tastes change.
  15. The case looks very nice, IMO. The crown guards could use a little inside trimming, but that's no big deal. Pearl looks decent- all acrylic. It'll be interesting to see what you have to do movement wise. We know that a 2824-2 approximates a 3135 and that a 2836-2 works in place of a 3035 in terms of crown/stem positioning. I'd love to know what works in place of a 1570(5). Good luck.
  16. Jared's still selling on TZ and VFR, watches that is. I also was told that he's 'watchcrusher' on ebay, buying used Rolexes for resale, I guess.
  17. I agree w/ ubi on this. Although Rolex claims 2.5x, the 1680 looks closer to 3x due to the distance of the cyclops from the datewheel. Old 1675's will also have a slightly larger date due to the taller plastic crystal. Conversely, the 16800 can have a slightly smaller date mag than the 16610 due to the shallower rehaut and the same 295C crystal.
  18. Ha! You found Josh on your own and D B. and I agree! Good luck.
  19. Welcome aboard! You're right about there being a ton of info here. And we've got some respected dealers, also. In all likelihood, the Bond sub was more like a 6538 with a big crown. But there's miles of debate on this issue. It didn't have the red triangle on the bezel insert or the hash marks from 12 to 3. The bezel insert shown in the movie is a very singular item. The dome crystal is OK. All of the crystals in those days were plastic. Although the Rolex shown in the movies probably wasn't a 5508, it's still one of the Subs referred to as a "Bond Sub". Here's the same watch from one of the trusted dealers: http://www.jpc8118.com/rlsv10014-vintage-m...362-p-3285.html Also, you can buy a Bond strap from Corvus Watch Co- $39. Or buy a regular Nato strap for $15-20- google it. If you join here, i.e. donate some money, you'll have access to the dealers. It's well worth it.
  20. That's a nce dial and you had me going until I saw the engravings. Very vintage, though.
  21. A little aging of the case and it will be one 'top notch' watch. BEAUTIFUL!
  22. Lest I forget, isn't it the gen 1680 dial is a tad too big for the MBW case?
  23. Gen tritium dial in an older MBW/TW Best case with lugholes. Notice the deep rehaut.
  24. Looks Beautiful! Like Freddy, I'd love to hear the details. Case looks pretty pristine, alpha hands, pointer on the balance bridge... 50's V72C.
  25. Try Yukiwatch over in hong Kong: http://cgi.ebay.com/Full-Complete-Set-of-S...%3A1%7C294%3A50 The 1680 case used to be listed for $350 plus shipping. A friend said they will take the Rolex 1575 movt and are as good as Phong's. Also, Chris at Eurotimez has the MBW 1680 case for $165. This doesn't take a gen movt w/o some mods, if I recall correctly.
