  1. For me, it's a no brainer. Take the Daytona. If you could loose interest in it, any rep will last even less, form my own experience. Gen will last a life time and be handed down to your heirs. Just buy gen since she is not against that. Wish I had that dilemma.
  2. Mine is also running about 20 sec/day slow over a 6 day period. Since I only have it for about 3 weeks, I am waiting to see if it changes.
  3. I bought a WM9 v2 sub from BK and got it 3 weeks ago. It is as good as everyone says. I have several subs and this is the only one I don't feel self conscious when wearing. BK is great to deal with, always fast response on PM.
  4. If you are interested in trying the water of ebay, see my post http://www.rwg.cc/members/Buying-Gen-Gmt-I...;hl=buying+ebay
  5. Great turorial. I especially appreciate the links to procure the parts. Just received the bezel inserts (yes I bought 2, just in case I messed up one) and the pearl is way better than what came with the rep. I'll be using your sanding technique soon to make the insert fit. Thank for sharing.
  6. I would not hesitate to sent work to The Zigmeister. The only reason I let Rolex do the work is that I can hand carry it there. The watch has sentimental value and I did not want to ship it by mail or thru other carrier.
  7. Rolex in NY still services 1570. My 40 year old OP Date 1500 with 1570 was serviced by them this year. @Southcoast, great story and beautifull watch.
  8. With $1000 to play with, I would get a used SMP and still have money leftover.
  9. For the price it went for one can almost buy a gen Tudor Sub, with a real case made by Rolex and Rolex modified ETA movement.
  10. A GF that shares your interest in watches is very special. The reaction from my wife when I got a new watch is "another watch...what's the difference between this one and the last one you bought...etc." I have to remind her that I don't drink, gamble and have less than half dozen pairs of shoes, LOL. You are a lucky man.
  11. Great looking trio. I am also a satisfied group buyer, with the 1680. Although I noticed the 1680 dial has no lume. only the hands and the pearl. I guess it needs to be included as part of the mods when i get to it.
  12. Great pictures and great looking rep. Thanks for sharing.
  13. My gen 1500 Oyster Perpetual Date, purchased in 1967, contains a 1575 movement. Also data from: http://www.oysterworld.de/1/index.htm Lists Caliber 1575 used in: 1575 19800 1965 Date, 24h 1500, 1501, 1502, 1503, 1504, 1505, 1506, 1507, 1508, 1509, 1510, 1511, 1512, 1513, 1514, 1530, 1550, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1607, 1610, 1611, 1625, 1630, 1655, 1665, 1675, 1680 For: OP Date, Datejust, Sea-Dweller, GMT, Explorer II, Submariner (vintage only)
  14. The 1575 movement are in Oyster Pepertual Date, ref 1500 and others. They go for arond $1,000, + or -. Since the 1500 are 34mm small watches, they don't fetch too much more. I think that the reason there are always 1500 watch cases on ebay is people taking the movement and using them in 1680, 1675, etc.

    NY NY

The strecth of Canal St. between Mullbery St. and West Broadway is a browser/shopper's paradise for inexpensive knock-off and rep merchandise. Its similar to HK night market or Silk st in Beijing. Full of store fronts that opens to the street as stalls. It is worth a visit even though it is not a good place for high quality reps. There are chinese women that hang around on Canal st. that will call out to passerby (mainly to tourists) rolex, rolex, rolex... Other will call out Gucci, etc. One woman I noticed was holding a sub as sample and if you ask for other style she has a page with color photos of other watches. The quality I don't know, but haggle as if it is a cheap asian movement and with no saphire crystal. Afterwards, get a good meal in Chinatown or real Italian food in little Italy (Mullbery st)
  16. I was out of town this week. The wife called on Wednesday and said you got a package from Thailand. Had to come clean and said Honey, it's a watch. You can guess her reaction. "Another watch!!!! Thought the gen you bought 4 months ago was the last one...." Good news is she's already over it when I got home today. It was a nice 1680.
  17. That's the best April Fool joke I have been had by. Though no more RWG.
  18. The scene of the huge robots polishing the case is amazing.
  19. I received a email from TTK last night. He indicated he has my watch! Delays due to Chinese New Year and waiting for slowest member. He will be in Bangkok this weekend and will "...advise shipping detail at that point in time." Good things are coming.
  20. I think he's been brainwash by uncle Rollie. It is just as tastefull as this GMT.
  21. I had the same problem with WU. It wanted almost 10% and won't allow me to do it over the net, said too much fraud. Had to go to a live agent with cash only. I tried Moneybooker too, it only allowed uploading by credit card $330.16 in a 60 day period. Not using CC will involve international bank transfer. I didin't even bother to check how much that'll cost. I bit the bullet and used WU.
  22. Looks like the horror story of what a Rolex AD do to a rep. It's almost funny the way he proceeds with the torture.
  23. Nice eye candy By-Tor. My 2 favorite rollies. never get tire looking at them.
  24. I am no expert on vintage subs, but here's my .02. The date mag looks off and I though the numbers have open 6. The 12 marker point appears to be touching the Rolex crown. Ring around the pearl appears to be too large. Bracelet is also not vintage, ie folded metal or rivets. A rep in my opinion.
