  1. It's an interesting question. Many people get into this hobby for different reasons.

I for instance love the look of some of the gens For example Breilting, Glashutte, Omega, Ulysse Nardin, and of course IWC. However in my current position I can't afford all of the watches that I would like to own. Buying reps therefore gives me variety, and allows me to buy one or two gens when I can....so its more of an aesthetical factor for me.

I don't flaunt replicas as genuine to heighten my status. To be honest, most genuine brands are readily affordable by most. If you really want a particular genuine then you can save for it, it's only the high end Pateks etc... that truly 'raise' status....if such a thing exists.

Furthermore, if I am approached I will quite happily admit that it is a rep and provoke discussion that way (unless I feel that they wouldn't respond to it well , or I'm in a situation where it wouldn't be advisable to admit to it being a Chinese replica)

In relation to your Tissot/rep decision, don't compare the Tissot to the rep as if the rep were gen. Try to look at them both objectively, and judge which watch you prefer. Of course the factors you consider will vary from the ones that I would consider.....and they would continually vary from member to member. For example, I would always take a gen SOSF over a Seiko, but currently, I have a real desire to buy a Seiko as a daily beater...instead of buying a SOSF replica.

I would openly admit that if my financial situation changed to the point where I could afford two watches from each of the brands above (unlikely), I would no longer buy reps. However, the one thing that will always keep me a part of the replica hobby is this community.

    The two main things that KEEP me in this hobby are;

    1) This community

    2) The varety it gives me

and yes...that is in order of relevance.

  2. Why is this in the other section and not the Breitling section?

I thought it might get lost in there, whereas I thought it would be at home in the review section. If the mods feel the Breitling section is more appropriate feel free to move it there.

Genuine on the left in all pictures

Is it just me, or my monitor, but does the lume at 9 on the gen look a bit misaligned?

Great review, by the way, the yellow dial is also on my wishlist.

I think it's actually a distortion that occurred when I resized the image. I zoomed in on a couple of other pictures I have here, and the lume is placed perfect inside the border, and doesn't tail off like it appears in the above photo.

Another problem I had with the pictures was the colour of the dial. The genuine grey dial is actually very light. The colour of the replica varies greatly with the context in which it's worn. Sometimes it looks dark grey, sometimes it looks like the genuine grey.

  3. First of all, a big thank you to BWhitesox for the great transaction!!

    Serviced Swiss ETA Movement

    K222 Double AR

    Rep Rubber Strap

    Impressions

I have always liked the PO and it is probably my favourite divers watch. I have lost count of the number of UPO's I have been through.

I always buy them and find that they just don't live up to the aura of the genuine. The genuine PO just has something extra that the UPO's don't. It could be the AR, it could be the lume, or it could be the texture of the dial. Whatever it is, I just can't seem to own the rep. Another thing I find is that it has never sits on my wrists particularly well.

I saw this UPO pop up in the sales area and thought I would give it a try (My 5th PO). I have never particularly liked the Pumpkin PO, but on the other hand I have never particularly disliked it either....it's more of a respectful type association that I have with it.

Well...that all of changed when I took it out of the packaging!

I seriously thought BWS had sent me a gen by accident. The AR makes ALL the difference to this watch. The orange bezel and the rubber strap is the nicest combination I have encountered (and I have owned most combo's). The rubber strap makes it sit so much nicer on my wrist, and it is very comfortable!

Additionally, the movement operates like butter thanks to the service!

    Onto the important part......

  4. Congrats on the watch and a very nice write up. That is a great looking piece for sure. I think about this one but shy away from it given it's so close to my Skyland in terms of looks and dimension. Like most, the solution to this would probably be to go for the yellow dial, but then I'm not so sure how often I would wear a yellow dialed piece. Either way...it looks great.

Thanks TT. It is very similar to the Skyland, but suprisingly it feels much more substantial. It feels like I'm wearing a brick on my arm, both in terms of weight and wrist presence. If you have a Skyland already, the yellow dial is the one to go for like you have said, otherwise it is just too similar to the Skyland.

First of all, a big thanks to Watcher for the smooth transaction. He is a great member to deal with.

    The Review

When I first became interested in timepieces, the Breitling Navitimer was very much my favourite watch, as well as being my first replica acquisition. It has a large following and it is the fundamental basis of Breitling. It is the watch that most traditional Breitling fans associate with the brand. Over the years the brand has really grown in popularity, which is really good to see as a big Breiling fan myself. One such series that has particularly grown in popularity is the Aeromarine series.

The latest designing trend with the Aeromarine series is to add the split numbers on the dial and to add 5minute number markers onto the bezel. This has really helped to update their appearance and modernise them nicely without losing too much of their heritage.

    History

The Breitling Aeromarine series was designed to satisfy the purchaser that requires a super sturdy watch with impeccable reliability. It has become a very popular sports watch among customers who demand a watch to function on land, in water and in the air

  6. For me the price/gen ratio doesn't really come into it, unless the ratio is very small.

For example, I have just purchased a Seawolf rep (thank you Watcher!!) and the genuine, in the larger pattern of things is very cheap. However, I love the look of it and thought I'd give it a try.

I never buy a watch because the gen is expensive, I only buy a rep if it catches my eye, and I could see myself buying the gen (if I had the funds to). Price doesn't really come into it until the gen becomes readily affordable. (eg, I have owned an SMP and Breitling Aerospace gen - they can be picked up for good prices)

Another factor I consider is the cost of the service. So if Im looking to buy a second hand genuine, and I need to get it serviced in 'x' amount of years, for the cost of the service I could probably get the rep of that watch.

One limit I never place on myself is buying reps of watches that I could afford the genuine of. To me that seems a little silly. This hobby allows us to get a watch that represents the real thing for a fraction of the price. I couldn't currently afford a Patek at the moment, yet I would quite easily spend the money on a rep. If I were to start limiting myself to ones that I could afford in the genuine form, I think I would be losing the reality that the watch is just a rep, and Im here to enjoy the variety that this hooby gives me. Back to my point above, if I like the watch, I buy it, no matter if the gen is 3000US, or 30,000US.

  7. I have been away for the weekend, having come back today I had numerous emails, one of which saying that Paypal had detected a third party transaction from ym account.

Being sceptical, I went to Paypal in a separate browser and logged in and didn't use the link provided. Sure enough, 'I' had made a payment to some gambling company in America on the 14th!? I've had no access to my account all weekend so I know it wasn't me, so I've filed a dispute and just hoping Il get my money back. I'l be onto the bank tomorrow to change my card and account details too.

I'm thinking of closing my paypal account, it just seems too risky these days!

  8. If it is an ETA movement wit will be made from Swiss part, and constructed in China.

It won't be a 'from factory sealed' movement, and would therefore not come pre-serviced (or oiled and lubircated and not needing a service right away), they're mostly re-cyled units.

The clone movements are just made from Chinese parts and made in China.
