  1. Many thanks for this thread! It almost gives me the confidence to get stuck in and have a go myself, although a little knowledge is a dangerous thing... lol May I ask what grease you used for the rotor?
  2. Ahhhh, I understand now! Thank you very much for the reply DLC is definitely what I'd need then, although trust me to have expensive taste/needs lol
  3. Just to check, there is definitely a difference between PVD and DLC, isn't there? I know DLC is supposed to be 4000 Vickers and one of the hardest coatings available (if not the hardest?) but is it correspondingly more expensive than PVD, which I understand to be softer? Has anyone had experience of the robustness of both? I really like the black finish but my watches tend to take a few hits here and there, and I wouldn't want to PVD something if it's only going to chip off in the first month... Thanks in advance, all
  4. Either that or you have some weird magnetic field around you lol Do street lights flicker when you walk by?!?
  5. Limited production Rollies really do look like a good investment!
  6. I think I'm in the same situation. Morally, yes, you could argue that what the rep market does is wrong - people making a profit off the name and reputation of others. But... If even an amazing quality rep, such as the new Ebel pieces and bargain Omega POs, can come in for such a low price, there really must be an awful lot of money being taken out of the profits in the form of salaries etc, especially when the components for even a full franken gen-u-like watch come in so much under the price of a proper gen.
  7. [n00b question] What is/are the alternative/s available? [/n00b question]
  8. Just seen this from erkahund - looks like a new offering from him? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Chronograph-MILITARY...tem290313023535 I think I like it...
  9. Is this a sterile dial 111? It looks great! What size is it?
  10. Noob question alert!! What's the big watch in this photo, 3 from the left, 4 from the bottom?
  11. Thanks very much for posting this pic - it's just the thing us n00bs need to see to work out which one we want! The 44mm really does seem to wear big for its size - the bigger versions must be massive!!
  12. Is it possible for you to give a price for DLC?
  13. Bah, screw fashion I like chunky watches so will be looking for some used bargains now they're 'out of fashion'!
  14. If you've got lume pics of the black lume then that would be awesome
  15. Looking at all those bits in just one movement, I don't think I'll be taking any apart myself soon... lol
  16. Personally I much prefer the IWC, but that's because I've been hankering after one for a while lol Will the blue go with what you plan to wear though? The Glashutte may be the better, more coordinated choice in that respect, and might also be less well known and therefore less likely to be called out. All in my humble n00b opinion though lol EDIT: How about these ones? http://www.timeshops.net/IWC8853_-_IWC_Big...g_2483-2914.htm http://www.timeshops.net/IWC4065_-_IWC_POR...ph_1905-361.htm I may be shopping for myself now... lol
  17. Do you know anyone travelling to the US in the near future? If you could arrange an insured transfer to an address that your friend is staying at, it could come back on their wrist...
  18. I'd be interested to see this once it was all together with the black lume!
  19. Those baps out pics really should warrant a NWS amendment to the thread title - I'm just glad I didn't open this at work while people were around!! lol
  20. This is certainly an interesting read for a n00b such as myself, and does make me hesitant to pull the trigger on a less than perfect rep that I would previously have thought "ah well, it's not perfect, but I'll just get it AR'd and re-lumed after I've got it and have a bit of spare cash". I appreciate all the points though - I guess that I, too, am partly guilty of wanting that perfect watch now and must learn to bide my time, but my fear is that I won't be able to find the time to become a 'fully participating' member of the forum and therefore never have the opportunity to get mods done as I've not 'been accepted' due to not having the time/self-confidence to network enough. This is probably just n00b paranoia, but with only so many hours in the day and such a vast amount of people and information on here, one does wonder if getting the rep that one desires is achievable if to do so requires more time and input that is available... Anyway, I'm still hopeful I need to get speaking to my local watchsmith to see what he might be up for! That and actually speak to other members on here Thank you to all the older and wiser members who offer input on these threads, it's very useful indeed
  21. Yeah, I thought they were lol, but I don't mind For a gift I'm just enjoying it at the moment! I will go for a more accurate rep for my next one
  22. Hey all I'm exceedingly pleased to say that, due to a completely unexpected act of kindness by a new friend I have been gifted my first rep! It's a Bell&Ross BR01-94 Carbon running (I'm told) an ETA movement, and it also came with a ALT Strap on top of the original rubber one! That is sadly as much as I know, and I'm not brave enough to take it apart to check lol It has however been keeping excellent time and the chronos work fine from my limited testing! The finish is good on the case (if a little shiny) and the majority of the numerals and index markings are spot on, but... the chrono dials are incorrect to the original (should be seconds at 3 not seconds at 6), the printing on the smaller lettering and on a couple of dates on the datewheel is slightly flaking in places, the hands have zero lume, the datewheel is ever so slightly sunken, and the chrono seconds hand isn't lined up exactly to 12... but I love it I have no hope of affording a gen anytime soon so I think I will go for the good BR02 rep that is now available for my next rep! I will also become a supporter when I actually have some money - right now it's a case of not eating till payday... lol Anyway, here are some pics! Apologies for the not great quality - I'm struggling slightly as my camera doesn't seem to like focusing in the Super-Macro setting!
