  1. Hater! I love mine, it's a superb summer watch
  2. Yep - they contain tiny crystals of aluminium that transfer through the skin and build up in the surrounding tissues over time. I'm technically [censored] as I have to wear a lot of antiperspirant because I'm a sweaty bastard lol What annoys me most is that manufacturers are rolling out nanotechnology into these things (especially the 'no white marks' sort of sprays, from what I can tell, as well as sunscreen) yet as far as I'm aware there has been no long term assessment of how nano-particles absorb into the body over an extended period of usage. We are, basically, the guinea pigs while manufacturers make $$$$$$$$ in profit on an untested technology that may well be killing us in the long term.
  3. Is this another awesome Freddy purchase? Damn you, man
  4. Right, so we shouldn't wear metal or rubber straps, or leather if it has been treated in some way, and we shouldn't use deodorant or antiperspirant so should stink and have sopping wet arm pits... How exactly are we supposed to live in this life?? lol I simply couldn't not wear antiperspirant - unlike some people in this life who seem to come off the running machines with barely a bead of sweat on them, I'm a sweaty bastard!!
  5. This is a great thread! I think everything in the world only ever has a perceived value at the time. Unfortunately none of us can time travel so we speculate by buying what we think will be keep or increase its value (if we are collectors) and then just have to sit and wait to see what happens. I keep reading about how all these old rolexes used to go for pennies, and you could buy a tray of movements at $50 a piece, and that is because no-one saw the resurgence in interest that they've experienced in recent times! What can you do? I think we should just enjoy what we have and spend the money on something we like if we have it. After all, it's only money, and we could be hit by a bus tomorrow
  6. There may be an option to slide something thin and strong between the bezel and the case, and then prise the two apart gently? You might then be able to take the movement out the resulting opening?
  7. Google for gasgasbones - he can custom make whatever you want
  8. I like it Is the Ace Cafe a reference to the Ace Cafe in north London??
  9. I'm sure I read that it's the crown direction
  10. I agree with the above - but would add that the 3135 'clone' rolex movements have been unreliable from what's been reported on the boards about loose rotors, loose screws etc. Also, ETA is easily serviceable!
  11. Sweet! Not the greatest pic lol but certainly shows how close it's getting I'm assuming gen on left? If so, and if I'm being reeeeeally picky... The rep dial 5 seems a little too 'fat' between the flat top and the curved bit, if you see what I mean?? Are the L SWISS MADE L letters a tiiiiny bit too tall? I'd agree that the 4 looks very slightly different, and would perhaps say that the 1's look a tiiiiny bit too narrow(?) Overall, though, I think it's so close now as to be virtually finished!! Can you get a photo of the lume to show how it sits above the face of the dial? I don't think we'll ever get the slightly recessed sandwich-dial effect of the gen but then that's only on the 249, and if this is tweaked and sold as the 1936 vintage version...
  12. A great first build Mine will be a lot less scary - I think I'll start with a PAM homage! lol
  13. I think that's a DSN model I love it, it's a really classy piece!
  14. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, if a little annoying... lol
  15. Nice Did you find out if they're doing the UBlack? I neeeeeed that watch lol
  16. I love these blue dialled IWCs!
  17. I wouldn't worry about the engraving being wrong on the back - who is going to see it while it's on your wrist? I think the latest batch of these has a slightly green tint to the dial lume unfortunately whereas the early versions definitely had white lume. If you can budget for a relume then I reckon it'd be spot on!
  18. Ordering a rep while living in Nicaragua seems to be the definition of 'brave' lol

    IWC 1939

Cool! If it's from an AD then I imagine it's a quality strap A strap really can make or break a watch though so I think it was a good investment I hope you enjoy wearing it, I think it's the rep strap that puts me off wearing mine as much as I should!
