Gen PAM Crowns - No More Requests Being Accepted
sssurfer replied to Watchmeister's topic in The Panerai Area
I did not realize it, kruzer -- my poor English hit again, it seems. That being the thing, it goes without saying that I'll honour my committment if you ordered any PVD crowns in this batch. Please can you confirm it so that I don't wonder anymore whether buying on the bay? -
Now that both Finepics and palpatine are MIA, this is very very good info! Thanks all!
-
Awesome! What about a little patina on the now bright white of the 'marina militare' text too?
-
Oh my that is a stunner. Sell it for 100,000 on the bay.
-
It also depends on what country you buy and sell. In this [censored] of country where I live the buyer of a first-hand item pays 20% more in taxes than a second-hand one.

Why dealer pre-serviced watches aren't possible
sssurfer replied to Rolexman's topic in General Discussion
What I find especially impressive is that the brain of a 23-years-old guy can take just 5 years (and possibly much less, not stated in the arcticle) to re-configure itself to use feet in place of hands. If he was a newborn or a baby, ok, surprise but no great wonder. But this way it is really impressive. -

There has been another thread on the genuinity of those crowns -- and I have been a detractor there. But frankly I now care only to a small extent whether they are genuine or not. If they are of a good size, good look, good finishing, good gaskets, and they can be done to fit into our watches, I think that's all that counts (apart from the money, naturally). Also considering the lacking of communication by PAM about palp's crowns. I also have the highest consideration of kruzer's thought. I know that only he and few others (The Zigmeister included) collected and tried more types of crowns than me. If kruzer states that this crown is good, it's enough to me to get one (and their price is the only thing that is preventing me from getting several instead). Kruzer is not affiliated with the Turkish guy and he's not gaining anything from this -- rather, thanks for taking the hassle to get this done! And V's opinion is an added comfort. Full of nice tiny holes, kruzer? -
Thanks! Actually, the ST-2530 is not on their site, they only go from 2500 up to 2508. Good info for further research anyway. Just, I had became a little skeptic about the 25xx models as none of the models they show seemed to have a datewheel...

Give us some more details on what you need. What watch model? What kind of screws (lugs screws or what)?

I suppose that leaving 6497 owners out makes the number of purchasers about a half than what originally hoped. Let us know if this is a giveout to you, kruzer. I noticed that the seller surfaced out on the bay again, but his prices are still outrageous, so I would really like it if a group buy could get those crowns at a discounted price -- especially considering that there's no guarantee to find a tube that would fit. I'll wait three days then I'll buy on the bay. -
Really thanks, Marrickvilleboy! On your nickname I suppose you are that one with great experience on these movements (I made a little search on the forums, and a nick similar to yours was referred to several times on the subject).

In an attempt to get better datewheels for the 090, Lello and I are trying to figure out what movement is in. Once there seemed to be quite a general consensus in the forum that it was the Seagull ST25. But I just checked the Seagull site: http://www.tjseagull.com/jx.asp ...and none of their ST25xx comes even close to the movement that is in my (and Lello's) 090, i.e. this one: Anyone knows what movement is this? ...or whether its datewheel is interchangeable with the 2892-A2 datewheel?
-
Thanks for your reply, V!

Hi Tourby, as I said, once that all moddings will have gone ok, it's highly likely that I'll put the extra one out for sale. And I don't even plan to make money from it. But naturally, modding will include finding a SF240... or just a decent substitute...
-
Does anyone among our movements gurus know whether the Seagull ST25 and the ETA 2892-A2 (which the ST25 is supposed to be a partial copy of) have the same datewheel? I mean, whether their datewheels are interchangeable? The Zigmeister? Tourby? r11co? Anyone?

Does also DON's one come with a polished, sewn-in, large-size buckle? I have to say I don't love that buckle... I mounted that strap on a brushed case watch, and I think that a brushed buckle would make a better match... and that buckle is a little oversized to my taste, too. I just need to get the nerve to sacrify it (sawtooth needed) and replace it. Hoping that a screw-in buckle would not leave too much room at the strap's end. Edit: I had a look at DON's. I think that DON's is better quality. Apart from the fact that it costs 45$ vs 29$, the stitching looks a little differently placed, better manufactured, and of a better quality...

In both cases, 005 or 111, you just need to order a crown for manual movement (i.e. caliber 120). All crowns and stems are standard size and they will fit, provided you go with manual for manual and auto for auto (auto is caliber 90).

Great comparison and great suggestion, V. Thanks! I too thought I'd chime in with the one I just got from Panatime:

Ouch, sorry to hear that, rmcsherry! As I said, Tony told me he could satisfy only one request. Now I wonder whether it was your order or else. If it was, then it seems that my pieces were the last ones. I got two 'cos I wanted a backup copy in case anything goes wrong with the modding I planned. If all goes ok, maybe I will sell the extra one. I also omitted to post pics as there were no more pieces available, so I supposed there was no interest for pics anymore. But as you are still interested I'll post pics ASAP.

Some months ago I bought a set of 3 stingray + 2 shark 24/24 straps from them. The straps were good quality and adequately thick (4mm the sharks and about 3mm the stingrays), and I seem to remember they were less expensive than these ones. At about 40 USD each you are in the price range of BOB or DON's.

1 PVD here, kruzer. Thanks! -

Agree. That strap should be bombastic on a vintage, and its very special design is definitely worth a try in 26mm as well! -
Better that way!
