  3. I am glad you have a sense of humor and you are feeling more confident to go after an MBW. I have an NDTrading dial and matching hands on the way to me ans should get here by Saturday. Nothing like having options eh? let me know if I can help you with your project or parts.....I would be glad to help. Thanks for your opinion and understanding
  4. Many thanks "V".....this writer's strike is killing me....
  5. First let me say that I have been collecting watches for well over 20 years. There was a time when I could buy vintage watches by the boxful at any Pawn shop.....now they act like big time Jewelers......anywho.......I have owned over 15 Various Rolex watches most of them subs and a Few Datejusts. The Sub, in my humble opinion, is the perfect watch......remember, that's just my opinion. The vintage subs have always held a very strong attraction namely the 5513. My rep collecting began when I discovered this site.....or the old site......well, you get my meaning. Speaking of meaning, my login tells the whole story......let's be honest, aren't the Swiss ETA reps "Justasgood?.....well, almost. So after many low end ETA subs, I discovered the MBW's....and I can't get enough.......vintage Sub MBW's of course.......modding them to within mm's of perfection was the challenge, but just as others have discovered.....you can make 'em look Gen.....you can even use gen parts......but what really makes a Rolex a Rolex......is the movement. Fast forward.......just as Predfan has been seeking the perfect 5513.....so have I....... so now a start to my quest......an MBW 5513 Gilt with Poor dial and ETA Movement Next; Gen Vintage Gilt 5513/5512 dial....may as well dream big...worth every dollar as you'll hear Now a donor watch with a period correct movement....... along comes a 1961 Oyster Perpetual...I Paid $800.00...again, worth every $$ Fun with the Donors: Well, all was going well. The MBW case was modded, Gen tube, Gen Crown, Gen Complete NOS bezel assembly,Gen insert and Gen Bracelet were added. The lugholes were modded and gen springbars installed: Now, all I needed were a vintage set of gilt hands and I am.....wait for it..........."Golden"...sorry, pun intended. Well after months of angst and dead ends, I couldn't bring myself to install a new set of hands on such a beautiful dial......what's that? The Vintage parts market is going through the roof? Oh well, may as well offer up the dial to the collectors.........So I sold it..........Yeah, it hurt, I felt huge remorse and dammit, I know I'll never have another. But all that pain went away when the $$ hit my account......don't ask 'cause I ain't gonna tell....besides, you wouldn't believe me and you would probably hate me as well So now what? Well, I picked up a NOS Gen 5513 service dial and handset for a pretty good price......sent them over to my watchmaker who had serviced the movement, and threw it all together for me yesterday including a new Gen T-19....so for all the speculation as to wether a Gen Rolex movement can be used in an MBW.....and without further adieu I present some unPuglike pics......Comments always welcome Recap ala Master card: Gen 93150 bracelet with 501B end pieces - Market value $500 - $600 Gen NOS Dial and hands $550 Gen Crown/Tube $75.00 Gen gaskets $25.00 Gen springbars $12.00 Gen T-19 crystal $27.00 Gen caliber 1560 Chrnometer Movement with full service including New winding rotor $950.00 Gen NOS Bezel assembly with New Gen insert $275.00 MBW 5513 case modded by your's truly $375.00 Total cost....................... alot of $$ Wearing it and smiling everytime I look at it knowing Predfan is jealous.............Priceless......just kidding.....kinda I hope you like it.....I sure do
  6. More pictures and details to be added........will it pass for a Gen?........
  7. Remember my Dream watch.......... As soon as I get me camera charged, you'll see the results...............stay tuned Details to follow.........
  8. Ugliest Sub rep........not Rolex Rep.....c'mon read the post.....if you regain your eyesight :-)
  9. I have a Gen Dweller insert if anyone is interested. Pm for price.
  10. I've done this with a few of my 1680's: Love the Dome!
  11. 3. Genuine Crown and tube installed. I have not come across a rolex model that did not accept genuine crowns and tubes. Anyone offering to install a
  12. When you remove the bezel.....it's easy to just lift up using your finger nails.......there is a flat washer style piece that you need to put a slight bend in. This will give the bezel the needed friction to prevent it from moving on it's own. When you want to use the bezel, just press down and turn....just like the Gen
  13. Yes, I am waiting for the movement service and hands. In the meantime, I am giving the case some real world love and patina so it is fitted with my MBW Red dial and movement. The Gen Gilt dial fits in the MBW case snuggly and shouldn't need any modification. Oh, and Good Morning to all!
  14. I see some clarifications are needed: First the Gilt dial has been confirmed as Gen and original by no less than 5 Rolex Experts (Including one who wrote the ultimate book on Vintage Rolex watches Mr. Rolex). Next, I don't expect this to be the "Mother of all" Gilt dial watch. I expect it to be a watch representing one I'll never be able to buy as all original. The movement service and hands are to be at the watchmaker's cost and use all Gen parts including hands. The watch as pictured has the Rep hands which I re-lumed along with the dial. No one scammed anybody. The customer was informed of the aftermarket bezel and cost. Had I found the gen combo in time, it would have been used on the customer's watch. As for the case.....only Anal retentive so called "Rolex Afficianado's" would notice the difference. I myself have owned over 15 Vintage and ModernSubs. I build 'em the way I like them. Not to please the masses. I do however get much satisfaction from the nice comments I get from the members here and elsewhere on my work. But hey, thanks for your feedback.
  15. Funny thing is, my watchmaker was shut out by Rolex on a Gen Bezel assembly for a customer's GEN 5513. In steps Mr. Justasgood, Picks up an MBW, sells the Bezel assembly for the cost of the watch (His idea not mine), I get to keep the MBW and just happen to find the gen set I have now. The MBW Bezel fit perfectly on the Gen 5513 and as you can see, the Gen bezel fits perfectly on the MBW case. As for the dial......I only wish I could have paid with vegetables
  16. "Bran" or "Brain"?....Kidding, I'm kidding......
  17. C'mon Star, you lazy S.O.B.......read the link! Sheesh....why do I even bother PM on it's way..... All totalled I have: MBW - $375.00 Gen Beacelet - $550.00 Gen insert and bezel - $300.00 Gen Dial - You don't want to know Gen 1560 Movement - $850.00 Service and Gen hands - $250.00ish Total when complete.......Priceless and far cheaper than buying a Gen 1961 Gilt 5512/5513 with original dial......Current market price.......Probably $6000.00 and up. What a bunch of fools.......
  18. The biggest difference...IMHO, is the thickness of the clasp material and of course the end pieces. The center links are a little thinner gauge, but overall feel and heft is almost exact......of course, only after you polish and refinish the bracelet. In fact, I have a Gen clasp on an MBW Hollow center link bracelet Shown here: As soon as my watchmaker gets my gen endpieces, I doubt that anyone would be able to tell one fron the other.
  19. AS outlined here.... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=41725 This movement - Gen 1560 from 1961 and this All original Gen 1961/1962 Gilt 5512/5513 dial Willl be installed into this: And now with Gen Bezel and insert! The MBW retention ring was used and the Gen Bezel snapped snuggly on. The crystal is a Gen Tropic 19 for the now obvious reasons. As for choosing an MBW case.....Well......for the $375.00, I couldn't go wrong. It is waterproof, all gen parts fit and I can mod it to my satisfaction. As for the 1680 Red....It is an MBW that I re-lumed.........And it has fooled a few Rolex "Experts" My watchmaker should have the movement overhauled/serviced by end of next week. Still need Gen Gilt hands or heavily Patina'd Stainless hands for Caliber 1560. Don't go away......
  20. That's an easy fix............................buy a Flimsy Gen bracelet.....spending $600.00 makes it feel less flimsy
  21. My VIP membership expired and I have tried for two days to re-new.....I keep getting a "no payment option selected" and I am not given one...... Perhaps I have consumed too much Vodka , but am I missing something? Thanks, Kurt.
