Yes, the thinner gasket goes around the threads that go into the case.......however, if you don't counter sink the hole in the case, you will pinch the gasket when you tighten it. Good luck, Kurt.

No need to pull the hands but you do need to remove the movement from the case. Once out, grab a loupe and look at the hole where the stem is inserted. With a very small flat screw driver you should be able to carefully push the pin back to re-seat. Did I mention to do this carefully? ETA movements must be in the "Hack" time setting position before depressing the pin to remove the stem. Otherwise, the pin will be forced out of position everytime. Easy fix....good luck

Here is a Gen for comparison: Pretty close I think....

Impossible to tell from the pics. A close up of the end links and clasp will be the best to evaluate. -

Great points and very deep.....now my head hurts:-) My personal opinion is thihs If you are going to build the best use the best. However, money talks and quite honestly, if I wasn't hell bent on building an "as close to Gen" watch as possible, I would be perfectly happy with the MBW bracelet......of course, lucking out and getting a smoking deal on a gen bracelet changes things......a little. -

As you can see in my pictures, I have a set of Gen 580's on my 5513 and a set of gen 501B's (from my now gone 14060M) on my MBW 1680. Fit is not an issue for either. Thanks for the Kudos on the bracelet. It ain't pretty, but they way I wear my watches ain't gonna help it if it were :-) -

Well, While I wouldn't say it is a bad option, I think patience and a watchful eye may net you a Gen clasp. I picked one up in very good shape for $250 and I recently picked up a complete 93150 580 endlinks from a 1680 for $200.00. It was pretty beat up and needed some pins in the clasp, but it works now:-) Shamless pic of my Dream watch now complete next to my soon to be gone 1680 Red..... Beautiful Profile too.... BTW, VRF (Vintage rolex Forum) has a set of 580 endlinks O.k. condition for $250.00...... I say wear it as is and enjoy the unmistakable feel of a Gen Oyster bracelet. -
A gen insert is all you need. The bezel of the 1665 is much thicker than the 5512/5513/1680. Good luck.

Well done and very informative. I would be proud to own and wear that Sub. Nice job!

A battle of wits with an unarmed opponent is......well, um..........not worth it. BTW, your post was not a "Topic". Rather a lazy attempt to find happiness Good luck in your search for the "Best" whatever makes you happy........dino

Am I missing something? A Ttropic 19 and T-19 are in the same family for the 5513/5512 and a Tropic 39 and T-39 are the same for the 1665 Sea Dweller.....right?

5512 Pointy Crown gaurd near complete....

O.K., here's my story and I am sticking to it: I got this watch from a friend who inherited it from his dad. It kept terrible time so he sent to a watchmaker for service. The gilt dial and hands were replaced with a 5513 service dial and handset and the case was given a nice polish. The original bracelet was in bad shape so the watchmaker put a newer 93150 on it....hey, it could happen. The serial number on the case is 68xxxx so it dates it to the early 60's which is right for a pointy gaurd 5512, the movement dates from the same period and is the correct 1560 used on a handful of Chronometer 5512's. As for the dial, I sure wish I wouldn't have sold this: Oh well, that's my story.... Thanks, The Vodka helps.....hic! I'm like "who the F is JAG?"..........oh yeah, me. Thanks for the kind words... -
Remember this case: And this movement: And this dial and handset: Well, now the case looks like this: So here is the ridiculous cost of my project: Dial and hands Gen and NOS: $550.00 Case from NDT: $950.00 Gen 1560 Movement donated from 1963 Rolex Oyster: $800.00 Gen NOS bezel and insert including crystal retention ring: $250.00 Gen T-19 Crystal: $40.00 Gen crown/tube $60.00 Gen Bracelet w/580 end pieces: $200.00 Gen spring bars: $10.00 Gen caseback gasket: $2.00 Movement serviced assembled and cased by my watchmaker: $free Total: $2862.00 Hunting down all the parts needed and pulling this project together.......Priceless! Keep an eye on the Sale areas. I will be shedding a few MBW/MBK's as well as other watches and parts. Oh yeah, just got this back from a trip to the spa: Rolex high jeweled Quartz movement. Opinions welcome.....even those that think I am nuts

Case questions for the vintage experts....
Justasgood replied to Justasgood's topic in The Rolex Area
I have been in contact with another member regarding this case and he expressed an interest in getting. At the moment, the supplier lists only 1 in stock. So to be fair, I will reveal the source after hearing from said member as to his intent. I can say that the case I am getting, cost a fair bit less, and has the proper style bezel insert. It comes with no crown or tube, but I have easy access to those from my source New and in package. Also, it seems that upon closer inspection of the cases at www.jewelryandwatch.com, the spring bar holes look a tad small in diameter. Maybe it's just a bad angle. Stay tuned and thanks for your insights, Kurt.
