  1. Yeah, that cabochon does look black... Wonder if that's actually in their production piece (ft0472's looks like it could be black)?
  2. Lots of multi-complication pieces in there. Beautiful watches to look at, and visually fascinating, but I'd hate to see what the repair bill costs when one of them breaks The most ridiculous in that bunch has to be the Romain Jerome Day & Night; no hands or real indication of time, it can only tell you if it's currently day or night. Well, I can look out my window and determine that one for myself without having to shell out $300K...
  3. MD- Any chance you have some closer macros of that pearl?
  4. A Clark's 295C should fit on there without hassle. Cyclops might not align correctly, but the physical fit using the rep gasket should be fine.
  5. D- How big of a wrist does this thing fit with all links intact? Must be pretty small if you need extras?
  6. You're correct, J. The difference in weight is likely not very substantial, unless you're working with a thick, lead movement spacer?
  7. Fat fonts are what would be the original inserts from the Sub/SD 1570 caliber era as they were produced in this time frame. There are a couple of different variations; size of font, square vs. rounded and serifs are all characteristics of the variations out there. The thin fonts are characteristic of lumi service replacements. BTW, email sent...
  8. That's the 1680/8 that I mentioned prior, BT. I suspect that the dial from that watch was modified and placed into the SS case to create the blue 1680...
  9. Well, the myth is that these blue 1680s were Asian market only, but if that were the case, you'd think that there would be more out there to have surfaced by now (so far, it's only the one that was sold by Antiquorum). There is much speculation that the dial came from a 1680/8, and was printed over in silver on the fonts with the markers rhodium plated; dial was retrofitted to a standard SS 1680 and the insert originated from a blue Tudor Sub. The latter (to me) is more plausable than the former...
  10. Ahhh, but a vintage 18k 1803 DD can be had for around $8500 in white or yellow gold (rose gold pushes it up to a few thousand more) So, not too far of a stretch as long as it's vintage...
  11. Thanks, gang. I've been having fun with aging these, as it's always interesting to see how they turn out. Jkay- What's stopping you? Juat jump on in
  12. Al should be fine for a spacer ring. On a somewhat related note, should a watch be deficient in weight (e.g 16622 Yacht-Master reps) I'd think that machining a movement ring out of a denser, heavier metal could supplement the difference?
  13. Quite a lot of controversy surrounding this one... Personally, I'm not certain that it's legit. Seems that any odd or unusual dial variations that can't be supported or explained otherwise are tagged with the 'special limited edition for the Asian markets' rationale by default, simply to justify a price premium Red dial Daytonas immediately come to mind...
  14. I forgot about that one... But then again, I also don't really consider that to be a traditional Submariner
  15. 16613 only... Or, the next best thing would be a vintage SS Tudor Submariner...
  16. Pre-A 002 for me this Monday... Have a good week everyone!
  17. One of my first was from EL as well. I miss the guy; he had the best sense of humor, and some of the best posts ever...
  18. Compared to that Panerai, the Ballon does indeed have a significant amount of presence! It's bigger than I thought it would be! Looks like it's 1/3 as thick in profile though... Might be interesting to try one of these. Maybe I need to visit the Cartier AD to see if they have one in the display...
  19. Mrs. Ubi currently loves her ceramic Chanel J12. She's been through a few... 1st J12; a 38mm quartz: However, that one met it's demise before long (she's really, really tough on her watches)... So, she's now on her second; this time the smaller 33mm model, which she loves: She also has a Ladies' DJ, which I am using as a work-in-progress project build. So far, only fitted with a gen crown (but more to come): In the past, she's had a 40mm PAM49: And a Patek Twenty-4: And she's also borrowed a few from me every now and then as well: But her all time fave is easily the J12
  20. Gorgeous group, kruz!! Of course, I do say that with a bit of bias Great watches for a phenominal guy and a great friend! Cheers! R
  21. Looking sharp, J!! It's the little details that really make for the greatest of differences! Well done, and looking great!
  22. More bezel experiments; I've had this aftermarket 1675 insert in my parts box for a couple of years now; figured it was as good of a candidate to put through the motions... This insert was originally a deep, semi matte black color: After some artificial aging: Comparison- New lumi service insert, 1675 insert, and my old MBW insert to give an idea f the different tones achieved: Fitted to the bezel: Always fun to play with this stuff; the results are very rarely ever the same Thanks for looking, //ubi
  23. If you filled that thing with water, fishes could live in there... That's some serious dome-age!
