How many grails is one allowed to have? I gots a list...

In the begining, Rolex and Tudor were very closely related with Tudor being the subsidiary; Rolex provided Tudor with the same cases, movements and even the same warranty. As years passed on, the brand identities of each had started to drift apart; now, they're viewed with a far more autonomous perspective. Designs and styles are less homogeneous, and Tudor is viewed as a lesser brand (regarding their current model offerings). With regards to vintage; several of the old Tudors have been following suit of their crowned counterpart and have been growing in demand. Models of interest include the manual Monte Carlos and Military Divers (MN).

Nice 7928! There's just something about a small rose dial...

Thanks, B! Sadly... I don't find myself wearing it much these days. Great watch, and I love it, but it's just not first pick. Perhaps if I ever get around to swapping a 1570 inside that might change Thank you, ST! I'm enjoying it as I type I'm looking at it on my wrist now, actually... I can't take my eyes off of it... The collection has kind of dwindled, but as of current, it's comprised of: -Franken 16520 El Primero Daytona (white dial) -Franken 16520 El Primero Daytona (black dial) -Modded MBW 1665 (great white) -Franken 9411 Tudor Snowflake Sub -MBW 3711/1A Patek Nautilus (no mods) -Franken skeletonized Omega Constellation -Genuine, all oiginal 165.024 Omega Seamaster300 -Old watchmaster 45mm Radiomir hommage And a bunch of parts that will some day turn into completed projects I have recently thinned out the collection quite a lot; I had a good number of finished projects and other watches that simply didn't get any wrist time. I find that the collection is best balanced at right around 10 watches for me. Any more than that, and they just collect dust...

Great hommage! And I love your trio of unbranded 44mm 'Luminors'! Very nice!

After a quick trip to our resident watch guru ziggy, my case has finally returned home for reassembly. Ziggy's done a knock out job on the case work, as per usual! Lugs drilled out nice and clean and the gen tube threaded in smooth as butter! To say I'm ecstatic would be a severe understatement! While it's probably no secret that doing case work is my least favorite part of these projects, the simple reality is that ziggy just does it better! And, the only two 'vintages' that remain in the collection...

Great Aquaracer, BT! Very smooth, sleek looking design! Of course, your amazing pics only enhance it's natural good looks And, speaking of great pics... The tourbillon has never looked better, R! Yes indeed... There's something very calming in watching that carriage revolve around that aperture. Glad to see it's found a good home! Cheers, R

Hey gang, Sorry for the late reply; it has been a busy past few days! So... I'm just catching up... -
Got this one back together yesterday and finally on my wrist once again. In stark contrast to the ROO (which has since departed the collection), I have to say that the comfort of an Oyster bracelet (and it's adjustability) is quite welcomed. Now that I have the Tudor to wear, the Daytonas and vintage SM300 can go back to the safe deposit box

APROO Macro Pics... Part II.. Open Case Back
ubiquitous replied to lanikai's topic in The Audemars Piguet Area
Fantastic!! Thanks for that insight... It's a great perspective into the build quality of this watch! I wasn't about to open mine up... Not yet, anyways... Good stuff, as per usual, R! I find that your posts rank as some of the most enjoyable for me to read. All the best, R -
I never went... Though oft times I wish I had... Guess it's never too late to give it a go... I need to look into that.

Both are absolutely amazing! That 27 is stunning in original form; with Ziggy lume, it's on an entirely different level! That 002 is a beauty as well. I love the simple Base dials! And... Is that a V CG I see as well? Nice and thick

Royal Oak Offshore- One big mother...!

Unfortunately, no rubber strap for me. If I decide to keep this thing, I may look into picking one up, or maybe getting a leather or croc. For now... The bracelet will have to do It is indeed! Here is a small comparo between a few others in my collection... Even though the ROO has a dimension of 42mm (just 2mm bigger than the Daytona and the same diameter of the Natuilus), it makes them both seem much smaller. This is one beefy case! I've since discovered that this watch fits on my right wrist better as it's slightly larger... -
Looks good to me! The 14270/114270 is a very versatile design! Looks great on the smallest to even the larger of wrists. So.... The $4500 question: Did you buy it?

Royal Oak Offshore- One big mother...!

Thanks all, for the very kind words So, day 2 with this bad boy, and it's starting to feel a little more natural on the wrist. Still somewhat awkward, though; the weight always reminds me it's there! To help answer some questions... Not sure how this movement will fare under the scrutiny of ZZ! Hopefully, this will pass the test! Raymond- It's difficult to say for sure. My wrist is 6.75" and I only have one link on (all the rest have been removed). I think the proper fit is going to depend on the shape of your wrist as the long case and lug overhang will play an important role as to whether the watch feels comfortable. As we all know, the RO and ROO bracelets aren't the most conforming; the rubber strap as dani mentioned may indeed be a better solution! Theo- The clasp on this one is tension set and snaps open once the flip lock is opened. As for the flaws... Just glancing at my watch, here's what I see: -The date surround in the aperture is silver, not black (though for me, it's not a huge deal). -The date/cyclops is a little too close to the inner bezel/rehaut -No lume on the markers -No metal surrounds on the markers (though this is a pretty subtle one). -Crown is a bit high on the profile Otherwise things look pretty decent (though I'm sure I've missed a few). Thanks again for the comments, guys! All very much appreciated! Cheers, Randy -
Hehe... Haven't picked up the white one yet. Actually, I'm trying to determine if the black dial will be staying or not. It's pretty big and somewhat goofy on my wrist (6.75")

APROO Macro Pictorial

GREAT pics, R!! They look fantastic (and put mine to shame ). Something interesting I noticed... Individual serials... Yours' Mine Cool! -
Even though I haven't visited TRC in a very long time, this is a sad day indeed. I'm going to miss TRC... As a thought; are there any plans or thoughts to maybe import some of the content from the TRC db into RWG's? Possible? So much history and what not, it would be a shame to lose it all...

Thurs and probably Friday too... Giving this one a try...

Royal Oak Offshore- One big mother...!
ubiquitous replied to ubiquitous's topic in The Audemars Piguet Area
Thanks, guys! Yeah... This one is a monster. Big, bulky... There's nothing small about it! A few more pics... This time a little better as I took them in natural light. Definitely giving my arm a workout! -
Had the surprise of my Royal Oak Offshore w/ seconds@12:00 (25721ST) knocking at the front door today. It's been a long while since I actually ordered a rep watch simply for the sake of wearing out of the box (the last one was a year ago- My much loved Nautilus); I was quite anxious with anticipation. Tore into the packaging and discovered a large brick was inside; a big, stainless steel brick. Quizzically, I withdrew this large, massive chunk of metal from the parcel... Initial thoughts- The watch is gorgeous. Great finishing, nice, crisp lines and the dial, in spite of all it's faults, is very high quality with great color, nice detail and very nice overall finish. The bracelet and case are top notch, very solid and confident. Gave the bracelet a quick sizing, rinsed the case with a wipe down and a couple of swings to wind and set the time. Checked the chronograph functions... Everything loooks good, sooooo.... Pop the clasp to slip it on and... It's a bit clumsy and awkward on my 6.5" wrist *sigh* For someone who is used to 40mm Daytonas and a much slimmer profile 42mm Nautilus (same diameter as the ROO, but far less bulky), this watch feels a bit... Out of place on me. It seems to attract a lot attention so far, which is something else that I'm not quite used to. My wife convinced me to give this one a week or two of wear before making the decision of keeping or selling; I have to say that after just a few hours, it's starting to feel a little more natural If it weren't for the size (mostly the thickness) of the case and bracelet links, I'd be all over this. I suppose that my answer lies with the more conservative and lower profile 25860ST Chronograph- Still, this ROO is fun (and I'm especially grateful that my price to feel this one out was a very small fraction of the gen). Overall, on the merits of this watch, I think it's a very ncie piece. If you're looking for all out perfection, you may just want to skip this one and buy a gen However, if you want a nice ROO at a great price, this may be worth a look for those of you interested (and hopefully with thicker wrists than mine ). All the best! R

Nice job, R!! There is nothing like doing it yourself! Quite a lot of fun and an educational process as well. Keep on it!
