  1. Well... With a 16610, the important thing is the base watch to start with. As often discussed, you'll want a case with a deep rehaut, good CG's, deep bezel, thick crystal with 2.5x mag cyclops inset off the edge, etc. etc. At that point, you can add a genuine insert, crown, tube, Noob dial, bracelet and so on. If the details of the case are correct to start, the added parts are really just the finishing touches. Yessir... Both are MBK/MBW. @gregers- These are two of the best reps I've had my hands on in a long time.
  2. I don't think it's any secret that I'm enamored with this pair... Very versatile, and beautifully finished. I find myself wearing these the most- In daily office or lounging around the house, going to do things with the kids, swimming etc. I just love the details and facets on these. If you're looking for vintage... I agree with Pugs; a vintage MBW 1665 Great White is a terrific option. Fits nicely on the wrist, very comfortable, and goes great with casual attire (but a bit too thick to really wear in formal occassions). Costs a bit to buy and mod up, but there are a ton of options for these in terms of parts. Kingkitesurf has recently demonstrated that a gen movement (1570) can be retrofitted with a bit of effort. For complicated, and maybe a bit on the higher scale of price, I would suggest building an El Primero Daytona (16520). Sure... It's a hefty entrance fee, but it's a piece that can be built to 99.999% specs, and one that you'll probably keep for the rest of your life. Also makes for a great daily wearer Of course, there are many other options out there... The IWC 3717 looks to be a stellar piece. Same goes for the Vacheron Overseas. Lots of great choices out there, depending on your tastes!
  3. piratedzeus, First off... Thanks for the kind comments I have found that all watch collecting (rep and gen), much like all other hobbies is an evolution in terms of personal expectation as well as preference and taste. As time has passed, I have found my collection to grow and shrink, shifting from one direction to another and sometimes coming around full circle to where I started. In short, if this hobby has taught me anything, it's patience and not jumping the gun too fast lest I make a decision that hindsight ends up biting me on once the dust settles (i.e. I sold a watch I wish I didn't, or waited too long and let one get away) At any rate... What is your current preference in watches? Do you like modern or vintage? Sport, or dress? Maybe something in between? Are big watches your thing, or will something in the 38mm to 40mm range suffice? Will this be serving as daily wear? And finally... Simple, or complicated? The answer to these questions may help narrow down a choice for you... Or it may help identify how many watches you'll end up wanting in your collection
  4. Happens to the best of us, M. If it makes you feel better, I had a similar experience with a genuine Submariner I owned a few years back... The screw pin at the last link had worked it's way loose, and to my astonishment, the entire watch fell off my wrist landing on the table with a big 'clunk'. Now, how do I explain that? It's a gen! That shouldn't happen with a gen, right? Well, most people think that when you pay the big money for a watch, that it'll be absolutely perfect, but fact of the matter is that even gens aren't always trouble/problem-free. In my case, it was an oversight when sizing the bracelet... But, I've seen/read/heard about enough QC problems with other brands (one haute brand that immediately comes to mind being Patek) that make me wonder what kind of attention to QC these high end brands are actually bestowing upon their product. For the prices they charge, I'm sure the last thing the customer/owner of a new Patek (or brand xyz) wants to do is send their new toy off to Switzerland for 4+ months- Longer than they have even had a chance to enjoy the watch. Anyways... Sorry for the slight derail on topic... Just wanted to underscore that it's not always reps that have problems, and that something similar could happen to anyone- Even someone wearing a gen
  5. I never noticed it before, but I guess I use a bunch of ...'s when I type out posts, too. Never anything intentional... But, I do like to pepper my sentences with semicolons as well...
  6. My ideal collection of 4 would consist of: And All four could/would qualify as: daily beater, dress watch, casual smart, sport. At least, in my lifestyle that is
  7. Or a Glashutte Original? I'd like one of either with a BIG date...
  8. Nice stuff, Job. Looking forward to seeing the finished results!!
  9. Indeed- Always good to have a nice, classic cut suit. Never know when the occassion might arise for needing one. I currently have a single suit hanging in the closet amidst a bunch of casual clothes. That one suit is probably sufficient for those few times I need it, but the Paul Smith that Jawo had posted in Bergie's review is quite tempting
  10. For jeans, I'm a little picky- Usually Diesels or Sevens, and I almost always end up having to get them tailored But, spending $220 on a pair of jeans isn't bad... About the same as buying a rep watch, and I usually get a good 2 or 3 of years out of a pair. So with the cost spread out, it's not so bad. As for rep clothes... For things like suits... I've been contemplating a Paul Smith from Ken. Only thing is... I rarely find myself in situations where I would need to wear a suit.
  11. Yes... I have several threads on those two... Probably more than people care to see at times I'll see if I can dig some up...
  12. Sit tight on this... I may have a solution coming in a few days that will not only center your date, but improve the aesthetics with better font...
  13. The blue is gorgeous... Quite subdued in person and not too blue, or overly obnoxious. It has a nice irridescence to it, and shimmers in the light at the center; the color fades at periphery of the dial with dark edges/border. When in indirect or low light conditions, it's more or less black. It's a gorgeous piece... I had a difficult time choosing between the Nautilus and my Royal Oak this morning...
  14. Dunno about the movement... But I think I know which watch
  15. Yes indeed... I was doubting the Nautilus a bit, as there is no screw down crown, case construction with the bezel, etc. but it checked out fine, as did the RO. I was pleased to hear the news, as I frequently take my son swimming; I usually wear my franken-Sub for underwater activities, but now I have a few more watches to choose from
  16. A very nice rep indeed! I had been contemplating one of these for a long while... Noticed recently that there are still some around, though who knows for how much longer? Seems these really good examples go the way of the dodo before long... Though this one has had the resilience of a couple years on the market, at least. Maybe all old stock? I somehow doubt that they are still being manufactured, though I could be wrong
  17. BTW... Did I mention that my MBK Jumbo's have become my new swimming accessories? Both confirmed as 150m pool-proof...
  18. I thought anal was an international thing? I mean... Isn't Sandra Romain, one of the double anal queens in the biz... Romanian?
