Unfortunately, the Daytona is a difficult watch to rep. I myself went with building my own Daytonas. The 6265 and 16520's I posted above are frankensteins using genuine parts. It's a costly endeavor (I currently have $4k into each of my 16520's), but the result is basically the same as a genuine Daytona; movement is the same, genuine dials, crystals, crowns, etc. etc. It was the only way to obtain an accurate Daytona without buying gen

Center seconds are stopwatch, which is stationary until the stopwatch is activated (pusher at 2:00). The 6263 vintage Daytonas with V72 handwind movement has running/continuous secs at 9:00: The 16520 neo-vintage Daytonas with El Primero 400 movement has running secs at 9:00: The 116520 current Daytona with in house Rolex 4130 has running secs at 6:00:

The 60@6:00 is a continuously running subdial- i.e. it is not a subsidiary activated by the stopwatch (stopwatch secs are the center seconds). The only way to disable is to have the gearing for this subsidiary removed, which will increase reliability in the mod 7750 movement.

Plenty of horror stories with gens. In fact, it seems as though the top end brands/houses are more prone to either arriving with or developing those irritating issues thanks to delicate complications, persnickety fine details (requiring nothing less than precise execution), etc. etc. To single out one particular brand, it seems as though Patek has had it's fair share of QC troubles, long lenghty service visits (I've heard of some trips to the spa taking 12 - 16 months), and poor treatment from 'customer care'. A bit eye opening, especially to someone who just paid $36k on a watch they were probably on a year long+ waiting list for to begin with.

Well... If you heat the crown/stem, that will definitely help the crown break loose of any glue/loc-tite/etc that may be present. I've never had to before, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to do...

When changing out crowns/tubes with gen, I've rarely ever had to adjust/trim the stem. You should be okay with the one you have.

Hmmmm... On mine, I had Ziggy tap my case while he was servicing my Valjoux 23. When I got the watch back, I simply threaded the tube in place- no countersinking.

Flat T-21's are also what I usually install. If you have access to a domed T-21, that would go perfect with the 6239 look (I can probably source one...) As for the tube- I'm with Avitt. Shim it with a gasket.

Sounds to me like a perfect opportunity to upgrade to a gen crown and tube, Bob... Easy fix. Case should be re-tapped to clean the threads, and the 7030 will thread right in. Honestly, I'd be more concerned about that mystery movement sustaining damage. Those things are so volatile...

If that's what makes him happy... Then that's what he should spend his money on. Watches are a true luxury... We don't need them... We don't need multiple variants of the same watch... But, if that's what floats his boat, and he has the means to fulfill his desire, I don't see anything wrong with that. Is it obscene? I don't think so... I can think of worse things to be wasting one's money on...

Yes... Zane is a very nice fellow. And he has a passion for Daytonas... He has what might look like the same watches, but they are all, in fact quite different- Even the SS versions. As a collector, he likes dial and bezel variations; with the 16520, there are several to collect. He has quite a few of the early, rare variants, which are going up in value quickly. As a collector, I respect him, and can only say that if one has the money, they are free to spend it as they like. It might not make much sense to some people... But most times collectors aren't known for behavior that might make sense to the masses. However, to that particular individual, and to those who share the same views/perspectives on the item in question, it might make perfect sense. YMMV...

No... Zane is a collector. He also has a very nice collection of Patek Nautilus' (among other Pateks) and Ferraris as well. More money than sense? Or more money than he knows what to do with...

That's cause it is gen! Not mine... But a borrowed pic I don't think I'm old enough to own an 18k RG or YG DD. But... Maybe I'll build one so that when I'm ready for one, I'll have it
