  1. I'll have to root through my parts; I just might have a caseback that could possibly work. I'll let you know tomorrow...
  2. Yessir... Genuine inserts are a fantastic upgrade. Such a small detail, but one that is far from subtle once you've compared gen with aftermarket/rep... Worth the effort, in my humble opinion...
  3. freddy, I do suspect that the shape of the 116520 caseback is by no means a mistake; without the curved shape, I'm not sure there would be enough clearance for the rotor? That mod-7750 is pretty thick, if I recall...
  4. Oh, don't get me wrong; I love my modded reps. The whole idea of modding/building reps is a far more fascinating concept to me than simply buying a watch. This hobby has given me an entirely different perspective on watches in general; one that I'd have never realized with buying a gen. It's the thrill of the hunt with every part being a chase It's just funny to think that the sum of all the parts far outweigh the base upon which they are applied to make the watch whole.
  5. Simply put- 'Hack' is a term that is used to describe the action of stopping the seconds hand when pulling out the crown to the time setting position. This is useful when synchronizing the time of your watch with, say an atomic clock for instance.
  6. Very true. What hapens in the parts market may not reflect equally in the market for complete watches. They're quite distinct. Yet the popularity of a complete watch will ultimately fuel the demand of certain parts. This puts an interesting spin on folks like us who like to mod reps with gen parts; the more I think about it, it's almost akin to slapping diamonds onto a gold plated turd. Well, maybe that's not the right analogy, but you get the idea of what I'm trying to express
  7. Well... The parts market for vintage Rolex is in my opinion a completely autonomous monster from even sales of complete vintage watches, per se. You have folks out there trying to collect parts that simply aren't in production any longer, and people are willing to fork out some outrageous money to build their stash of spares since RSC's are either replacing parts with new, non-period correct service parts, or simply not servicing certain watches at all. So, to fuel that demand, there are individuals out there who are feeding that market by supplying stock that was bought out from, say a retiring watch maker (who held a parts account), or buying some of the un-desireable no B&P/documents pieces and parting them out. It's a crazy dynamic, but folks are making a killing in parts. Makes me think I got into the wrong biz....
  8. If you think 580's are expensive, try pricing a pair of 585's! Yikes! C'mon folks... They're just corved little bits of steel.
  9. Indeed. It's a bit of a bummer; a dermal allergy is no fun at all. However, the rep bracelets work great- No fuss at all, and they're relatively low cost. A good option for a guy like me
  10. Mez- That's exactly what I have on my 1665; gen 78360, well used but in good shape with 580's and a gen 93150 clasp. While not model correct, I myself don't mind the mismatch as I have it simply to wear
  11. Yeah.... I've trid that route before with very little success, unfortunately. It works well on the caseback, but I didn't have very good results with the underside of the Oyster links. Not a huge deal, however.... I don't mind using my rep bracelets for these. They're still hollow link, and very comfortable to wear Why thank ya, kind sir! It's nice to be back posting, even if on a semi regular basis
  12. Cableguy! How the heck have you been, man? I myself am also catching up on RWG events...
  13. Hmmmm... Good question, D. You know, I'm not really sure I can put my finger on it, but I do suspect that being around the creative minds on RWG is inspiration enough to want to take on a new project of some sort. Exactly what that project is as of yet, I'm not sure. But I'll be doing some brainstorming over the next few days to try and figure something out
  14. Ehhhh... Not quite But I am enjoying less time on the Internets these days. I've been spending a lot of my time working as well I must admit- In my very limited participation as of late, I'm finding my interest in watches renewed... W- Sorry about the last time you called. I was right in the middle of a small crisis at the office that needed to be dealt with. Plus, I was out of the office for a few days thereafter. Give me a ring, or let me know when a good time is to call you
  15. Thank you for the kind words, buddy I promise I'll try to stop in a little more often (as time permits). A bit ironic, perhaps... Not enough time in the day to visit a site about watches. Hmmmmm... Cheers! R
  16. As a fact of trivia; both bracelets on my 16520's were originally standard rep bracelets with an all brushed finish; I spent some time polishing the centers, but they could stand to be repolished (I'm examing both as I type). I have gen bracelets for both tucked away in the parts box; unfortunately, my skin doesn't react so well with 904L
  17. Of course, there is another alternative... But from experience, it's a heck of a lot more than $600 to build one of these...
  18. Looking good!! BTW... In a moment, I'll be clearing out my in-box. At that moment, you may in fact have a PM (heh heh)...
  19. Things are going well, my friend! Another day in paradise.... All the very best... Randy
  20. Howdy, vlydog (and freddy)! Indeed... Been a few days since I logged in last; as mentioned, watches have sort of taken a back seat to some other occurances in life But I do check in on occassion... What can I do for you, sir? My mailbox has been packed full for several months... I need to empty it (one of these days.... *sigh*) R
  21. Thanks for the kind words, VB! Also, thanks for the heads up! Checking out that thread now...
  22. This one today... And tomorrow... Happy Chinese New Year!!
