Today... L: R:
-
Just snapped a couple of wrist shots, since I'm wearing both at the moment...
-
B- The RO/Nautilus Jumbos wear very large- Especially the Royal Oak! It measures out at 38.7mm, yet feels like 41mm - 42mm on tthe wrist; the Nautilus wears about the same (and actually measures out at 42mm, though that's counting the hinges which actually blend in while on the wrist). Their large apperance and feel is due to a number of factors (in my opinion)- -The case length, lug to lug is very long due to the integrated lug design. -The bracelet width is very wide at the first link (26mm), also lending to a very wide feel. -The case height/profile is very thin, thus providing an interesting perception on the height to width ratio. Overall, the Jumbo wears larger than a Rolex, yet sits lower on the wrist, thus making it feel even wider. If you're in the market for a sporty watch that can be worn casually or formally, either are great watches; both are quite versatile...

Patek Aquanaut ref 5060, I believe? 5065 is the Jumbo if I recall correct...

Yes indeed. Genta has had some very successful designs in his time... Very stately, unique and versatile styles which look just as good now as they did in the 70's (in my opinion). I have really come to love his creative uses of sharp, crisp edges contrasting to the traditional round curves; attention to the small details such as the surface transitions from polished to brushed finishes- sometimes in the most subtle of areas, i.e. the inside edges of the joining links of the Royal Oak bracelet, which is just but one example that demonstrates the amount of thought and consideration given in design. The MBK Jumbos are well executed and the level of quality with these pieces is really quite impressive, especially considering the price. These could not have been cheap to produce, yet the factory manufacturing them has managed to turn out well crafted facsimilies with much of the same level of attention to the small details that the gens exhibit. These are watches that I love to wear. I could stare at them all day long (in fact I typically find myself doing just that )...

Thanks everyone for the very kind comments. I have been trying to diversify my collection a bit, though I'm finding that a good portion of it is still a little redundant. I do find my tastes and preferences becoming a bit eclectic and perhaps a little eccentric; these days I'm looking for watches that are metaphorically 'off the beaten path', so to speak. I'm hoping that we'll be seeing some interesting new high quality offerings on the market soon... Preferrably from some different brands that aren't getting due attention in the spotlight Anyhow... Thanks again! All the best... R

Late to the party with a few more Gentas. I think we're headed for quality AND quantity... 15202 (38.6mm) 3700 (42mm) 14790 (36mm) 3800/1A (37mm) Constellation Frankenstein (36mm and yes, it's a Genta design)

Gave the rubber strap a try... On the last hole it's still a bit loose. A little less clumsy as the rubber helps provide some grip with my skin, but I just wish it were a tad bit tighter. Oh, and my wife was giving me greif about the big 'BREI-TLING' script going across the top of the strap... She told me to stick to the Daytonas...

Think you oughta treat yourself to a new watch on this great day, my friend! Happy 1yr anniversary! -
Looking forward to those pics!! Which dial color did you procure?

Thank you, BT I am absolutely loving these Jumbos! My first purchases in quite some time, and I'm finding my interest in watches starting to resurface (which is good, but maybe not so good on the bank account ). The SFSO is indeed an interesting piece! A bit big for me... It seems to feel a little clumsy on my wrist (which is a bit narrow) so it tends to flop about a bit; as such, it's not worn too often. But there's no doubt that it's a fantastic piece!

Currently, have my MBK Royal Oak Jumbo on the wrist... Tomorrow will be my MBK Nautilus Jumbo.

Very cool! I like the funky Bauhaus-esque design...

Glad you revived this thread... I had missed it the first time around, and greatly enjoyed reading about davee's experience and adventures! While reading along, I felt as though I was there with him... Great stuff!

Ok... I retract my prior posting... Thanks to docblackrock's font nerd girlfriend who is an expert in typography ... I know now... (did I get that right?)

randstad- My feelings exactly. This specific piece is something that must be experienced in person. The quality... Finish and level of detail is absolutely amazing. My Nautilus Jumbo has been the majority shareholder on my wrist since I received it. I find myself oft times gazing upon the dial while not paying any attention to the actual time. And, contrary to what many might think, the ear hinges are really not that apparent whilst on the wrist. They sort of blend in, lending to a case that feels quite significant on the wrist, while remaining elegantly slim in relation. It's a rep that I would have no hesitation in giving the highest recommendation on. But, most people probably won't be able to get past it's styling... Anyways... Enjoy your new Nauti! It is indeed a keeper! All the best...

Personally, I like the simplicity of the 92. I doubt I'd ever wear such a watch, but it might make for a neat desk clock...
-
I'll have to research the font... No idea off hand what it might be, but maybe we can figure it out.
-
As predicted... The weekend just wasn't long enough. None the less... I'll still be able to enjoy my Monday with my Nautilus Jumbo strapped to my wrist... Here's to Mondays... Regards... R

F- Yes, the 5711 comes with a display back... And also a 3 piece case (caseback is removable). Not only that, but the 5711 is also 44mm wide, and the hinges/ears are curved (and the recess for the crown is much deeper). The dial is also ever so different- The indicies are angled at the ends to follow the curvature/lines of the bezel. So... There are far more differences than just the seconds hand and the display back... The MBK Jumbo that I have is closer to the 3700, which is 42mm, monocoque design, and straight hinges/ears, which the rep shares in design. If one were to remove the seconds hand on this rep, it would be the 3700.
