Avitt-
Indeed, I do know how that goes. Seems all of my watches are constant works in progress...
Euno-
Fantastic watches. I've always fancied that 1675 frankenstein!
I'd post a pic of my Weds wear... But I have a feeling you all know what it is anyways...
BTW, Pugs... Looks like you've amassed quite the IWC collection there!
Least expected fave.... That would be my Patek 3800/1A Nauti...
Was always on the fence about this one, but when I rec'd it from Omni (of which, I am grateful to him every day), my mind was made up; this one's a keeper!
Just as a thought... One way you can confirm the size of the crown is to see if a stem from an ETA 2836/24/92 threads in. If it does... Then you have a Tap 10 crown...
I gotta say... The pics do not do the 116509 any justice. In person... This is a stellar watch. Very nice finish, great dial, which is a matte finish (harkening back to the vintages), and the case is very nice; very precision. It's got substantial heft to it... And feels quite nice on the wrist.
Not sure that I would pay $25k for it... But none the less, it's a very nice watch.
Case, when I measured mine, is 36mm across the 9:00/3:00 axis, without crown. That being the situation, the bracelet from the new, upcoming 42mm Royal Oak Offshore will not fit Too wide, and too thick; the ROO bracelet is probably going to be thicker than the Classic 14790's case alone. Not to mention, the endlink tabs will be far too big anyways...
I agree, Rima. Very odd that they would fit such a strange bracelet to an otherwise nice watch.
Perhaps they are simply pulling bits from the 'mixed parts' bin...
Vertu's claim to fame is the concierge, I thought? The phone itself is nice, but I was under the impression (from the few Vertu owners that I know) that the whole 'services' deal available with the phone was what set it apart.
I must admit... Those stone set 'click' buttons are neat.
Watches are like cars... The minute you walk out of the boutique with it strapped to your wrist, the watch has already depreciated 30%. So, with that said... Buy pre-owned.
Picked this one up from Jos. I did a very slight mod by swapping the bracelet with one from a different Royal Oak with wider links to better match the case.
For what it's worth, this one has the thin 36mm x 8.5mm case, white metal bezel screws, and the best dial version I've ever seen on a standard 14790 rep.
It's a very difficult job to re-edge a case. To resharpen the edges would mean removing enough material to make the edges crisp again. Your best bet on having this done right is to send the watch into an RSC, as they have specialized equipment to polish and refinish the case properly.
Doc got it. DATE is much larger than the rest of the font. Goofy looking, yes. But, part of it's authenticity... Absolutely.
As for prize? Ummmm... Hmmmm. I'll have to think about that one.
