589s are tough to find too! rosnik- Before I swapped in my 589s on my old 7032, I did have a set of rep 503Bs that were more similar to a 580; I spread the link open a bit and it fit my case pretty well for a temporary fix: However, the gen 503B is an end link intended for the 78390 bracelet on a 16520; polished midlinks and no underside tabs.

380s might be tough to find. But I'll keep an eye out for you guys

Ahhh... The movement came from my old 7032, which had the bridge already fitted. The movement was my gift to the new owner to help get his project going dadog- You may want to pick up both a strap and a bracelet! The MC is a great piece on either, but the different combinations will each lend to a very unique and different appearance to the watch. Always nice for a change! Thanks again for the kind words! The 1665 is definitely a thick watch, but it's hefty proportions are what I like about it. The 40mm diameter case helps keep the size of the case in check; it's got a bit more presence than a 5513 or 1680, but keep in mind that a lot of the perceived height is with the crystal and thicker bezel. On the wrist it wears quite nicely, but whether it works for you is one of those things that can't be easily determined until you try one on. If possible... Go for one of the MBWs if you're going to test drive one. Preferrably modded with gen crystal and insert, drilled lugs and crown/tube if you can find one. Not only will that be a good basis for deciding whether the 1665 is suited to your tastes, it will also give you a good platform for resale if it doesn't strike your fancy. Best of luck

Thanks, gang I hope the new owner likes this one! I've not had a lot of time to do projects for people (let alone myself), but this one was one I promised to my friend many, many months back. Better late than never, I suppose?

There's one primary reason why I use gen bars- Strength. I've had some watches come in with aftermarket bars that had their springs fail after a couple of compressions between my index finger and thumb. The pivot would just collapse inside the tube body. With gen bars, you can press the pivots in over and over and over again and they still retain their strength.

Been rather busy these past few days, but had a chance to put this long term project together for a friend. This has been on the drawing board for months... Availability of the case/dial/hands helped this one come to light a little sooner than I thought. There's still a few other details to be hashed out, but here's the rough draft... This should look good paired to say... A certain member's 5517, I think?

Looks like a nice case and overall decent dial. I do agree with the position of the subdial as well as date; being so inboard, I would think that this watch is comprised of a huge case and tiny little movement inside? I'd probably like the dial aesthetics a bit more if the date were positioned closer to the outside edge of the dial, and perhaps a bit larger (a la Big Pilot). But for sake of simplicity, it's a very nice design overall.

B- The hands are angled down to reduce parallax errors. Nothing to be worried about.

I had some custom dials commissioned when I was building my 5514- While still not perfect, they turned out fairly well methinks. The custom dial is on the right; a gen dial for comparison is on the left.

krp- You are correct. The pieces sold in Costco are typically grey market; warranty may no longer be valid. In the case of Omega, the serial might have a strike through, indicating it as such a piece. I also wonder how Patek would feel about their prestigious brand being offloaded at a Costco

For a 702, yes

Not the best meters first I've seen, but for a reproduction/repaint/aftermarket/non-genuine it's not terrible either compared to some of the others out there. There are aspects to the dial you posted that are not quite as precise or accurate; font type/spacing for this era of dial being one, marker shape/size, coronet, etc. It's a dial that will be identified rather easily by folks that know their 5513s (in my opinion). To the majority of others out there that aren't familiar with the minutiae of such things, it probably won't matter. I've seen some plain meters first genuine matte dials selling for pretty low; some have minor scuffs and the outer edge of the chapter worn off from installation, but overall usable. That might be a good option for a keeper piece?
