If somebody can say whether a a21j stem would fit I have an extra I could send you. Sometimes on the a21j (I'm too cheap to buy an ETA!) you have to depress the "latch" while pressing in the stem and slightly turning it back and forth all at the same time to get it to go in! It sometimes seems that you had to have gotten up on the proper side of the bed, parted your hair on the correct side, AND were lucky enough for the planets to be in the proper alignment - not really but it seems like it!
Slick, your English is just fine, cost reduction is "bean-counter" for "streamlining the production line in order to maximize profit"! Plus, they were probably tired of creating "collector's items" because their highly skilled workforce put the wrong parts in on occasion!
On your first clasp pic it looks like you got a loose screw, I'd hate for it to drop off in the garbage disposal!! I don't think I've ever bought a rep that had all the band screws tight and the last had only one that was snug!
Slick, when I was in the computer industry I was on the engineering change control board for a major manufacturer and changes like this were titled "cost reduction"...
Lani, Ubi, I don't know what to say... I'm rarely at a loss for words, or a smart-a$$ comment of some sorts, but, I'm a total blank right now! I've just started the level 1 timezone course so maybe when I get it finished I'd stand half a chance of putting a 7750 back together with the assistance of Pug's animated "manual".
Good review! This would be considered a "mid-size"? The Turn-O-Graph I just got I think starts out as a Datejust (that's what dial says) and it is very comfortable to wear.
I guess anybody that has "known" you for more than a day or two would probably ask, "What are you gonna make out of it?"
Not wanting to be a thread hi-jacker, but, Toad, is there a "burgeon type" chuck/die made for the larger backs like the DSSD yet? I can't get mine off with the Sticky-Ball and I need to regulate it...
alli, I noticed that. The picture on their web site shows open 6 and 9 but what I received is closed. Maybe if I e-mailed them they might have some "old stock" laying around for vintage projects.
Slick, Oh, didn't know there was a difference the picture just looks like it was a simulated "age yellowing".
Why can't they leave a good thing be!!??
Most likely into my Noobmariner so I suspect that makes it "modern". They have another date wheel which is sort of "yellowed" which might be for vintage pieces...
I received my date wheel from Cubic Works ( http://www.cubic-works.com/ ) yesterday and will probably try to glue it onto one of the new tall canon 4813 movements I recently received from eurotimez. When I asked about date wheels the suggestion for this part indicated it was OK but had open sixes and nines. They have appartently change their design as I received a wheel with closed sizes and nines.
This is what it looks like:
The dial on your Franken (which is drop-dead gorgeous) has about the same spacing than that on my a21j, at least visually. I think I can live with the wider spacing (hoping for the new movement you mentioned) and maybe it won't be as noticeable on the black faced dial. At least the case should be slimmer than the seconds at 6 since there is no additional bridge, correct?
Hike, I ordered from tr..., he gave me an additional discount on both the watch AND shipping since I'm a repeat customer...
ubi, is it a correct statement, then, that any Daytona using the A7750 movement will have incorrect subdial spacing or is it ONLY on the seconds at 9? The spacing won't bother me too much as the only time I'll wear it (probably) is when I know I might need a stopwatch. The beater Sub will stay on the wrist during working hours...
I think that with a couple of simple mods this will look fantastic on the wrist especially for $85! I will thin the CG, re-drill the lug holes, and install different spring bars - cost of watch with mods at this point = $89. I may do a crystal, I'll have to think on it...
Geeze, I've gotten so used to so many reps having a gigantic crown it didn't even sink in on me! I just changed the crown and tube on my Noobmariner the other night and it made the watch look 100% better!
My trevorwatch DRSD is supposed to ship today as I just approved the QC pictures and to me it doesn't look half bad for $85. It needs the CGs to be put on a diet and the lug holes addressed, but what's new! A couple of the pix are a bit blurry but at least the ones of the dial are crystal clear. Here's a sneak-peek:
More pictures and a critique are forthcoming once I receive it.
I thought I'd read that about the spacing but wasn't 100%sure, hopefully it won't be as noticeable on the wrist as it does in all of these macro shots we've grown so fond of. Makes me wonder if that's why some people never seem to be happy/satisfied with whatever rep they are looking at!
I'll check out Robert but $175 is about as cheap as I've ever seen... I'm gonna do it!
