  1. I, too, was the lucky recipient of a hand-me-down LH dial. I went the "budget" route and was pretty much all rep. This would be the cost to duplicate my version: Rep DJ case for 2824 movement (comes with movement spacer) $35 Bezel - $45 Drill lugs - $40 Ofrei springbars $6 Rep riveted bracelet $35 Rep hands tinted to near match to dial $10 Asian 2824-2 - $85 Clark T22 crystal - $7 Total - $218
  2. Thanks for causing me to drool on my shirt, R... I'm wearing it's poor second cousin's red-headed stepchild!
  3. Generally under $100. All of the ones I've used have been fine other than two DOAs. The DOAs were repaired with Swiss ETA parts and were fine afterwards.
  4. Here's my contribution to the Tudor stew...
  5. I used a generic "Super Dome" and it was a direct swap, IIRC...
  6. The decals were printed on an ALPS MD5000 which prints white/gold so they are applied over whatever color you want the dial to be. As far as lume, I've been using Glow, Inc watch lume and although it is easy to tint with acrylic paint, and glows all night, I'm not really happy with the surface "texture" and it dries rather translucent. This translucency requires you to have some light color (white, yellowish, etc) on the dial where your markers are as it will show through. I think the binder is a water-based latex as it seems a bit rubbery. I re-lumed a set of hands somebody sent me for a project with a Luminova kit he sent with them and I like the way it flowed out and looked so I ordered a kit and I'm fixin' to make another "Blue Snowflake" dial and will use the Luminova. I believe the Luminova kit uses a lacquer binder.
  7. I kinda like it! Although I really got burned out on DSSDs and no longer own one I like the concept. So, it 's going to be parkerized? That should be a pretty durable finish. I could easily see me wearing this as a regular Sea Dweller...
  8. I got up wondering what TeeJay would wear so I grabbed this...
  9. That looks super! My hat's off to ya and I can put this project to the back of the shelf with a clear conscience! I guess I'll have plenty of time to look for a smaller cutter and as far as the color it was the only Red and Blue I had laying around...
  10. No, you will need hands for ETA movement if you use the 2783 - I would just use the a21j that comes in it. Looking at the timer screen the .7 msec beat error seems quite high. I always try to adjust mint to no more than .3 and I try to get .1 or .2. The Cartel case-back should be thick enough to mill flat and engrave and once the CGs are re-shaped and a slimmer crown is installed they won't look so bad.
  11. Let me preface this by saying I have no intention to become an "insert factory", I'm sure someone else will fill that void. If I can ever get it right I may make available the "raw" engraved discs and folks can sculpt and paint them as desired. I've milled this one from .0625" Lexan which should make for a virtually unbreakable insert. On this attempt I'm thinking that the font is way too bold on this but just wanting verification. This was milled with a .5mm ball-nose cutter to a depth of .006". Comments solicited.
  12. I s'pose she coulda screeched, "You buy another $200 watch and I'm kicking your a$$"!!!
  13. If it's just a flat nylon washer it should be fairly easy to fabricate if the dimensions were known...
  14. VR44 - The ETA is more of a standard and it will be easier to find different styles of hands for ETA.
  15. Your basic a21j is also 21600 vps but you will be limited on hand choices. I made this one with a decal I brewed up... I used a cheapo rep case, glued in a generic "Super Dome", slimmed the crown in the lathe, and enlarged the lug-holes.
  16. Yeah, Rob, it's turned into my favorite Sub and I may be forced to get rid of the rest of 'em!
