Hey guys, As stated in my review the AP Diver V3 has a cyclopse that is too blue compared with the gen. Since not a lot of modders are able to mod this I started thinking about making a new cyclopse with AR. This has been proposed by me to Uwe and he has made some for the ROO's a while ago. But since he has health/family problems I needed to look for another source. Member Big Crown succeeded an amazing project to make some Rolex crystals with AR'ed cyclopses. I contacted him and he is willing to do this. Is there any interest in this? I started this thread @ RG but I wanted to share this to the other fora. The more we are interested in the more we might have a chance to keep the costs down. There will be 2 treasurers, 1 for CONUS/Asia and 1 for EU. All info will be given by the time the sample is finished. Please add your name to the list if you would be interested. - Edgematic (2)

Is this price justified for a used Gen Safari strap?
edgematic1 replied to greekgod's topic in The Audemars Piguet Area
imo they are kinda worth it, it's a lot of money but nothing beats the gen AP hornbacks... -
I have used asian7750 for a large order $5k+, about a year ago, no problems, shipped in 3 different packages.

Nope, your only chance is an AD or APbands. AP themselves sell white, black, brown and blue afaik.

Any decent places to buy watches in thailand?

The only decent rep you'll find in MBK right now is the MBW Patek Philippe Nautilus, I couldn't find any decent ones in BKK -

Yep, an AP Boutique will get you the best price. A watch dealer with various brands will sell straps etc at a much higher price. -

Since this is a topic that raises a lot of questions I have decided to post a how to do it here. It is copied from the Timetapestry blog. I had always intended to get round to doing this and I am pleased to note that another kind soul has done it and is kind enough to allow me to reproduce his AP strap changing images. so first off, credit where credit is due to Wirinhar on Horomundi AP forums. Of course this process is much simplified with a tool from AP, which to my knowledge they don't give or sell but similar tools may be available perhaps, but if you don't have that tool than using 2 screwdrivers will do the trick but that may take a lot of elbow grease if the loctite is uh... tight. So the images cropped & revised by me and the raphmeisters instructions and advice on changing the shoes(read straps) on the Royal Oak Offshore Step 1: Get your tools ready... These will include 1.6mm (some advocate 2.0mm) screwdriver (1 or 2 depending), the holder(not the right term but its gonna be referenced as that, toothpick, tweezers, clean area that you won't lose screws easily in. (google "bergeon precision tools" & "Bergeon 6730 Bracelet Screw Holding Base" to find what u need... Possible choices Bergeon screwdrivers 6895's, 6896's and 6901's here and the stopper (bracelet adjustment) here) Potentially instead of the holder, a mini bench vice and cleverly positioned holders for a screwdriver could do the trick... If the loctite is tight, a little indirect warming with a hairdryer may be necessary but don't fry the watch yuh (do this at your own risk) Step 2: Hold er steady... Put one end of the screw on the holder so that it holds the screw in place... You do this cause AP screws have a female and male end that screw together in the middle Step 3: 2 screws are better than 1... Use the screwdriver to unscrew the top screw whilst the bottom is held by the holder Step 4: Remove em screws... Gently take out the small screw bit with a pair of tweezers Step 5: Remove the er... other screw... U don't have to use a toothpick yuh as long as you get somethin that can poke out the other screw part & VOILA! Magic... the strap is off fine naked body... uhm watch body that is... best to use the same screws for the same plots Step 6: Put on the new strap... Put one end of the screw in... ... rest it on the holder, make sure its steady and screw it back in Step 7: Simply unscrew the buckle ... and extract the metal pin holding the deployant buckle in place... QED Step 8: Enjoy your lovely new strap on your gorgeous Royal Oak Offshore

Hey guys, Last weekend I went to see my cousin in Paris. After a great night out I've attented the AP Royal Oak Exhibition in Paris, with a headache... The exhibition is going around the world and from the 6th until the 10th of June it was located in Paris, at Palais de Tokyo. It is being held for the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak model, designed by Gerald Genta. While I was there I took some pics (allthough I thought that was forbidden during the NY exhibition?). Due to the spotlights it was hard to take good pics but at least you get the impression of the exhibition. There were around 100 pieces stalled out and it was a wonderful exhibition for each AP fan. One thing, all those watches were covered in dust... There was a watchmaker at the exhibition who examined timepieces of the attendees. Enough talking, onto the pics. first AP ROO model

Try Jacobstraps, best AP strapmaker imo. Best price vs quality. -

Because a member was looking for more info on a rep AP box I am posting this. I thought I posted it here when I originally wrote it but apparently I did not. So here you go: Hi there! Because there is no detailed review of rep box set for AP around here afaik, I wrote this one. I would not expect much, I'm currently in my appartment where I study and don't have much useful stuff to take pics round here right now. Pics are taken with an iPhone. This box can be bought at ReplicaMake. I'm sure other trusted dealers can get this box as well. I got this from a Chinese bloke that sourced it for me, after I got to know it existed I informed Lay and asked him to upload it on his website. Shipped on the 22nd of December using Chinapost, received today (should have been yesterday if the postman wasn't too lazy to ring my bell!). No problems with customs, only had to pay €10 handling fee Now the review, We're talking about a rep box that has costed me $95 incl. shipment. The weight of everything together is heavy, gives a gen feel. This is my 2nd rep box (had an omega box, but sold it and bought the gen). I also had a gen Hublot box (for my Luna Rossa LE series) that I also sold. Now I bought this one out of curiosity and because I like watch box sets. Here are some pictures (all pics are iPhonepics): Looks like I've been to an AP Boutique (look at the misspelling of the 2nd A in Audemars) The outer box-printing looks spot on, crisp printing the box is nicely covered from dust here it is, the box: the booklets: the booklets are very well finished and have a high quality feel, they are heavy and full colour, I am very amazed by the finishing of it. now back to the real stuff, printing on top is a bit too low as per gen (based upon pics) but very crisp although it's not a dial nice underside huh, inside: first flaw is the logo, it's missing slogan "Le maître de l'horlogerie depuis 1875" under the logo but the printing is very crisp. the pillow sits a bit too loose, but that does not bother me at all, the leather is also very well replicated closing&opening button functions well and looks well repped other flaw: the border around the part where the creamy leather is should have a wooden structure, this one hasn't, it's matte I guess you guys have seen the whole box by now And a video for the interested ones (2min15, quite long for a box...): I'm really glad I bought this box, it feels of good quality and looks just as good, it has it's flaws just like our watches, but imo the flaws are subtle. Now a comparison between gen and rep box: Gen on the right, The outer box has a different finishing, the gen feels more rough, the rep is somewhat smoother, also notice the difference in colours. The logo positioning is spot on. Before I forget to mention, the weight of the boxes feels the same. gen on the right, when taking off the outer box you notice that the gen box is lighter than the rep box, the rep box sometimes looks black in some angles. The rep box looks more brownish, the gen box looks somewhat red-brownish. Also notice the difference in height concerning the logo positioning, the rep is lower than the gen. When opening the box you notice the biggest difference, the inside. gen on the right: the biggest tell to me is the finishing of the wood (you need to look good, but on the gen you can see the "veins" of the wood, on the rep you see smooth finished edges. Also notice the difference in the leather, on the rep it looks somewhat brighter than on the gen: Gen: Rep: Inner printing, the gen is better finished, the silver lettering reflects more than on the rep. (the missing text under the logo on the rep is not a flaw, some gen boxes come like this, however, even on the rep boxes there seem to be 2 versions, 1 with and 1 without text, I like the text better). Positioning is the same gen: rep: Last comparison pics, the push-button on the boxes, on the gen it is smaller, the hole where the pin fit's is better finished on the gen. The pin on the rep is longer than on the gen. Notice the colour difference on these pics: gen: rep: gen: rep: Conclusion: The rep box is close, very close, the flaws are small imo and the rep box is worth the money, offcourse if you can source a gen box like me you pay the same price (but you won't get any booklets). Now, let's hope I receive my AP's soon... Been waiting since the 15th of December and man, that takes LONG! Thanks for reading.

Audemars Piguet Diver V3 Review with Gen-Rep Pics
edgematic1 replied to edgematic1's topic in The Audemars Piguet Area
Thanks Roger for your input. Concerning the crystal I have to disagree, having discussed this with a gen owner and having compared them both I think the crystal is almost indistinguishable. You are right about the lume. Imo no superlume has been used although Angus told me it has been used but it has been mixed and that would be the reason why it is not strong. As for the AR ont the cyclopse, so far no modder who can help me out, VAC can't do it he told me. There is no modder with the correct AR tint other than Chieftang. Chieftang's AR could do the trick imo. As for the conversion to the ETA2846, I have dissassembled the V3 today to perform the transplantation, but without succes. The part that makes the datewheel click to the next date (via the crown) is needed to get transplanted as well because the teeth of the DW from the 2824 are slightly larger than the 2846. The part fitted but it kept being loose so the date mechanism does not work well. Otherwise the transplant would have worked. So far no 21600bph mod yet. Any other ideas? -
check out my gen-rep review if you are interested, it should be on here somewhere as well, if you don't find it send me a pm
