  1. the inserts are pushed in to a degree but if they come off that easily even with some sticky tape there I'd rather put some glue on and make sure it doesnt fall off again
  2. Yea I've tried all sorts of putty and some were just too soft or too hard to get enough friction. This one seems to work really well. Unless the caseback was put on by Chuck Norris this stuff should open them all
  3. Hey guys just wanted to share a type of firm putty I found which I use to open up screw type casebacks. I found the advantages were: Doesnt scratch the casebacks (pretty important for fussy people like myself) Works far better than the Horb balls because you can squish the putty down onto the caseback and it gives it a better surface to surface contact and since the putty is slightly sticky it grips well to the caseback No need for special dies for Rolex or Breitling casebacks So far I've managed to open all the watches I have that are the screw down type casebacks and found it very useful for checking if the movement is the movement stated in the watch or general watch repair. What do you guys think? I've asked Nanuq for his blessing and can offer this to members. See sales section please.
  4. I havent heard from him in about a month. Sent him a message to his email address too and no reply. Hope hes ok too
  5. Yea I tried contacting Concepta too with no response
  6. Superglue sure does. Sticks like s**t to a blanket
  7. Oh boy oh boy those are some nice subs!
  8. Take the sticky tape off it and use some GS-Hypo Cement. If you want to make sure it doesnt come off again use a toothpick and carefully put some superglue around the edge of the bezel then place the insert into position making sure it is aligned properly before u push it into place. Remember less is more if your using superglue, the worst thing to happen is too put too much on and it squeezing out of the edge and through to the front of the insert.
  9. Best bet it to drop them a message and simply ask. Im sure it wouldnt be an issue making a belt
  10. Yea its still awfully slow here in Ireland. I know a girl who managed to get work in a firm in Boston with plenty of perks and I have better experience than her. I suppose the work is there just need to find the right place at the right time. Finding decent work in Ireland so far is like finding a needle in a haystack
  11. I've spent a few years working on educational buildings. Nearly got a job with a firm who specialises in one off housing and have the comfort of being able to pick and choose their clients. Unfortunately I was runner up in that job hunt but a firm like that would be great. Who says I would never become a great architect. You only go as far as the ceiling you set yourself.
  12. Thanks mate I'm already on Linkedin just a real pain finding a half decent firm to build up good experience.
  13. Hey guys as most of you know the construction industry has taken a major hit over the last few years especially in Ireland. Having spent 7 years studying, its been extremely tough trying to find work as an architectural assistant or technician. I've always wanted to travel to work and I still have options to travel to Hong Kong for work but I'd love to work in San Francisco, New York or London for a few years. My other option at the moment is an extreme career change, after studying for so long the search for a decent job locally in architecture put me off. Most are extremely underpaid, expecting any overtime to be covered without pay and the projects are quite mundane and extremely cost driven. Just wondering how many architects happen to be here if any and would you be looking to take on a hard working architectural assistant?
  14. Can you take some close up photos of the crown engraving and pearl please?
  15. I think we should all submit some offers
  16. Hmm is the actual V2 out or still just the V1.5 with some of the updates not all of them? To be honest I still think the shape of the pearl is off and the new thinner engraving on the crown is off. The V1 crown can be rounded and sanded slightly and it would be closer to gen than the new thinner engraved version.
  17. Yea 99% of the times something goes wrong. I think I need to source a new pallet fork as one of the pallets is loose and I also need a new balance [censored] assembly but the complete balance [censored] is not available anymore?
  18. On closer inspection there was a pallet stone which was slightly out of position causing the power reserve to be released. Movement is now running! Thanks for all the input guys, I'm loving the 'I broke it but now I've fixed it' feeling!
  19. Ok I found the problem I used a screw which was too long for the balance [censored] and it protruded into the keyless area and stopped some parts from engaging but turns out the problem I had with the power reserved releasing itself is still there :S Maybe a broken jewel? It seems odd that the power reserve releases itself and just unwinds?
  20. The small spring was in the correct position but there doesnt seem to be any friction between the stem and winding pinion :S
  21. I swapped the pallet fork and voila it runs again! Must be a very small problem with the other pallet fork. But guess what now I have a new problem! Now I cant manually wind the movement when the crown is set to the winding position it just spins round without catching. At the movement the autowinding bridge is off and everything looks to be in the right place, the keyless works are fine and I can set the time fine and the stem itself is fine as it works ok on another movement, I'm stumped! Definitely not easy playing around with these movements. Have I done another stupid thing?
  22. Hmm the pallet fork looks fine ( I compared it with another one and theres no damage) but its doing what you describe as releasing the power reserve :s what have I done
  23. The click spring and click are in the right position and the ratchet wheel (I think thats what it is called) doesnt unwind as the rest of the gears unwind. Could it be anything else?
  24. Hi guys please chime in with some advice or ideas here: I was taking apart a working ETA 2836 clone to self teach the workings of an ETA 2836 movement. I managed to re-assemble it and got it working perfectly apart from it stopped at exactly the same time each time I left it running, not an issue I took it apart again and found there was a small particle on one of the gears causing it to jam and stop at the same position each time. I re-assembled the movement again and this time found that when I wind the movement manually it discharges itself straight away, unwinding the mainspring barrel and turning the intermediate wheel, third wheel and second wheel rapidly. Have I broken a jewel somewhere or done something silly? I have looked everywhere for damage and cant see anything out of the ordinary.
