  1. @Automatico, I'd love to see some pics of your 1016 if you have some. I've had one of these in the pipeline for about a year, but my dial and hands don't match so I haven't started wearing it yet. I can't decide whether I ought to have them both re-lumed or wheather I should just get a new set that matches.
  2. @Steve-Roling-who used to sell many cases on ebay is a very reliable source for these. I don't have his contact info on my laptop, but I'll send you a PM later once I can get on my home pc where I have his email address stored. As SlickDick mentioned, Stilty, a member on the board has movement adapter rings that will simplify your build significantly. There are lots of folks on the board that will help along the way. The Explorer is probably the simplest of the frankens to build and a handsome piece. I wear mine nearly every day.
  3. And looking mighty fine! Nice score. Doesn't look like that has seen much wear in the past.
  4. @Freddy, thanks for the word of caution. @Fakey, these are sized to accept genuine movement similar to a Phong case, just around $900 cheaper Not trying to offer any endorsement, just sharing the find for folks who may want a cheaper option than Phong or NDT for a decent looking case that will take a genuine movement. I've always thought that Phong and NDT were way overpriced for similar parts. Looks like the lugs holes are sized to take genuine spring bars and the crown guards look pretty good too. The other option in this price range is MBW and we all know the pitfalls associated with those.
  5. Looks like Yukiwatch has started carrying some aftermarket cases along with their dials. The price looks pretty damn good compared to NDT or Phong. It's nice to see that someone has these parts priced realistically, as Phong and NDT are way too high. I'm glad to see that they have a little competition. Here's the link to the page with the cases http://www.yukiwatch.com/watch_parts.html
  6. Freddy, best of luck to you on your search. What you've got so far is looking good. Patience and persistence will prevail. It took me over four years to cobble together my 1675. The genuine case came first, then a bad re-dial, then aftermarket hands, then an aftermarket bezel assbly and finally a genuine 1565 GMT movement. After four years of collecting parts when I found them at the right price I ended up with a decent gmt with only about $1450 invested. The dial and hands do suck, but will get replaced one of these days. P.S. Sorry for hijacking your thread.
  7. I think I'd remove the date ring and related date parts and drop the 3035 in to a 16200 case with a genuine Explorer I dial, remove the cyclops and you'd have a good looking, almost genuine Explorer I 14270. The genuine cases are plentiful, pretty cheap and parts are easy to find. With the rep cases there are too many variables to suit me. Just my opinion of course.
  8. Diesel, sorry to hear about the postal service hosing you for the taxes and fees, but consider it cheap insurance against future water damage. I have tested a couple of sets of DW pushers in the water-proof tester and they all leaked like a sieve under pressure. I've never seen so many bubbles coming out of one watch. The pushers, taxes and fees are probably far cheaper than a new movement and dial.
  9. Sorry to hear your mis-fortune on this deal. Seeing it for sale for a huge price only adds insult to injury.
  10. @Freddy, I copied and pasted the movement parts list from the Borel website for the 1036 GMT below for your reference. It looks like they may have some of the parts your looking for. 11. Cool. It's a great looking piece. Please share some pics when you finish the lug holes and dial.
  12. Nice work! Did you have a bezel for the 1016 or did you modify the bezel from the 16200?
  13. Wow that's gorgeous. I too love the 5513 with the metal indices. Nice work!
  14. Stilty that's a fine looking project you've got brewing there. I'm looking forward to seeing that pair when you get around to finishing them up.
  15. Thanks for the positive comments guys. Sometimes you get lucky when franken-building and everything fits without raising your blood pressure!
  16. I hate to get off topic, but somebody may have interest in doing a similar, but simpler project. As Stilty mentioned the eta 2000 is a great choice to replace a 2135 or 2035 movement. I assembled a watch for my wife with a 6718 case with an eta 2000 movement. This is a very straightforward project without the hassles of spacers, date disc overlays, date alignment or other tedious details. The movement fits nearly perfectly (diameter) and the stem lines up perfectly. Dial feet were removed and dial was installed with adhesive dots. For a simple watch thats nice looking this franken is hard to beat. Here's a couple of pics (hand alignment has since been fixed).
  17. The hands will clear the dial but just barely. It is noticeable if you look carefully. Sorry I don't have a pic of the dial with the hands installed, I decided to use the movement in a franken-explorer instead and removed the hands and dial.
  18. I was going to install a 1520 in an MBW 5513 case and it didn't fit correctly. You either have to have the date ring as on a 1570 date movement or use a spacer under the dial. Kinda sucks, but way cheaper than a vietnamese case.
  19. I love my Franken Explorer and wear it almost every day. It looks good with a suit, jeans, shorts pretty much anything. Kind of like a sport datejust.
