  1. I purchased a gen one of these at neiman marcus today: http://us.burberry.com/store/mens-accessories/iconic-checks/haymarket/prod-38268711-medium-vintage-haymarket-check-messenger-bag/ I liked it a lot and it fits my 15" macbook perfectly. I was checking out a lot of other messenger bags, and this one I liked the most. I was carrying it around today after I bought it and had several girls complement me on it today, so I'm happy with my choice.
  2. Yep. I have some gen watches and it's shocking what the difference in dial printing quality between quality swiss and a rep is like under magnification. The swiss is perfect, crisp, the rep with its fuzzy edges is shocking under the loupe. When you start handling a lot of watches, gen and rep, you'll start to see the difference in the small details with your eyes too. Thats why I'm always very confused by people that tell stories (not necessarily here) of a jeweler or pawnshop thinking a rep is real. Unless its a very good franken, they'd have to be absolutely blind to think an off the shelf rep is real.
  3. The superavenger is fairly accurate if you go with the black dial. One big tell however is that the non pvd model dial has a bad breitling logo. It's missing the loop in the B, despite being correct on other replicas. At 48.6mm the superavenger is way too big if you have small wrists, it will look a bit comical, however some people like that. I personally passed on the off-the-peg superavenger because of the bad logo, however the other day I picked up a franken with a genuine dial. I also really like the skyland avenger, so I would recommend it for a smaller wrist. At 45mm it's not as overwhelming.
  4. I think it works with the white dial. I think the SA looks much less vulgar with the white dial. Because of that in my opinion the gator strap works well. On the other hand I just picked up a black gen dial SA with gen pro 2 band and I don't think I could go gator with it. The contrast of the black dial and the polished markers and shiny bezel make it look very vulgar. That being said, I like vulgar so I'm keeping the pro 2 band on it as it seems to match. I think a gator strap on mine would look weird, classy looking band, vulgar looking watch. @maxman I don't know that it would work with the blue dial either :-/. Try it out!
  5. My recent purchase arrived today, SA V3 with gen dial and gen pro II bracelet:
  6. Founded in 1856 by James Alexander Holden, in 1885 the establishment combined with the carriage builder Henry Frost to become Holden & Frost. In 1908 it moved into the automotive field, trimming motor vehicles and in 1914 they built their first one-off car body for an imported chassis, with larger contracts following. The firm became a subsidiary of the US-based General Motors (GM) automotive group in 1931, and resultantly retitled General Motors-Holden's Ltd.
  7. The problem with the German cars now is that everything is planned obsolescence. It's all plastic built to break. From VW to BMW and MB, they're all cars you should only buy new and then let some sucker deal with all the problems three years later. The problems range from simple things like dip stick tubes being plastic and crumbling into the engine when used to bigger problems like the coolant transfer pipe in BMW failing and requiring essentially a tear down of the motor to replace. My friend who has a 6 series was quoted something like $6 or $7k to fix a coolant leak... He found a collapsable aftermarket pipe that costs a lot less to install because it doesn't require tearing apart the motor to install, but still not cheap. Apparently this is a very common failure point, hence the aftermarket solution. While the US cars are built of plastic on the inside, the drive train itself tends to be very solid. The trim will all fall apart on an american car, but the engine and the trans, especially on GMs, will last. The SBC engine is quite popular for this reason. The German market on the other hand seems to be the opposite, nice trims but the drive train isn't built to last.
  8. The CTS-V is basically Australian too, the Sigma platform, so it's US made based on Holden. As far as Holden itself, it's not an american export, Holden are Australian made, but GM bought Holden some time ago so they use American engines. Also I think you're thinking of Ford Mondeo which is sold outside of the US and is essentially a Ford Fusion. The Hodlen Monaro was what was sold as a re-badge Pontiac GTO in the US, similar to how the Pontiac G8 was a re-badged Holden Commodore, which is a car I own, they were both actually Australian made, rebadged and shipped here. I love my G8, no complaints on build quality.
  9. Which Ferrari was it cloned of? As far as I remember it was made in order to compete with Ferrari in endurance racing, but I don't remember it being a clone. I do know for sure that there are more than 1 left in existence. They go for quite a lot of money though, over a million, maybe even 2. Though to be fair it was a British-American venture.
  10. My daily driver is a lightly modded 2009.5 Pontiac G8 GT which I love. To be fair it's Australian, known as the Holden Commodore SS. Best american cars from the later model classics would probably be Fords, ie Escorts, etc... I know they were not amazing and I'm not a Ford guy, but they were good cars in terms of build and what you got for your buck. You also can't forget the Ford GT40. If we're looking at originality and innovative design I'd say the GT40 had that. The problem with many chevy's is the lack of innovation. The corvette still rocks leaf springs if I'm not mistaken. At the same time if you want horsepower, bang for buck, you can't go wrong with american muscle, mustangs, camaros, corvettes, g8, the new SS that's supposed to be coming out, and don't forget the CTS-V.
  11. I would suggest considering a used gen, such as a TAG, or even a Tissot. You won't pay THAT much more over a quality rep, especially a franken rep. Most reps have tells, for one the quality of the print and materials is not as fine. If you're holding a gen swiss watch and a rep (even different brands) and have a good eye, you can tell that the rep isn't as fine. The printing on my gens is perfect, the engravings are crisp, etc.. The reps aren't as crisp, you can see the printing is a tad fuzzy, etc... Most people can't tell though, it requires knowing what to look at and some concentration. I'd say someone who is into gens and reps would be most likely to tell. As far as being able to pass it off. I have both gens and reps, I've never been questioned about the authenticity of my watches. It depends on how you carry and present yourself. If you're stepping out of a 96 honda civic in a walmart shirt and jeans wearing a $5-10k watch, people may wonder what's up, even if they don't suspect it's fake, they may suspect you have priority issues in life.
  12. My daily go to smell is the YSL L'homme (original) cologne.
  13. Thanks. Here is my second attempt at a 24mm strap.
  14. So I decided to try making a 24mm leather strap for the first time. It didn't come out particularly amazing, but it's definitely a working strap. I'm going to be trying to improve the stitching and cutting quality on my next attempt. Any of you guys make your own straps? EDIT: LOL just saw there is a whole thread about making straps below mine. Funny, I used most of these same tools, etc...
  15. Hey guys, so I purchased a modded PAM 063 from a member here. It's real nice except it's not waterproof. I removed the movement and tested it to 8atm and it leaked badly. I inspected the seals and the case back is not very good. Furthermore the first o-ring on the crown is broken. The movement is a Swiss ETA 2893-2 movement. Where can I source repair parts? I'm in need of an o-ring and the case back seal? Do those "assortment kits" of gaskets and o-rings for watch repair that you see on Amazon work or are they all cheap crap? Would I be better off finding a watch repair shop locally?
  16. I'm not sure if the chinese are replicating that particular watch. Try the other TDs in the list on this forum. If not you can always go to an AD and try on the gen watch and see how it is. It's not a very expensive watch.
  17. Just got this beauty from pizzanooo's sale thread in the mail this morning. PAM 063 with some mods.
  18. The teeth bother me the most. Eyes I don't notice that much, maybe the mask helps, not sure I'll look out for it on my vacation. Ears I can feel, but it doesn't bother me. It's just those teeth... ugh... i hate that feeling.
  19. I may have to break down and buy one of the 5555-98s at some point. I was going through all my watches, gens, reps, etc.. and by the end of testing my home-made system was having trouble holding 6atm. I was surprised that my chrono reps held 6atm, maybe lucky .
  20. That should be an easy test, just add some links to it and see if the problem stops. I've never heard of xwatchesoutlet.com. Our trusted dealers list is here: http://www.rwg.cc/forum/230-watches-clothing-accessories/ I personally buy my off the shelf (unmodded, straight from china) replicas from Joshua. He's ships from china, has great communication and has always treated me well. I shop from Joshua's site here: http://www.1-pc8838.com/index.php For other watches I shop the other dealers and the trading section.
