  1. This insert will fit, but I am not sure if the font is the same. My guess it that no one will know It is a very nice insert.
  2. It wasn't cheap, but the font looks good to me and the acrylic pearl fits perfectly. I deepened the rehaut of the bezel rather than grind the hell out of the insert. It worked perfectly. http://www.pmwf.com/Watches/WATCHSALES04/W...orRolex1680.htm
  3. Maybe I should have said "not for the small wristed." It is a pretty big watch
  4. This is very nice Thank you Stanley!
  5. The finished product A lot of this had been covered in other posts, but I will try to summarize what I did. The rep tube, like the gen, is friction fit. I assume it is installed with some sort of press and the tube or case may be heated. I am not really sure about that though. The gen tube is smaller than the rep tube, so it will need to be glued. I used Gorilla glue, which works very well. Rather than removing the rep tube with a screw extractor (the only way to get it out), I choose to grind the rep tube flush with the case and then broached the hole using a drill bit that was slightly smaller than the gen tube (but larger than the hole with the rep tube still in place). The bit I used was approx. 2.3 mm. You can actually ream out the hole by applying a little sideways pressure on the bit while moving it up and down it the hole. Be gentile and take your time. I used a cobalt bit and it cut quickly. What you end up with is a sleeve of metal (the old tube) that makes the hole the correct size. I was able to get the gen tube to fit snug in the case and actually press fit it using very little glue. Gorilla glue does expand, you do not need to use a lot of it and you do need to clamp the case/tube until the glue cures. The only other thing I needed to do was to shorten the stem by a mm or two. This method worked very well for me. Please keep in mind that I am not a watch doctor, nor do I claim to be an expert at this. I am just brazen enough to try to fix things myself. My best piece of advice, take your time, work slowly, put your tools down and take a break if something is not working and DO NOT force parts together! Mechanical things, especially watches, do not respond well to this kind of treatment
  6. I agree with Rep on this one. It deserves a gen bracelet

  8. I will put up some detailed descriptions on how I got this far later tonight.
  9. I want to do the lume aging, or I may try an aged aftermarket dial if I can find a good one. I need some dials to practice on first. The bezels are original. I tried the Clark on the 1680, but it would not turn. It was that tight. I messed with it for a couple of days and then gave up

  11. I agree. It is the only modern Rolex that I now own
  12. This took less than an hour to do and turned out very well
  13. Is that an eta date wheel in your watch?
  14. Well, the short answer is that I am not sure. The insert snaps in bezel with a positive click and sits perfectly below the lip of the bezel without any sanding, grinding, moaning or groaning. It is very hard to make the insert in an MBW look this way and none look like this without a lot of sanding. So I guess that may make it worth $60 (especially if you are using a genuine insert). Other than that, the teeth on the Clark bezel are more rounded (almost like a bezel with a some wear on it) and the bevel on the bottom of the bezel is less pronounced. It looks nice. You really can't see that in the pic because I modded the MBW bezel to look worn. The Clark bezel is also machined better, but mainly on the back where you can't see it. It snaps on very tight, almost too tight to turn at the moment, but I think that can be fixed with a little bit of adjustment. You do need to use the Clark tension ring to make it work, although visually the rings look to be the same size. Would I do it again? I will let you know once I find a gen insert The Clark bezel is on the right ...
